16 Engine Battles (M)

Li Xiaofeng was hesitating, considering whether to slowly introduce French engines. However, Tukhachevsky did not hesitate at all, and the political struggle of the past 10 years told him that he must not let go of any opportunity, and if he misses it, he will be punished by God. And now that the opportunity was in front of him, with Ordzhonikidze joining the fighting group, it was clear that there was a split within the Leninists, and Stalin and Li Xiaofeng, who could not be twisted into a rope, had no need to be afraid.

At least Tukhachevsky felt that if Trotsky could fully support him, it would not be too difficult to overthrow Stalin and Li Xiaofeng. Overnight, Tukhachevsky approached Trotsky, hoping that he would support him on the engine issue until he regained the initiative in the Military Commission.

But Trotsky's attitude at that time was very playful, why? Although he was disgraced and shameless in the Military Commission before, Lenin did not take this opportunity to directly defeat him, what does this mean?

Trotsky, who was highly sensitive to politics, soon realised that Lenin seemed to have a real intention of making him a transition, and that he would probably be appointed to succeed him after Lenin's retirement in 1935. Otherwise, if Lenin really wanted Stalin and Sverdlov to succeed him, he should have been killed this time, because the opportunity had already arisen.

Although Trotsky had a slight opinion about the transitional leaders who were the successors of the past, he felt that Lenin was underestimating him. At the same time, however, he felt that it was an opportunity. Throughout the twenties, although he constantly jumped up and down trying to catch up with Lenin. But no matter how hard he tried, Lenin was always the only unique one in the party, and he could never replace Lenin.

Speak from the heart. This hurt Trotsky. Also depressed. Of course, it is inevitable to be frightened, once Lenin gets tired of him, once Lenin wants to replace him, it is a kung fu to move his mouth. Especially after the incident at the Military Commission, Trotsky was even more clearly aware of this.

That is, if Lenin had clearly expressed his opposition to Trotsky's succession, he would have had no hope at all. In that case, it is likely that Lenin would probably not be the only one who would retire from politics in 1935. He Trotsky will also be included.

Was this the result that Trotsky wanted? No one will like this result. And now, albeit a bit humiliating, Trotsky had a chance not to withdraw from the stage of history, and even to gain the supreme power of the Soviet Union. Even if it takes a lot of money to sit in that position, as long as you can get to the top, it means that there is still hope, right?

After some deliberation, Trotsky felt that he might as well accept the kindness of "Lenin" and pretend to be a transitional leader, as long as he can take the position, and then it is difficult to say whether he will be a transitional leader or not, right?

The proud Trotsky was ready to bow to reality for the time being, so-called for the next year or so. He was ready to lower his posture a little, so that Lenin would think that he had resigned himself to his fate. His arrangement has been accepted.

And now, just as Trotsky was about to pretend to be his grandson, Tukhachevsky came to the door on his own initiative and demanded that he turn over the battle, and that he was engaged in such a big battle for the sake of a little "insignificant" trifle. To be honest, Trotsky was annoyed and bored.

In Lao To's view, throughout the twenties, if he had not vigorously supported Tukhachevsky, it would have been impossible for this thing to engage in any kind of mechanization and large-depth operations. For the sake of these military theories of Tukhachevsky, he clashed with Stalin and Li Xiaofeng a lot, and really offended many people.

It is said that Tukhachevsky should read him well, should understand his difficult situation, and at this time, don't mess around, and learn to dress like him.

"Comrade Trotsky, how can you make Andrei. Petrovich so nonsense? How can precious foreign exchange resources be wasted? I am categorically against the introduction of French engines, which is unnecessary......"

Looking at Tukhachevsky, who became more and more excited, Trotsky was very tired, he was not completely ignorant of military affairs, and the introduction of French engines was not entirely a military issue. Trotsky was familiar with the current state of Russian industry, especially the military industry.

In Trotsky's view, Russia still owes a lot of money in the area of power, and although the introduction of the Wright Whirlwind series from the United States, Bristol in Britain, and BMW in Germany has made Russia not as embarrassed as the First World War, but its technical reserves are still quite weak. Let's put it this way, it's not a problem to introduce a little more technology at all, the problem is that the technology introduced is not enough and not good enough.

For example, the ancestor of the AM-34, derived from the German BMW 6, began to be tossed in 1927, and it was not until 1933 that a problematic semi-finished product was made. What is the reason, it is not that the technical reserves are not enough.

Now, although the 12Ybrs is a 12-cylinder water-cooled engine like the AM-34, the maximum power is almost the same, but it is more mature and lighter. The most important thing is that as long as you buy 12Ybrs, you can also introduce 12Ycrs and the land god - Rhone 14, no matter how you look at it, it's a good thing!

Trotsky couldn't think of any reason to oppose it anyway? Even before he listened to Arcadia, an expert in power systems in the aviation sector. Dmitrievich. Shvetov mentioned to him that compared with the Wright Whirlwind, although the Land God-RhΓ΄ne 14 series engine is not as "exquisite" as the American product, it is very suitable for use in a country like the Soviet Union with a relatively poor aviation industrial base, and its structure is simple and the damage bearing is very good.

