182 Ways to solve the problem of the Czech Legion (Part I)

Thomas. Masaryk, who was not ordinarily important in the history of Czechoslovakia, was the head of the three founding fathers of Czechoslovakia, and was revered as the father of Czechoslovakia, who made a significant contribution to Czechoslovakia's independence from Austria-Hungary.

From the point of view of the people of Czechoslovakia, this man was a national hero. But from Li Xiaofeng's point of view, Masaryk is not so cute. His efforts to win national independence and self-determination are undoubtedly commendable, but the means he uses in this are extremely harmful to the interests of the Russian people.

As chairman of the Czechoslovak National Council, in May 1917 he arrived in Petrograd from Paris, where he was unanimously welcomed by the Czech Legion, and in July he submitted a request to the Russian Provisional Government for the Czech Legion to leave Russia for France. It should be said that there is no problem with this paragraph of the initiative, and it can be regarded as far-sighted.

Because it was obvious to him that the situation in Russia was about to change dramatically, and that it was very likely that the Russians would withdraw from this world war. And once the Russians withdrew from the war, then the fate of the Czech regiments that remained on the territory of Russia to participate in the war is very difficult to say. So the wisest way is to jump out of the mud pit of Russia.

Unfortunately, for various reasons, Masaryk's ideas were not realized, and by the outbreak of the October Revolution, the Czech Legion remained in Russia. And this is an important inflection point!

In January 1918, when the Russian negotiations with Germany were going on and at their most noisy. On the question of the stay of the Czech Legion. The Bolsheviks had contact with Masaryk. For Lenin. The right to national self-determination was an important revolutionary idea of his heart, so he understood the wishes of the Czechoslovakians and was willing to let the Czech Legion leave Russia smoothly.

However, it is clear that Masaryk did not take this seriously at the time, and before the negotiations with the Bolsheviks on the way for the Czech Legion to leave Russia were over, he hurriedly went to Vladivostok under a pseudonym, and then went to the United States via Japan.

Why did Masaryk go in such a hurry? Why did you leave Russia in a hurry before the negotiations were over? There is only one answer. The Czechoslovak National Council, headed by him, had already smelled something else, and they had sensed the hostility of Britain, France, and the United States towards Soviet Russia. And this hostile attitude was an opportunity for Czechoslovakia!

Why do you say that? The reason is very simple, as an oppressed nation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Czechoslovakia must look at the faces of Britain, France and the United States if it wants to be independent, especially when the United States enters the war and the defeat of the Allied bloc is already apparent. Czechoslovakia had to prove its worth if it wanted to gain a corresponding political status after the war.

The Russian Revolution was the best opportunity to prove the political value of Czechoslovakia, which Masaryk believed catered to the needs of Britain, France, and the United States. The use of the Czech Legion as a pawn against the Bolsheviks would bring enough political benefits to the future nascent Czechoslovakia!

This is also evidenced by history. After the Czechoslovak National Council and Soviet Russia reached an agreement in Penza that the Czech Legion would cross Siberia as civilians and then go to France via Panama to fight in the war. Masaryk and Benes, the Founding Trio of Czechoslovakia, secretly made a political deal with Britain and France, agreeing to an anti-Soviet coup d'Γ©tat by the Czech Legion as they crossed Siberia.

Historically, on May 14, Benes, who later succeeded Masaryk as the second president of Czechoslovakia, signed an agreement with the British government, declaring that "the operations of the Czech Legion in Siberia were part of the Entente's intervention in Soviet Russia and an extension of their obligation to fight on the Western Front." "In return, the British government promised that after the defeat of the German-Austrian bloc, the Czechoslovak Republic would have a say at the peace conference on the settlement of the Russian question.

Look at how interesting things are, the political elites who have been campaigning for the independence of Czechoslovakia do not hesitate to achieve their goals at the expense of the interests of the people of other countries, which is a natural difference from their previous crying and shouting of grievances, and if there is one word to describe these grandsons, it is undisciplined.

What does Russia's problem concern Czechoslovakia? Did Russia have a historical hatred for Czechoslovakia? In any case, Li Xiaofeng despised the Czechoslovak political elite headed by Masaryk and Benes.

Of course, it is not a means of despising them, after all, according to Lenin's point of view, the purpose of these goods can still be regarded as noble, for the independence and freedom of the nation, how many people with lofty ideals can give up their lives, what is shameless?

What Li Xiaofeng really despises these people is that they completely pin their hopes for national independence and freedom on a group of robbers, and use the later generation's evaluation of Sun Guofu's early revolution that they used warlords to fight warlords, and the most embarrassing result was that the fruits of the revolution were stolen by warlords.

This is illustrated by the experience of Czechoslovakia, who used the three great British, French, and American robbers to defeat the Austro-Hungarian bandits who had been in their hands in their early years. However, when the new Nazi German robbers grew stronger and began to threaten the interests of the British and French bandits, poor Czechoslovakia was given to the new robbers as a gift by the British and French, and those who did not resist became slaves of the country.

