In February 1948, the Supreme Command of the Soviet Army concentrated all the troops that the Soviet Union could send at this time, and even most of the Soviet troops stationed in Finland were transferred south, forming a huge force with a total strength of 1.13 million people, and unexpectedly launched a full-scale offensive on the Eastern Front in the bitter cold of more than minus 20 degrees. The operation began relatively smoothly, but due to the lack of German troops, the defensive position, and the somewhat ill-prepared Soviet choice of this season for a large-scale attack, the Soviets "recovered" the three Baltic states with relative ease, while the troops on the central and southern fronts also recovered most of Western Belarus and Western Ukraine, respectively.
However, in this process, the strength of the Soviet army was inevitably gradually dispersed, which provided the German army with the opportunity to divide and encircle and annihilate each other, and the mustache decisively transferred almost all the 500,000 German troops in the Balkans to the north, so that the available strength of the German army in the north was greatly increased. As a result, the Soviet Union lost more than 600,000 men in a little more than a month, and the rest fled back in disarray, and this defeat undoubtedly dealt a heavy blow to Stalin, who was eager to win the war
However, this Soviet offensive had a positive impact on the entire European war situation, and due to the almost complete northward transfer of the Balkan German army, Tito's guerrillas, which had been in great difficulty, were immediately relieved to deal with the servant army and the puppet army. They really don't have anything to fear. Coupled with the increasing dissatisfaction of the Balkan peoples with the exploitation and enslavement of the fascists, more and more people and even the army defected to Tito, so that Tito's guerrillas quickly grew to a million people, and in April 1948, they successfully recovered Sarajevo, the capital of Yugoslavia, and declared the liberation of the entire territory of Yugoslavia, and in the following month, Tito's guerrillas successively liberated the entire territory of Albania, Greece and Bulgaria, and began to obtain a steady stream of weapons supply from the Soviet Union from the Black Sea. As a result, a powerful field army with a total strength of more than 800,000 and well-equipped was quickly formed.
On this basis, Tito proclaimed the establishment of the Federation of Balkan Socialist Republics in May 1948. The territory included the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece and Bulgaria. Although Stalin was extremely dissatisfied with this, the Soviet Union was now in dire need of Tito's troops to share the pressure of the German army, so he had to put on a smile and openly express his support for the establishment of the Balkan Federation. He even promised in a secret discussion with Tito that only the Balkan Confederation could liberate Romania alone. Then the CPSU would agree to the annexation of Romania as a union republic into the Balkan Confederation
And the Germans achieved another brilliant victory in the north. But it also cost a permanent attrition of more than 200,000 men, and a lot of supplies and time to return to the Balkans when they headed south. Tito's Balkan Federation was already stronger than they imagined, and in the face of the German army's southward advance, Tito not only did not fear, but bravely took the initiative to wave his army north and invade Romania, and launched a fierce battle with the German army.
Although in the end, the Germans relied on superior tactical literacy and stronger firepower to defeat Tito's troops and successively eliminated more than 400,000 enemy troops, but the Germans also paid a huge price of more than 500,000 casualties. What made the Germans vomit even more blood was that relying on the ultra-high mobilization efficiency (the mobilization system of the Balkan Federation was very close to that of the Soviet Union) and the large population of the entire Balkan Peninsula, Tito only took less than a month to completely make up for the huge losses before.
In addition, although the attack on Romania was unsuccessful, Tito's Balkan Party organization further strengthened its penetration into the Romanian countryside, and as a result, although the German army won, it was confined to those large and medium-sized cities and narrow strips of land near the lines of communication, and the logistical supply was very difficult, and it was difficult to resist the continuous attack of Tito's army. In order to get out of this predicament, the German government must send at least 400,000 more German troops into Romania to strengthen "law and order", but the German army, which was already overstretched, could not draw so many troops.
The total number of dead, missing, captured and seriously disabled people in Germany since entering the war has exceeded 4 million, but it still maintains a huge regular army of more than 5 million, which has reached its limit, because Germany even 15-18 years old teenagers and women are conscripted into the army in large numbers, if it goes further, then Germany's future is completely over, not to mention that the troops composed of women and children cannot have much combat effectiveness at all, and letting them go to the battlefield is no different from giving away heads.
Just as the mustache was growing, the Allies launched a large-scale offensive on the Western Front, and they forcibly took the Spanish overseas territory of Las Palmas Islands, which was garrisoned by German troops, at the cost of sinking dozens of ships, shooting down thousands of planes, and killing or missing more than 180,000 people. Because of the proximity of the Las Palmas Islands to the southern tip of Morocco's coast, the occupation of the islands would allow the Allies to land at the southern tip of Morocco with unprecedented air support, and no matter how good Kerim and Rommel's military skills were, it would be difficult for the Allies to increase the size of the landing force to a point where they were completely unable to confront them.
It must be noted that after more than half a year of diplomatic efforts, Kerim still refused to accept the conditions put forward by the allies, which made both Roosevelt and Churchill lose confidence in resolving the UAE through diplomatic means alone
Eisenhower waited until the number of landing troops exceeded one million before allowing them to advance northward in a step-by-step manner, and refused to stay far from the coastline in case the supply lines were threatened, which caused great trouble for Rommel, who was good at mobile warfare, but Klim still dealt a heavy blow to the Allies at several strategic points that they had to pass.
By the time the Allies had advanced to the outskirts of Casablanca, their casualties had exceeded 700,000, but the Arab Commonwealth had paid an even greater price due to the enemy's superior firepower, and the Moroccan people, who had been caught up in the war again and again, had suffered greatly, with the population of the province having fallen by more than 22 percent compared to when the Krim had raised its army, and nearly half of the young men had died, so that Morocco was now full of widows (to be continued......
