Chapter 122: Supply Warfare

Our supply battle with the Soviets soon came to a fever pitch......

In fact, this white-hot situation is also a stalemate, because this supply battle can be said to be mutual...... The Soviets had their own supply lines, as did the Shigio Valley...... As a result, the methods used by both sides against each other on the battlefield can quickly be transferred to the other.

For example, our cold gun cold gun movement...... The Soviets felt that this tactic was good, and soon used it on the supply lines of our army in the Shigio Valley on the southern front, and it was very difficult for the Soviets to have aerial reconnaissance and a large number of long-range artillery as auxiliaries...... These are very effective in blocking the supply lines of our army...... After all, our army's supply line is only a small mountain road, and it is not difficult to block a certain mountain road at a timely time with dozens of long-range artillery pieces with the cooperation of aerial reconnaissance or sniper reconnaissance.

However, as the so-called ruler is short, the inch is long...... The Soviets have more equipment and can block our mountain roads more accurately, but there are many mountain roads for our army...... It is impossible for the Soviet army to block all these mountain roads, not to mention that mountain roads are mountain roads...... Sometimes there is not only one place to walk on the mountain road, and if a section of the road is blocked, it is enough to take a little more time to lead the mule and quietly go around this section...... Coupled with Chen Qiaoqiao's very powerful blow to the Soviet snipers, the Soviet army could not block the mountain road of our army!

In fact...... This is also the reason why the Soviet army has deployed tens of thousands of elite troops on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in history, laying mines and building fortifications, and wants to block the transportation of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, but it has never been able to do it!

On the contrary, the supply lines of the Soviet army were not so convenient...... The reason is that the Soviet army's means of transport is automobiles, and the volume of transportation of automobiles is large, but it is always limited by roads...... And there's only one highway. This brought us closer to the Soviet army in terms of equipment......

Of course. The measures taken by the Soviet army were also very effective...... In fact, I believe that these measures were all suggestions given by the Vietnamese advisory group. The Soviet troops, who were not good at guerrilla warfare, were afraid to think and did not dare to use such tactics.

Just like last time...... Use snipers to lurk on high ground in advance, so as to know the lurking position of our snipers...... The Soviet army will only think simply, it is good to kill it directly when it sees it, and what position do you hold! However, this is not the case with the Vietnamese, who are good at patience, which the Soviet army does not have in a straightforward style of combat!

However, this tactic of Vietnam could not effectively curb our army's cold-gun and cold-gun movement...... The reason why this tactic was successful before was because our army was defenseless, and it was easy to crack it after being prepared!

On the one hand, reconnaissance is uninterrupted...... The reason why this tactic of the Vietnamese was able to succeed. That's all because the snipers were put in place before us! What if ...... What about our non-stop reconnaissance in the target area? At that time, the Soviets could not escape our eyes if they wanted to deploy snipers.

It is not difficult to do this...... The mountains of Afghanistan are full of caves or crevices where you can hide from people, as long as you send a few people to bring enough food to set up an observation post on a certain high point...... Observe with a high-powered telescope or lurk on the target high ground from a distance...... Watch for Soviet helicopters taking off and landing nearby or armour-piercing vehicles sneaking into the area...... The Soviet army usually deployed snipers using helicopters or armored vehicles to deliver them.

So we can grasp the situation first, so as to effectively avoid the Soviet snipers, and sometimes even after mastering the hiding points of the Soviet snipers...... will also sneak up and touch the Soviet snipers!

Of course, I don't emphasize this...... Because this does not help our strategic objectives, our purpose is to hit the Soviet supply lines, not to compete with the Soviet snipers!

But that's not how the Afghan guerrillas think...... The reason is that many of their comrades-in-arms were sacrificed under the guns of Soviet snipers, so they hate Soviet snipers to the core, and sometimes they touch these snipers despite my orders and even with the tacit consent of the grassroots commanders!

I can only express my helplessness about this...... This is a common denominator on the battlefield, with both sides hating each other's snipers. Just like we did on the battlefield in Vietnam...... If you have the opportunity, you have to put the other party to death! I also have a deep understanding of this, and touching off the snipers of the Soviet army can also hit the morale of the Soviet army to a certain extent. So I turned a blind eye and let them do it!

On the other hand, it is to enhance the random selection of the location of the cold gun and cold gun movement......