At that time, Shvetov said to him in a very regretful tone: "It's a pity that the French government does not agree to sell the technology of this engine, otherwise, we would not have to worry about power in the next ten years!" ”

Who is Shvetov? It was a veteran aviation power expert, and the Soviet Union's domestically produced Wright Whirlwind 1820 was presided over by this person who was in charge of the ASh-82FN piston engine, which was later widely used in the La series of fighters. Even Shvetov said that a good engine, can it be bad?

Trotsky looked at a serious Tukhachevsky and wanted to ask: "Are you crazy?" ”

After thinking about it. Trotsky still said very tactfully: "Shvetov and Klimov have mentioned it to me before. The Lona 14 series engine is very suitable for China's national conditions. Isn't this a good addition in the case of the refusal of the Americans to sell the Wright 1820F-54 (this engine is an improved version of the 1820 with a two-stage mechanical increase applied, which guarantees a power of 8000 horsepower even at an altitude of 690 meters, which the initial version introduced in the USSR could not do? ”

Trotsky said it mildly, but Tukhachevsky was furious, and said a little furiously: "How is this a good addition? The French engine and the American engine are completely different technologies, and it is a waste to launch two production lines with similar technology at the same time. It's a crime! ”

Trotsky was taken aback by Tukhachevsky's loud voice, and he really couldn't figure out what there was to be excited about, and there was no waste at all! Now the domestic technical foundation is weak, the engine is scarce, not to mention the two different production lines, it doesn't matter if there is one more!

Yes, as Trotsky said, throughout the twenties and thirties, the Red Army may have been very poor in other areas, but in the field of engines it was really a big dog. The investment is really shocking. French technology, American technology, British technology, German technology, let's just say that. As long as it can be bought with money, the Politburo, the Central Committee, and the People's Committee will rush to pay for it!

It is precisely because of the tremendous investment in these ten years that the Red Army has laid a solid foundation and has been able to leap from the level of the aviation industry during World War I to the number one group in the world's aviation industry.

It was precisely because the Central Committee was willing to spend a lot of money on the aviation industry that Trotsky became more and more incomprehensible to Tukhachevsky's madness. After thinking about it again, he could only say: "I'll study this problem again!" ”

In fact, there is nothing to study, although Trotsky and Li Xiaofeng have sharp contradictions, Trotsky will not say anything about the development of aviation technology, as long as someone wholeheartedly imports advanced foreign technology at a reasonable price. In the final analysis, Trotsky was still reasonable, and he would not oppose for the sake of opposition.

But Tukhachevsky was different, his anger was very uncomfortable, his anger was very great, and his reason had already left him. So he had to be more serious, and after Trotsky did not explicitly support him, he became even more angry, almost angry!

"Comrade Trotsky, how can you be so irresponsible, the introduction of French engines must be stopped, there are no conditions to talk about this, this is a must!"

At that moment, looking at the hideous-looking Tukhachevsky, Trotsky was stunned and did not know what to say with his mouth open......

At the same time, another person who didn't know what to say was also dumbfounded at this time, and this is our protagonist Li Xiaofeng. And it was naturally Ordzhonikidze who made him feel that the egg hurts.

Ordzhonikid opposed Tupolev's development of new twin-engine and four-engine bombers, which was tantamount to catching Li Xiaofeng off guard. As the chairman of the aviation industry committee, this person still has a lot of say in the introduction of technology, if he bites his bite and does not let go, the rest of the matter will be very troublesome and difficult to do.

Who knew that when Stalin called this product out to talk about it, this product actually said that as long as Tupolev took over him, he would oppose it to the end, and not only oppose the new twin-engine and four-engine bombers, but also oppose the introduction of French engine technology!

And when Li Xiaofeng wanted to ask what kind of hatred this thing had with Tupolev, guess how this thing answered?

Ordzhonikidze replied: "I just can't get used to the habits of the bourgeois intellectuals of that thing, so I just want to teach him a good lesson!" ”

This Nima ...... Li Xiaofeng was directly speechless, because Ordzhonikidze was simply unreasonable! Tupolev was special among the high-ranking intellectuals of the USSR, and where was the special? Tupolev was not "forced to serve" the Bolsheviks after they came to power!

Tupolev was different from other intellectuals in the Soviet Union at that time, as early as his youth when he was a student at the Moscow Industrial College, he was a progressive student with advanced ideas, and he was expelled from the school for agitating the student uprising. And in 1917, when the Bolsheviks had not yet seized power in the October Revolution. This one resolutely joined the Bolsheviks! Look at it from a later perspective. Tupolev can even be considered an old revolutionary!

And after Lenin ordered the formation of the Central Institute of Air Fluids. Together with his mentor, Zhukovsky, a well-known Russian aerologist, Tupolev joined the Central Institute of Air Fluids.