To add that it was none of the Founding Fathers who did nothing, groveled to Nazi Germany, signed the Munich Agreement, and buried Czechoslovakia like a clown. Masaryk was a little lucky, and he hiccups before the incident. The traitorous treaty was signed by Benes, who had previously made a secret deal with the British.

Of course, this was not the last time Benes was "forced" to sign a "traitorous treaty", after the end of World War II, it was he who made the Soviet Union a guarantor of Czechoslovakia, and this elite once again tried to use a new robber against the old one.

The result? The whole world has seen that Czechoslovakia became a vassal of the Soviet Union, and the puppets supported by the Soviet Union controlled the country. Until the fall of the Soviet hooligans. Then Czechoslovakia split into two independent states. And then again took refuge under the banner of the British, French, American, NATO bloc, until now.

Li Xiaofeng despised these Czechs who liked to find their godfathers, and he was even more disgusted with the damage they had caused to Russia in order to achieve their political goals. To put it mildly, the Russian civil war would not have lasted three years without their sudden attack, and it was these troublemakers who caught the Bolsheviks off guard and made the situation out of control.

This is no joke. After the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks put down a series of rebellions launched by Karekin and the Socialist-Revolutionaries and took initial control of the situation in the country. If it went on step by step, the strength of the White Army would not expand so quickly.

It was the Czechoslovak Legion that suddenly launched a rebellion on May 25, 1918, and tens of thousands of troops occupied important cities along the Trans-Siberian Railway, completely separating the whole of Siberia, or the east and west of Russia, and giving the Social Revolutionaries, the Cadets and the old military officers a base for a comeback. Then, with the assistance of Britain, France, the United States, and Japan, he once achieved a great advantage on the battlefield, and almost wiped out the Bolsheviks and Soviets.

Therefore, on the issue of the Czech Legion, Li Xiaofeng advocated taking tough measures. At an enlarged meeting of the Central Committee on the Czech Legion in Petrograd, he said: "Although there is no clear evidence yet. The Czech Legion will act as a pawn for the British, French, American, and Japanese bloc to interfere in the internal affairs of our country. But judging by all the signs and omens, this possibility exists...... So I suggest that in the question of how to deal with the Czech Legion, we must reduce the threat to a minimum and not allow them to wreak havoc on the revolution in our country! ”

Lenin wanted to hear not such a generalized statement, but more to know whether there was conclusive evidence of such an attempt on the part of the Czech Legion.

"Evidence, I can't come up with it for the time being," Li Xiaofeng spread his hands, but he immediately said: "But there are many signs and signs, which must be vigilant!" According to the information I received, the head of the Czechoslovak National Council, Masaryk, had left Petrograd, had arrived in Japan not long ago, had already made contact with the French ambassador to Japan, and although it was not known what was being discussed, he soon boarded a passenger ship bound for the United States. ”

Speaking of this, he paused for a moment, looked at the faces of Lenin and the others, and then continued: "I think he may have completed his contacts with the governments of Britain, France, and Japan, and reached a secret agreement, and the reason why he immediately went to the United States is probably to prepare to reach the same agreement with the United States government!" ”

Trotsky suddenly interjected and asked: "Then what do you think they have come to an agreement?" ”

Li Xiaofeng took a breath and said, "I can only think that Masaryk is preparing to act as a pawn of the Entente bloc to interfere in our revolution. ”

"This is ridiculous!" Bukharin stood up, and he sneered and asked: "I think you are misleading the central government, I think the reason why Masaryk contacted the British, French, and Japanese governments is just to get the Czech legions out of our country as soon as possible...... This was because the Central Committee, despite the opposition, had agreed to the extortion of the Germans and withdrew from the war by betraying the country, which aroused the vigilance of the Czechoslovak National Council. Unlike some of our comrades who hold capitulationist views, the Czechoslovak National Council did not hesitate to fight to the end against the German-Austrian imperialist bloc in order to fight for national independence! ”

At the previous emergency meeting of the Central Committee, his ideas were ruthlessly rejected, and if nothing else, the Brest Treaty was adopted by the Central Committee and will enter into force on 1 March.

And now, there is really not much time left for him, and Bukharin must seize every time and opportunity to carry out his ideas, so at this specially convened enlarged meeting of the Central Committee, he will digress from the beginning and lead the topic to the treaty.

However, it is too difficult for him to wish, and bigwigs like Lenin and Trotsky are staring, how can he be allowed to come nonsense, and there is no need for both of them to make a move, even Li Xiaofeng can make Bukharin drink a pot.