It is important to know that the Salang Highway is several hundred kilometers long...... With so many heights along such a long road, I am afraid that all the snipers of the entire Soviet Union will move to Afghanistan to defend it...... This is one of the tenets of war, a long line of defense means that the troops are scattered, and fortification everywhere is equal to no defense everywhere!

So the Soviets simply could not arrange sniper fortifications along the entire Salang road...... What we have to do is to transport cold guns and cold guns to further places, and there is no pattern to follow...... At this time, the Soviet army had no choice, or it could be said that the Vietnamese advisory group had no choice but to concentrate the supply convoy and then use a strong force to escort it......

And the method of guarding also surprised me...... Hundreds of elite infantry were intercepted by helicopters, escorted by helicopter gunships, to seize the high ground along the road and carry out the necessary reconnaissance...... After the reconnaissance of this hill, the infantry was retracted by helicopter and continued to be sent forward in echelons!

After hearing Company Commander Luo report to me about this method of escort of the Soviet army...... I couldn't help but curse in my heart: Mother! Isn't that what I used to launch a blitzkrieg on the battlefield in Vietnam? The difference is only that at the beginning I used motorized infantry to reconnoiter and occupy in echelons, while the Soviet army used helicopters......

So don't think about it, this must be another idea from the devil!

It works...... Because these infantry are infantry with combat experience or sniper experience, plus the cooperation of helicopters......

This is how the helicopters and infantry of the Soviet army cooperated...... The infantry suspected that guerrilla snipers were lurking in an area, so they passed instructions and directions to helicopters, which soon flew over the area to conduct detailed reconnaissance, and sometimes even fired a volley of bullets or dropped several bombs to wash the area.

Therefore, no matter which high ground our snipers are lurking, it is possible that the Soviets will be detected first...... Once the sniper is cleared, then the cold artillery unit will also lose its eyes, so it will no longer be able to function!

And we can almost say that we cannot cope with this reconnaissance tactics of the Soviet army...... The reason is that we lack effective anti-aircraft equipment in our hands, especially snipers with sniper rifles lurking on the front line, and it can be said that there is nothing to do with the armor penetration of helicopters that cannot be penetrated by heavy machine guns.

But here's the problem...... In fact, we don't need to do anything at all, because of this tactic of the Soviet army...... The supply troops must be gathered together, otherwise the reconnaissance troops will just walk away after reconnoitring a hill...... Our snipers are deployed from the second line to the first line again!

And this tactic doesn't work at night...... The reconnaissance range of the reconnaissance unit and the helicopter at night will be greatly shortened, and it will not be possible to complete the reconnaissance mission before the supply convoy passes, so the night still belongs to our world!

Other words...... Although this tactic is practical, it has actually limited the capacity of the Soviet supply forces to a large extent, so to some extent...... That is to say, the success of our cold gun and cold artillery campaign is only because the Soviet army is equipped with advanced equipment and properly used tactics, so we have found a balance between the enemy and us.

As a result, the supplies on both sides were carried out with difficulty under the harassment of the other party...... In fact, it is also a war, or it can be said to be a kind of preparation...... Whoever can store as many supplies as possible in this difficult situation will have an advantage in future wars and ultimately affect the outcome of the war!

But I want to ...... In this regard, it has gradually developed in a direction favorable to our army......

Although the Soviet army had a strong transport capacity...... There are not only road supplies, but also air transport...... We are not capable of harassing air transport. But the Soviet army was huge and populous...... They had to consider not only the supply of Soviet troops, but also the supply of 100,000 Afghan government troops, in this regard...... The Afghan government army is still a dragger!

Moreover, the Soviet army had to face far more partisans than ours......

On the other hand, we only need to focus on the Xijieo Valley, where there are many refugees supporting the supply line...... Most of these refugees are from refugee camps in Pakistan, and some of them are themselves people from the Higio Valley, and naturally they risk their lives to send supplies into the valley to help us defend their homeland, and most of them have nothing to do with the Higio Valley...... The reason why they are willing to send supplies to the Shigio Valley is simply because we are providing food and protection to the refugee camps in Pakistan free of charge......

There is a saying that "if you are poor, you will be good to yourself, and if you are good, you will take care of the world...... Refugees in the camps will not be able to help us if they are not able to solve their own problems of food, clothing and security. But now we've helped them solve these problems...... If they want to do something at this time, they will naturally want to repay the benefactor who helped them!

That's why we always have a slight advantage in supply battles with the Soviets...... However, this advantage was soon lost due to the arrival of cold air and heavy snowfall...... (To be continued......)
