Chapter 42: The Battle
This muffled sound was like a firecracker exploding in a hole, followed by a large pile of smoke and dust rushing out of the mouth of the tunnel, which soon spread around the mouth of the tunnel to add a thick veil to the already dark night with poor visibility.
"Hit!" As soon as I gave the order, the weapons in the hands of the warriors were fired.
I can choose not to play...... Because our strategic goal has been reached, the tunnel has been blown up...... Although there was an accident when blowing up the tunnel, only three of the six explosives trucks that were supposed to go in went in...... But because the three vehicles were mixed in with the ammunition trucks, the intensity of the explosion and the damage to the tunnel actually exceeded our expectations.
So...... According to my past habits and combat experience, that is, once the strategic goal is achieved, it becomes unimportant to kill and injure the enemy, because while killing and injuring the enemy, our own side will also suffer losses, so there is no point in using human lives to fight for human lives...... Most of those who serve as soldiers do so out of necessity.
But that was before, and this is Afghanistan...... The last time I marched and fought, I was told that the way back would be much easier than the way I came, weishenme? Because part of the ammunition has been depleted...... Don't underestimate this part of the ammunition consumed, it is likely that we can easily escape the pursuit of the Soviets because of the light march. In addition, at this time, the Soviet army was panicked by the explosion of the tunnel, and there was smoke and dust constantly pouring out of the tunnel to form a very haode smoke bomb...... Therefore, it is obvious that the advantages of fighting this battle outweigh the disadvantages for our army!
So now it's lively...... The first to be fired were a few "blowpipe" anti-aircraft missiles...... This thing was originally intended for air defense, but it can be used in tanks just as well, and even this missile can be said to be of little use for air defense...... Manual guidance. Use it to hit airplanes flying in the sky, and the accuracy is so low that it can make people vomit blood. But against tanks it's different. Especially stationary tanks......
After only a few "booms", the mouth of the tunnel was blown into flames, which made the Soviet troops scream in panic, and they didn't even know where the enemy was, so they beat all kinds of weapons in their hands "boom......
From this aspect it can also be seen that the quality of Soviet soldiers was not as high as it seemed...... But it's no wonder that there has been no war for decades, and even if there is a war, it is only a regular war and no guerrilla warfare, plus at this time the military service of the Soviet Union is two years...... In other words, all these Soviet soldiers in front of us are soldiers who have no combat experience and have been soldiers for less than two years...... You can retire in two years, who will stay here to fight!
Just like it is now. They shoot indiscriminately with their weapons like that...... Far from posing any threat to us, it allowed us to find our target in the darkness and smoke, especially with snipers in our troops......
So with the "bang, bang, bang......" burst of gunfire, the snipers almost did not pause to shoot out bullets one after another, knocking down those targets in the smoke one by one.
Of course, the snipers knocked out the searchlights...... Soon there was darkness all around, and that's when we began to retreat...... The strategic goal was achieved, and it also reduced the weight of the equipment of our army, and also caused considerable confusion for the Soviet troops, which simply could not pursue us...... So there's no need to dwell on them anymore.
This time the withdrawal is the same as last time...... The two hundred men were divided into small groups and scattered in the mountains to and from the predetermined assembly point, and I was somewhat surprised...... The retreat went a little unexpectedly. There were neither enemies nor helicopters to chase them, and all the suffering was almost a confrontation with difficult mountain roads and hot and cold weather...... Even we sometimes have the courage to march during the day......
Let's be honest, though. During the day, it is really not suitable for marching, and the heat is really unbearable...... To be precise, it should not be suitable for us Chinese march, because when it is hot, we will sweat, when we sweat, we will feel thirsty, and when we feel thirsty, we must drink a lot of water...... In this case, no amount of water is enough for us to drink, and it almost evaporates immediately after drinking it in the stomach, and then it evaporates again......
But Afghans are different, perhaps because they have lived in this environment for a long time and have gradually adapted to this climate...... They don't sweat as much as we do, and they are more thirsty than we are...... So a daytime march is nothing to them.
Just as American mules cannot adapt to the climate and terrain of Afghanistan...... Man is also an animal and also takes time to adapt to different terrain and climates. It's just that this time can be long and short, and sometimes it even takes generations to get used to...... If you can't adapt, there will be only one result, like the American mule, you will be brutally eliminated.
At first, I was still wondering about this phenomenon...... Our troops have blown up the Salang Tunnel, and that road is almost 50 percent of the Soviet army's capacity, so won't the Soviet side be furious? Since the storm is like thunder...... Then why don't they go after us "culprits"?
I found out the reason the next night......
"Battalion commander!" When I arrived at the contact point with the base the next night, the correspondent handed me a telegram and said: "This is news from the base, the Soviet troops in the direction of Hakus have withdrawn before dark, and at the same time the Soviet Airborne Forces have been withdrawn, and Hakus has been saved!" ”
"Good!" Hearing this, the soldiers soon burst into cheers.
So I found out why the Soviets didn't hunt us down...... Almost half of the capacity was lost, and the route was still straight from the Soviet Union to Kabul and then to Kandahar, the second largest city...... This made it necessary for the Soviet army to be cautious. Otherwise...... On the one hand, there is a significant reduction in transportation capacity and a shortage of ammunition, and on the other hand, there is still a war with the guerrillas on the front line...... In a few days, I'm afraid that the ammunition will run out.
It's not hard to imagine what such an outcome would be...... At that time, the Soviets will not be able to fire their artillery, their planes will not be able to fly into the sky, and their tanks will not be able to move...... Even the Afghan guerrillas, armed with guns and artillery, could besiege their 100,000-strong army in Afghanistan.
As a result, the Soviets had to cease all military operations and use their limited ammunition to maintain the existing transportation lines and open the Salang tunnel...... Otherwise, in the near future, the Soviet army and the Afghan government army will have problems even eating.
So in this case, will the Soviets still have the courage to come after us again? I don't think the Soviets will be so stupid! (To be continued......)