"All I can say is that you take it for granted!" Li Xiaofeng sneered and asked, "If it's just to let the Czech Legion leave our country smoothly, will Masaryk secretly change his name and surname?" We have not restricted his freedom in life, and the Party's attitude has always been clear, respecting the right of all peoples to self-determination. Relations with the Czechoslovak National Council are also being actively pursued. Find a way to solve this problem. In this case. Not only did he not actively communicate with us, but he rushed all the way to Japan and the United States behind our backs, is this normal? ”

Speaking of this, Li Xiaofeng suddenly raised his voice and said loudly: "Masaryk's behavior can only tell us one kind of information, that he is ready to make a deal with the Entente behind our back." And this kind of bargaining is absolutely not good for our party and the revolution! ”

Li Xiaofeng's words were so loud that even Trotsky, who was not very good with him, frequently nodded in agreement. Bukharin's discomfort suddenly became even more uncomfortable. He did not accept such an outcome and continued to resist uselessly: "This is just your guess! ”

Li Xiaofeng nodded and replied very "generously", "Yes, it is indeed speculation, but this is speculation based on objective facts, and I think that in today's extremely complex revolutionary situation, it is very necessary for us to be vigilant, and we do not intend to harm the interests of the people of other countries." But we must also guard against some insidious enemies plotting against us! ”

Bukhalin suddenly sneered again: "Then you should tell me, how to raise your vigilance?" Just because of your whims. Shall we disarm the Czech Legion and put them in imprison? Ridiculous! ”

Li Xiaofeng shook his head and said, "I didn't say that, disarming the Czech Legion, let's not say that we can't do it for the time being, and even if we can do it, we can't do it so impatiently." Doing so will only provoke a backlash from the Czech Legion, and at the instigation of some conspirators, it will cause big problems! ”

These words caused Lenin and Trotsky to nod their heads frequently, and at first they also wondered whether Li Xiaofeng wanted to take strong measures to solve the problem. To tell the truth, they will not agree to do this, not to mention that someone has no solid evidence, and even if there is evidence, they cannot rush to attack the Czech Legion, which is not small in number (more than 50,000 people), and its combat effectiveness is still relatively strong, once it provokes them, the consequences are unpredictable.

So when someone made it clear that he was not going to take strong measures, at least not for the time being, Lenin and Trotsky thought that this was indeed the old man's words. And they also want to know what means someone wants to use to solve this problem.

"Tell me what you think!" Lenin encouraged.

"My opinion is that for the time being, focus on prevention!"

Li Xiaofeng had thought carefully about this issue before he came, and he did intend to take tough measures at first, but he soon gave up, because the mentor was likely not to agree, and with the current military strength of the Bolsheviks, it was really unpleasant to provoke the Czech Legion. So for the time being, I can only forbear, I can only accumulate strength first, and focus on prevention, anyway, they officially launched a mutiny, there are still two months, and there is still time to prepare.

"First of all, we should intensify our propaganda efforts to explain to the soldiers of the Czech Legion the reasons for our withdrawal from the war and to prevent them from being instigated by conspirators......"

Don't underestimate this, historically, Masaryk's important excuse for inciting the rebellion of the Czech Legion was: "Russia withdrew from the war and betrayed its allies, thus threatening the independence of Czechoslovakia...... In order to guarantee the independence of Czechoslovakia, the Bolsheviks had to be overthrown! ”

Lenin thought for a moment and said: "This is a good proposal, it is really necessary for us to explain our ideas to the Czech Legions, and we must make them understand the real reason for our country's withdrawal from this war...... " and turned to Trotsky, "You are the only one to do, Lev. Comrade Davidovich, I would like you to personally do the ideological work of the Czech Legion......"

It should be said that it was very fitting to entrust the work to Trotsky, not to mention the eloquence of the old To, who was able to convince the German prisoners of war to support him in the German prisoner of war camps in Canada, and it must have not been particularly difficult to convince the Czechs.

After the first suggestion was accepted, Li Xiaofeng's confidence became even stronger, and he continued with confidence: "Second, we must pay attention to the movements of the Czechoslovak National Council, and be wary of their contacts with the Entente bloc, even if we reach an agreement with them, we must not be careless, especially if they ask to return to Europe via Siberia and detour to Japan, they must be allowed to surrender their weapons before they are allowed to pass through Siberia!" ”

Trotsky was stunned and asked, "For what?" ”

Li Xiaofeng said very seriously: "In Siberia, or in the entire Eastern region, the influence of our party is still very weak. Moreover, it must be noted that because of the war, China's main military strength is all concentrated in the west, and the military strength in Siberia is very weak. More than 50,000 well-armed Czech regiments would have rebelled there, and the consequences would have been unimaginable! ”

Li Xiaofeng hadn't finished speaking, he said in a worried tone: "And it must be seen that in the East, the Entente bloc, especially Japan, is relatively strong, and if the Czech Legion launches a rebellion, it will be easy to get the assistance of the Entente bloc!" ”

There was a buzz in the conference room, and the members of the Central Committee kept talking to each other, and they really listened to Li Xiaofeng's warning, because this possibility was completely existent, and once the Czech Legion launched a rebellion, and there was the assistance of the Entente group behind it, it would be more than a chain reaction.

After a short silence, Stalin was the first to ask: "Then Comrade Andrei, how do you think this hidden danger should be solved?" (To be continued......)
