Volume 100 and 4 Grilled cold noodles
Grilled cold noodles, a street food as famous as Tohoku barbecue. It is generally a small mobile three-wheeler, freshly baked and sold. Its status in Chahachong is similar to the rock sugar gourd in Beijing, the twist flower in Tianjin, and the stinky tofu in Hunan...... Although it can be regarded as a national snack, there are basically more female customers.
Most university campuses are relatively open, and anyone can enter and exit. Especially for people like ours, who not only have a front door, but also a back door, a small door, and a side door, it is a great market for itinerant vendors. Only during the period of Jialiu was the itinerant vendors turned away, and later with the end of the epidemic, those temporary rules and regulations naturally could not restrain the hard-working Chinese.
Although our school is a science and engineering college, there are still a large number of female students in the West Campus, which has brought a huge market for baked cold noodles. Every time I pass by the stall where the cold noodles are grilled, there are always girls waiting patiently in line. In the beginning, there was only one baked cold noodle stall on campus, which occupied the entire market share of our school. Seeing that business was booming, competitors began to emerge, and it didn't take long for a three-wheeled tricycle with cold noodles parked at each of the main entrances, but the queue in front of the bus was not reduced by the diversion. Later, vendors selling stinky tofu and knick-knacks began to settle on campus, but they were not as prosperous as the grilled cold noodle stalls.
When I first reported for my freshman year, my dad and I were taken by her aunt, a female classmate at the same table, to eat a bowl of authentic Korean cold noodles. Later, the green bow girl also recommended grilled cold noodles to me, but I thought that even if I changed the cooking method, the sweet and sour taste probably wouldn't suit my appetite, so I have always been resistant to baked cold noodles, so I haven't eaten them in Cha Ha Chong for a long time. Now that I see that the girls love this food so much, I also doubt my judgment a little and wonder if I should try it again.
One day when I returned to my dormitory from the library, I found that there was also a tricycle for baking cold noodles at the entrance of our dormitory, and several girls were waiting in line. There is also a vendor selling stinky tofu on the side, and two boys are waiting for the stinky tofu to come out of the pot.
In my hometown, the marinade of stinky tofu is made from the marinade of moldy stalks, and the dried tofu is marinated in the marinade and then fried in an oil pan. The smell basically dissipates after frying, and instead exudes a salty aroma, so you don't need to pinch your nose to eat it, and I remember that I haven't eaten it for a long time. When I saw the words "stinky tofu" on the tricycle, saliva began to accumulate in my mouth. I didn't know what Cha Ha Chong's stinky tofu was, so I went over it. The stinky tofu that the boss had just fried didn't seem to smell like anything special, but when he poured something on it, a pungent smell exploded in front of me like a bomb.
At this time, three more girls came over holding hands, and they watched as the two vendors were caught in a dilemma.
"The baked cold noodles are so fragrant, do you want to eat them?"
"No, I'll lose weight, you two eat."
"The three of us will order one."
"Okay, then I'll eat with you."
"Eh, there is stinky tofu here, it seems to be delicious."
"Do you eat grilled cold noodles or stinky tofu? Pick one! ”
"Doesn't stinky tofu stink?"
"Smell it." After speaking, the three of them stretched their necks to the stinky tofu that had just been held in the hands of the stinky tofu stall owner, and then sucked it violently.
"It stinks!!" The three of them spoke in unison.
"Forget it, let's eat cold baked noodles." So, the three of them gathered around the grilled cold noodle stall again, just as the last wave of customers took the freshly baked cold noodles and left.
I was actually very curious about how to bake cold noodles, and I thought how to bake cold noodles one by one, so I also leaned over to them. In between, the boss used two mud shovels to clean the iron plate that had just been baked, then poured some oil on it, then pulled out two square cakes from the side and covered them with the previous oil, and beat the eggs to cover the square cakes, and turned the cakes with a mud spatula, and the eggs were evenly covered on the iron plate. When the square cake was slightly yellowed, the boss began to brush the sauce and sprinkle the ingredients. When the boss poured the vinegar on it, there was a "bang", and a sweet and sour smell rushed to his face. Then the boss sprinkled coriander and onions, and when the eggs were fully cooked, he rolled the two cakes together, brushed the sauce again, and finally skillfully cut them into small cubes with a mud spatula, all in disposable bowls. He took the girls' money with one hand and the grilled cold noodles with the other.
The three girls eagerly tasted it and then walked in the direction of their dormitory, praising the street delicacy as they went.
I swallowed my saliva and a question arose in my mind: What about cold noodles? After careful inference, those two square cakes are cold noodles, and the cold noodles here refer to the ingredients, while the cold noodles I ate before refer to the recipe. No wonder Lin Ye asked for cold noodles as the staple food when he ordered Malatang before, and I was still wondering if this piping hot Malatang and cold cold noodles could be delicious together? After thinking about it, I began to want to try it, but after thinking about it, a grilled cold noodle is not cheap, and I may not be able to eat enough at this point, so it is better to cook instant noodles downstairs in the dormitory, and save the money to practice driving. Just as another group of guests came around, I completely dispelled the idea of tasting it, and at the same time, I gave up the remembrance of stinky tofu and walked straight towards the dormitory door. Coincidentally, because we would always pass by these two vendors, Lao Zhao couldn't stand the temptation of the smell, so he bought a copy and brought it to the bedroom for us to share. We all ate it with relish, but the smell lingered in the bedroom for a long time!
In the days that followed, every time I passed by the grilled cold noodle stall, I was no longer as curious as before, and I just looked at the queue and thought
It's quite lucrative to be a street vendor. If I don't go to college and set up a stall, at most I will have to work hard sooner or later? But things are far from being as simple as I thought.
As usual, when I returned to my bedroom after eating at Dale, I happened to pass by a cold noodle stall. The difference is that this time there is no waiting queue in front of the stall, and the stall owner's face and upper body are like being sprinkled with chili noodles, and half of them are red. It seems that he has a conflict with others, and according to the bold character of the people of the Northeast, he must have done it. I was afraid that I would be in trouble, so I quickly left the scene.
Back in my dorm, I immediately shared what I had seen on Renren, and soon all sorts of stories followed. Some said that the stall owner had a dispute with the students, and some said that it was peer competition, and the cold noodle stall owner I saw was a newcomer who was beaten by the original stall owner. It is even said that the red on the stall owner's face and body is full of blood! For a while, there were different opinions, and I didn't know which one was the truth, anyway, I just "reported" the incident.
On the contrary, the girls are worried, according to them, the school has long been thinking of banning the itinerant vendors on campus, and there is a reason for this, and from now on, everyone will not be able to eat cold noodles anytime and anywhere. The girls also said that the grilled cold noodles at the school stalls were much better than the ones outside, and that if the school really planned to get serious, it would be a big loss for the girls!
It also gave me a slap in the face and made me sober up: no line of work is easy or simple, many things are not what we seem, and we never know what is behind the scenes of those who "succeed". Therefore, I should go to my university well, listen to the lectures seriously, and prepare for the graduate school entrance examination with peace of mind. As for livelihood and income, these are not the scope of my need to consider for the time being, and there will be opportunities for me to taste life in the future.
