Act 234. Reiner's investigation
The servant leaned over and continued.
"A few decades ago, North wasn't as touristy as it is now, and the income of the people in the city wasn't as high as it is now, and at that time, almost no one came to this beach except for fishermen."
His voice was a little soft, and although it was early in the morning, as the servant spoke, the whole parlor was also enveloped in a strange atmosphere.
"It is said that at that time, the bandit groups in the city would rob some of the returning fishermen, and they would kidnap them when they landed, take away valuable things, and then brutally kill them, and the corpses would be piled up in the corners of the beach where people do not usually come."
"Grand, these are rumors from the countryside, and they don't have any credibility."
Joe couldn't help but say that at first he thought that this servant had some important information, but he didn't expect that it was actually a ghost story.
"Mr. Qiao, I don't think it's okay to listen to what he says."
Reiner said, motioning for the servant, named Grand, to continue.
"Well, where did you just go, oh yes, the corpses, these corpses were piled up in the reef, washed away by the sea, gradually decayed, and finally sank into the sea, but these fishermen died with a deep grudge, so their souls could not be rested, and after years of savings, they became ghosts, looking for their families."
After Grand's words, the servants around him were silent, apparently, they also knew the legend.
"You mean, the shadows are actually these fishermen?"
Reiner spoke the meaning of Grand's words.
"Yes, these fishermen are good-natured, so they don't harm anyone else, they just want to find their own families, so they wander around here."
Grand swore as if he had seen the shadows in their own eyes.
"And Mr. Grand, where and when did you see the shadow?"
Reiner didn't ask too much about the ghost story, but instead moved on to the normal questioning session.
"Uh, yes, the black shadow, I was three days ago, that day I was keeping vigil with two other people, in the middle of the night, I went to the toilet alone, and I saw that black shadow in the backyard, I didn't notice it at first, it was after passing by it, I suddenly realized, I turned around, the black shadow flew past me, I also smelled a fishy smell of seawater, and then, we took the lamp and looked for it for a long time, and there was no trace of the black shadow, oh yes, there are still some water stains in the backyard, I think it must be the ghost left."
This Grand seems to like storytelling, adding a lot of details that I don't know if it's true or not.
"Sea water?"
Reiner had some ideas, but needed more information.
He then asked several other servants, and at last came up with some conclusions.
First of all, this dark shadow only appears in the backyard at night, is able to move at high speed on the ground, and has extremely strong jumping and reflexes that are almost impossible to catch, and its first sighting was recorded a month ago.
Secondly, as Sofinite said, this dark shadow does not make contact with humans, nor does it destroy or steal things, it is like coming here for a walk, it suddenly appears and disappears, and the detection circle does not catch any traces of humans.
Finally, in the descriptions of several people, this black shadow has a fishy smell of seawater, and at the same time, water stains are often found in the places it passes, and these waters are all seawater, and the composition seems to be no different from ordinary ones.
"Mr. Ian Gray, did you find anything?"
Joe asked all the servants who had been questioned to go back to their normal work, and then asked Reiner.
"Well, there's some speculation."
The floating quill beside Reiner stopped writing, the notebook fell into his hand, and the rest of the stationery returned to the storage bag.
"At the moment, I don't think it's a ghost, and certainly not a human."
His words made Joe frown slightly, lost in thought.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Ian Gray, for being stupid and not understanding what you mean."
"Hehe, Mr. Qiao, don't forget that in this world, there is not only one human being."
Reiner pointed to the vastness of the sea.
"I think that the body of the black shadow should be some kind of creature in the sea."
"In the sea?"
Joe was born in the Outback, but had lived in North for more than twenty years, and had eaten all kinds of strange sea creatures, or at least seen them, but he had never heard of a creature similar to this black shadow.
"This villa has always been guarded by servants, but it was only a month ago that the dark shadow appeared, which proves that this dark shadow did not exist in the vicinity of this villa in the past, at least not around this villa."
Reiner explained.
"The detection circle did not find any traces of strange humans, in fact, it can show that the essence of the black shadow is not human, and combined with other characteristics, such as extremely fast speed, strong jumping power, and excellent reflexes, then you can roughly outline the characteristics of this creature."
He flipped to a page of his notebook, and there were all kinds of records and summaries on it.
"It's an amphibious creature with some degree of camouflage and concealment, a lot of agility on land, it's not big, but it's not clear why it came to a villa some distance from the beach."
The vast majority of creatures have a more or less territorial consciousness, and their purpose of movement is about that, either to breed or forage, or because of the migration caused by the climate, judging from the fact that there is no lack of things in the villa, the creature does not look like it is here to forage, and it is not a good place to breed, and there is no way to talk about climatic reasons.
"Mr. Joe, is there an owl here to send a letter, I need to write a letter."
Reiner closed his notebook and asked the butler beside him.
"Absolutely."
Jo nodded, since Sofinite had studied magic, so naturally he also set up owl messengers in the places he frequented, in fact, the relationship between the Sofinite family and some mages was not just as simple as customers.
Reiner returned to his room, spent about fifteen minutes writing a letter for the owl to deliver, and walked out of the mansion.
The investigation into the Shadow has made some progress, and the rest of the work will not be carried out until a reply is received, Reiner has calculated that the results will not be available until the evening if he is lucky.
With that out of the way, Reiner should return to the main point of his trip, which is to enjoy the sea.
Following the manicured path beside the villa, Reiner descended the sea cliff to the private beach of the Sofinite family, which was close to the silver desert but looked extremely empty.
On the beach, a few girls were playing.
