If the top brass of the Vietnamese army were smarter, they should have seen clearly the fact that they could not maintain the same or similar level of strength as the Chinese in terms of troops, which is undoubtedly attacking the other with their own shortcomings, and it is they themselves who will be dragged down in the end.

However, the Vietnamese military leadership does not have such wisdom at present, so it is still trying its best to maintain a considerable number of military strength along the border to compete with China...... So who's afraid of whom?

Second, as the Soviet Union became more and more mired in Afghanistan, the situation of Vietnam and the Soviet Union attacking China from the north and south was virtually no longer existing.

At this time, the Soviet Union itself was already in a state of exhaustion in Afghanistan. The predicament in Afghanistan not only cost the Soviet Union huge financial and material resources, but more importantly, it also undermined the confidence of the Soviet Union in a large way...... Originally, they thought that they would be able to control Afghanistan in a few months or even less, but the truth is that they have not done so in a few years, and it is becoming more and more difficult to control.

So the Soviets naturally thought that if Afghanistan is so tricky, then China has a stronger national strength, a larger territory, a larger population, and a lot of experience in guerrilla warfare...... So what could it be?

Thinking about it this way, coupled with the fact that it is impossible for Afghanistan and China to fight on two fronts, the idea of attacking China has been denied a long time ago.

In this way, if the top brass of the Vietnamese army is smart enough. If you can see this shape clearly, it is easy to analyze that there will be no mission result if you continue to fight like this...... Before, they may have had the slightest chance of bringing China down because they were leaning on the big tree of the Soviet Union. But now it's just wishful thinking, and it's good that China doesn't beat you all over the ground looking for teeth.

So why is Vietnam still fighting life and death with China on the border? It may still have meaning for the Vietnamese soldiers and civilians, that is, revenge, but on a strategic level, it is a completely meaningless war.

Of course, this war is meaningless for the Vietnamese army, but it is of great significance to our army.

We will use this war to train our troops, provide impetus for military reform, promote the development of the armed forces toward modernization, and enhance national cohesion......

Sometimes I think that if I were the leader of Vietnam, what I would do would be to think about how to de-escalate the conflict and reach an armistice agreement with China, instead of wasting manpower and money on meaningless things like I am doing now.

But this is not realistic, as Vietnam's leaders as a small country will hardly have such wisdom and awareness, which will only happen a few years later when both the Soviet Union and Vietnam are on the verge of collapse.

Day after day, the work is indeed quite boring and unchallenging. But it is precisely in this way that we can take advantage of this to ruthlessly rectify the slackness among the veterans of the army.

It should be said that after the ideological work was completed, the atmosphere of the entire army has been greatly improved, but after a long period of time, it is inevitable that a few members of the formation will desert with the mentality of luck......

But that's the front-line fighters, not our synthetic battalion.

The reason is that we are not dealing with ordinary Vietnamese soldiers, but very likely Vietnamese agents who are lurking in the shadows and secretly observing us. Our task is also not an ordinary combat mission, but the protection of artillery sighting radars.

This meant that we couldn't afford to make the slightest mistake, so from the very beginning I strictly ordered that we should not smoke at any time.

It's not hard to guess what the result was, after the two fighters' disciplinary violations were discovered, I kicked them out of the synthetic camp without saying a word.