A person like this, with the habits of a bourgeois intellectual? Isn't that?!

Because of this, Li Xiaofeng couldn't help but think of the historical materials he saw later, why Tupolev was so miserable during the Great Purge, the reason is that this relationship with Ordzhonikidze was quite bad, and Ordzhonikidze did not say bad things about Tupolev in front of Stalin!

Anyway, Li Xiaofeng felt that this rumor was probably not groundless, it was true, so he tried to mediate the dispute between the two. Tried to get Ordzhonikidze to let Tupolev go. But what he didn't expect was that Ordzhonikidze didn't like him at all, and his tone was quite hard and quite impulsive, so it didn't seem to have anything to talk about.

In desperation, Li Xiaofeng looked at Stalin again, hoping that steel would stop playing the unfathomable silence is golden, hurry up and speak, let your little brother restrain a little, otherwise everyone will stop playing! To Li Xiaofeng's surprise, Stalin was indifferent. As a result, the talks naturally ended without a hitch.

"What does Stalin mean by this?" Yakov also felt inexplicable, "It shouldn't be! ”

Yes. Since the last time Li Xiaofeng and Stalin reached an agreement, the relationship between the two sides has been much more harmonious, at least there will be no blatant dismantling of Taiwan. And now, how has the situation changed?

In the end, it was Mironov who solved Li Xiaofeng's confusion with one word: "Comrade Andrei, you still don't know? The army, especially the cavalry system, is very unhappy with your unilateral support of Arksnis! ”

Li Xiaofeng thought about it a little, and suddenly it dawned on him, he finally knew what the problem was. Tukhachevsky's suppression of the Air Force is indeed not in line with the trend of history, and it is also a selfish move that is harmful and unhelpful. But this kind of selfishness is happy for the army, especially for the cavalry system.

Tukhachevsky strongly advocated the development of front-line bombers and attack aircraft. The cavalry was quite interested, and at one time asked for the development of cavalry bombers. In order to highlight the ground strike power, they even tried their best to require bombers or attack planes to be equipped with large-caliber artillery.

For example, Tupolev's ANT-29 was equipped with a 102 mm Kurchevsky airborne recoilless gun, and later an attempt was made to install two of these recoilless guns or two 45 mm APK-11s on the ANT-40. Fortunately, it was the purge that killed Kurchevsky, otherwise the ANT-40, later the SB-2 fast bomber, would have turned into an out-and-out freak.

And now, according to Li Xiaofeng's request, these freak schemes have been shot, can the cavalry be happy? Even if they don't like Tukhachevsky, they will temporarily stand on the side of Xiaotu out of the interests of their own service. And that's why the opposition is so strong, and why Ordzhonichi is resolutely opposed.

Speaking of which, I have to say that Stalin was indeed insidious enough, obviously he had to object, but he did not oppose it clearly, but secretly instructed his younger brother to be bad, and pretended that I was innocent and supported you. I'm afraid that Bukharin's history is also so confused.

Not to mention, even if Li Xiaofeng saw through the essence of Stalin, he couldn't openly find trouble with this goods, let alone threaten each other by shelving the cooperation between the two sides. In other words, if he wants to break through the encirclement, Li Xiaofeng can only talk about things.

After thinking about it for a while, Li Xiaofeng instructed: "Invite Chomsky, Tupolev, Polikarpov, Shvetov, Klimov, Mikulin and other experts here, I need to have a good talk with them!" ”

Which of these names that popped out of Li Xiaofeng's mouth did not leave a prominent mark in the Soviet aviation industry, and it can be said that this group of people are all scholars and masters in the Soviet aviation industry. If they jointly support the introduction of French engine technology, it can be said that from a technical point of view, no one can resist!

So what is the attitude of these experts towards the introduction of French engines?

Strong support, raise your hands in favor! Especially for the 12Y series liquid-cooled engine, they are very optimistic, especially the old designer Polikarpov is the most determined, that is a strong request for the introduction of this type of engine!

So why are Polikarpov and others so optimistic about this liquid-cooled engine? This is explained from the fundamental performance of the star engine and the V-engine.

It is true that the star engine abandons the complex liquid cooling equipment due to air cooling, which seems to save a lot of weight. But this is premised, that is, in the case of relatively small engine power. When the power requirement is very high, air cooling is not suitable (a large number of metal heat sinks are also dead heavy). Let's put it this way, as long as the engine power reaches a threshold, the weight of the liquid cooling equipment is not a problem!

Polikarpov appreciates another key factor in liquid-cooled engines, and that is the issue of engine supercharging. The pressure of the air is lower at an altitude of 8,000 meters, and the pressure is only one-third of that at sea level. For piston engines, the less intake pressure the piston does work, so the greater the flight altitude, the lower the power of the engine.

In order to pursue greater speed, the aircraft must pursue more power, so how to ensure the power of the engine at high altitude? Then you have to use pressurization...... (To be continued......)
