Chapter 25: Preparation Time
Gran worries about Guri's handling of the matter.
If it is ruled out that this is a play between the two of them, Guri should not be happy to hand him over to the dryad.
But even then he can use this to control Gran, either to make him owe him a favor, or to scare him by handing him over to the dryads.
And this practice... Quite effective for Gran.
He didn't want to owe Guri a favor, and he didn't want to be scared into handing it over to the dryads, even though he didn't think Guri was likely to do so.
But Gran, who is easy to think about a lot, just feels uncomfortable, after all, it's just unlikely, and the possibility still exists.
Gran waited until the dryad and the unicorn were gone, and then waited a long time before returning to the unicorn colony.
As soon as he returned to the settlement, Guri immediately came to him.
"You're done foraging?"
"yes, I'm done." Gran didn't say anything superfluous, whether it was the content of the food or anything else.
He immediately said, "Do you have time in the afternoon to go with me to the water source to investigate something?" β
"Afternoon?" Guri thought about it for a moment and said, "No problem. β
"Okay, then I'd like to go and rest for a while, see you in the afternoon."
Gran turned and wanted to leave, not to negotiate more with Guri.
"Wait." Guri stopped Gran.
[Are you coming?] Gran was a little nervous.
"Don't go to the outskirts of the forest lately, the old people have found traces of the dryads in the vicinity. If the old decay is not mistaken, they are mortal enemies of the dragon species, remember to watch out for danger. β
"I see, thanks for the reminder." Gran replied.
"It's okay, you go and rest."
Guri had no idea of going on.
Gran waited anxiously for Guri to tell him about the dryads, but Guri didn't mention that they had seen the dryads, telling him to be cautious.
He couldn't see through Guri's thoughts, and he felt awkward.
Gran didn't stay any longer, but turned and walked away as he had said, returning to the cave.
After checking again that there had been no hands and feet in the cave, Gran began to think.
[In general, the old donkey saved me this time, is it really necessary to continue to guard them?]
Of course, I don't know what is going on in its mind. Even if it feels a bit like revenge now, there is nothing it can do.
At most, it will be compensated by fulfilling the agreement well or even extending it.
The old donkey shows that what he cares about most is the agreement, and the content of the agreement is to protect his people. γ
Gran rested into the afternoon to adjust himself back to his best.
In the afternoon, Gran took the initiative to find Guri out of the settlement.
"You're going to the water source, so what you're going to do has something to do with goblins?" Guri asked Gran.
Gran confessed, "That's true, anyway, you're all going to tell the goblins to do something." β
"We will only accept their help, and we will not actively seek their help. Basically, they just send us some information. β
Guri replied.
Gran was disappointed and said, "Huh? I thought you knew more about the elven language, but you really didn't know what special abilities they had? β
Guri thought for a moment and said, "Yes, they can slightly manipulate the matter around them. β
"Slightlyβ" Gran felt that it sounded like a sense of powerlessness, and he wondered if it was useful.
"Anyway, let's go to the water source first."
It took them some time to come back to the spring that was the source of the stream.
Gran looked at the clear spring water and said to Guri, "Guri, can you please help me ask the goblins what they can do?" β
Guri immediately communicated with the goblins, and when he was done, he looked away and whispered, "The little ones themselves don't know. β
"Hahaha." Gran didn't know if she was being amused or feeling helpless.
[Find out for yourself, is it really necessary for me to communicate with this unreliable race?] γ
Gran stared at the spring, remembering the tall grass growing upstream of the stream, and the phantom water flower.
[It stands to reason that those plants are so special because of the influence of the stream, but the water source is nothing special except for the elves.] Could it be that that's what they do? γ
Gran thought again.
[It may also be that the spring itself is special, so it attracts goblins.]
But whether it's a special spring or a fairy, the water source itself is a strange thing I thought.
Unfortunately, for the sake of this forest and for myself, I can't destroy the water source, let alone trace it further afield. γ
"Let's go, Guri, go back and do something else."
He didn't feel the need to stay any longer, this time he had come to decide whether or not to extract the talent 'Elemental Perception Enhancement', and now it was time to make a decision.
Gran decides to draw this talent, but only uses 200 evolution points, and even if he doesn't draw it at 200, he won't touch the talent pool.
...
The first thing Glenn did when he returned to the settlement was to force himself to starve.
He then consumes unicorn smash horns when he is hungry, and the results are similar to what he expected.
The energy in the unicorn shattered horn could temporarily relieve his hunger, but it couldn't really fill his stomach.
So Glenn decided to use the unicorn crushing horn as an evolutionary solution to hunger.
Then he went to Guri again and preached to him: "Guri, in a few days I will find stones and dirt to plug up the cave." By then, I hope you can help keep everything out of the way to the cave. β
Guri was silent for a while, and then spoke slowly, "Do you have to do this?" β
"Yes, that's my biggest request."
"Well, according to the agreement, our clan will do whatever it takes to fulfill your request."
Guri spoke with such firmness that Gran could hear his determination.
"Thank you for your assistance."
Gran's request was also telling Guri one thing - he must not be disturbed at this time.
This is equivalent to exposing the weakness directly to the unicorns, and Gran has been hesitant for a long time to make a request to the unicorns.
But he must choose, either believe in unicorns or delay evolution.
The dryads were the catalyst for his decision.
The dryads are currently on the outskirts of the forest, but they may later enter the center of the forest.
The dryads say they won't offend the unicorns, but who can guarantee that?
Gran thinks that instead of passively waiting for their actions and waiting for the Year of the Monkey to evolve, it is better to evolve on his own.
He doesn't have the capital to stand still, he has to become strong quickly.
So in the end, Gran decided to trust Guri and believe that they would not betray him.
After that, he focused on collecting stones.
It took Gran a day to seal half of the hole with dirt and stones.
The mud and stone walls were too fragile to stop a young unicorn, let alone a dryad.
Gran's expectation of the Mudstone Wall was that it would hold out until the end of its evolution.
As for the rest, he had to hand it over to Guri, whom he trusted.
[Please prove that I am not wrong, please, the old donkey and his people.] γ
Glenn took one last look at the unicorn colony and crawled to the deepest part of the cavern without looking back.
Turn on the system and make the final preparations.
