It's on the shelves again, and as usual, we still have to talk about something. Although it is a repetitive thing to put on the shelf, but every time the work is different, there are always many differences in the feelings when it is put on the shelf.
I have been writing books for more than 13 years, and most of them are game novels.
"Alone in the World", which began in 2005; "Online Game: Melee Mage" started in 2008; "Full Time Master" started in 2011; and then to "The Hour of Kings", which began in April this year. In the process, I also wrote two short stories, one is the magazine serialized "Online Game Jianghu Mission", and the other has not been published publicly, so I keep a low profile, I keep it secret, I won't say it.
Aside from the two short stories, the four novels all have a time gap of at least three years or more. I looked back at it for myself, thought about it, and found that most of these works were products that were in line with my state of mind at the time.
In 2005, I started writing "Alone in the World", I had not graduated from college and had no formal thinking about life. Playing games in Internet cafes was my main pastime in college. So what the game has in my eyes is entertainment, so the protagonist in that work has no ideals, no purpose, no baggage, and even no real life, just experience fun in the game, that's all.
In 2008, I wrote "Online Game: Melee Mage", and it has been three years since I graduated and entered the society, I have felt the pressure of survival, and I began to care about what I should live on. Gaming is still a pastime, but when it comes to entertainment, you can't help but ask yourself what is the use of playing games? Once again, this thought is reflected in the protagonist of the book. Gu Fei thought about "what can kung fu be used for", and in the end, kung fu can become a bug-like existence in the game. So it's naïve to give the game a function other than entertainment in this book. And it was in the process of writing this book that I began to think seriously about writing from the pure entertainment state of playing games before.
Then in 2011, I wrote "Full-time Master", I was 28 years old, and there were still two years before the so-called thirty, and I felt that I needed to have a clear direction and plan for the future, so there was Ye Xiu, a professional e-sports player, and the game was his way out, ideals, talents, and achievements, and that was probably what I needed at that time, and again, the protagonist of the novel was realized through the game.
And then now, writing Hour of Kings, I didn't have any idea of writing a game novel anymore because I couldn't find anything else I wanted to write. The confusion, confusion, and uncertainty of my youth are all in the past. Gaming is back as a pastime, and the way of entertainment is very different from when I was 18: I'm no longer interested in watching any in-game story, CG and animations are canceled or skipped, I'm disgusted with quests or dungeons that take a certain amount of time to complete, I don't have the patience to deal with in-game players anymore, and my favorite game feature is idle ......
It was at this time that a little friend around me began to grow up day by day.
When I play Glory of Kings, she will look curiously on the side and ask who is this, who is it, and which are you? Is this a boy or a girl? Why are you a little girl? I don't think this one looks as good as last time. How did you die? Why are you dead again?
From this point on, I couldn't help but wonder what the game was for me, and I had mastered it myself. But when this little friend grows up, when she starts to get into games, what will she think of games? How will she get along with the game? Does the game have more functions and meanings than just entertainment when she grows up?
Later, when I attended a book launch of my good friend Lin Hai Tingtao, I was inspired to hear him talk about the educational properties of football. Because the educational attributes he is talking about cannot be said to be given by football, but by fair sports competition. As long as you have this attribute, you will actually have what he calls educational.
So I thought about games from a perspective that I hadn't seen before. When I haven't confirmed whether this needs to be a work, thank you Tencent for providing me with the game Honor of Kings as a blueprint, and the real game is very conducive to the expression of my thoughts this time, so there is "The Moment of Kings".
This book will be more realistic than the previous game novels, not just because the game used in the novel is a real game, but because this one is more personal to what I focus on and want to tell.
Looking closely at a game is like a microcosm of life.
You were born in the spring, you began to grow up, you began to face competition, everyone competed for limited resources, some people took the lead and became stronger and stronger, and some people frequently lost hands and were gradually thrown away by others. How to stand tall in good times? How to catch up in the face of adversity? When you win this game, how much is on your own? How many of your partners have made you? When the next challenge comes, how many lessons have you learned from your previous challenge?
All kinds of life seem to be reflected in this small game. Does it matter how you win or lose each game? Important, because that's what you're trying to do in this round; But what is also more important is how to face the next game after winning or losing this game.
Some people may say that a game is not so exaggerated. But this game, or any bit of life, is determined by everyone's personality and emotions.
That's the direction I found for this book, and that's what I want to write about in this book: What can games bring us? What can we experience in the game?
Feng Xiaoxiao is a simple gamer.
Gu Fei used the game as a stage to show his strength. (It's really a big show, purely literal)
Ye Xiu takes the game as an ideal and goal.
What will He Yu and his friends think of the game this time? And what will the game bring them?
I hope they and many of them who love games can find the answers.
Finally, I feel that readers have been supporting and liking for a long time, and I don't know how many people have read it from the first book, and this is the sixth time it has been on the shelves!
Thank you.
