Act XLVIII. gift
Two days later, it was the first day of the weekend.
Dana got up early as usual, changed into a short sailor suit, and sat on the bed, unable to move.
In normal times, she would have gone to work-study, helped clean the campus, and then studied on her own for a while, doing a few math problems, and in the evening researching new dresses.
But today is her birthday.
Dana. Christine's birthday is also Yatrou. Kristen and Erena. Christine's death day.
The girl had mixed feelings in her heart, and an inexplicable sense of irritability swept over her, causing insomnia since last night, and finally fell asleep until late at night, and when she looked in the mirror this morning, faint dark circles were faintly visible.
In order to calm herself down, Dana took out the test paper that Reiner gave him and decided to do a few math problems.
As the formula began to be calculated, Dana felt her heart gradually calm down, and it took her about half an hour to solve a big problem with three questions, put down her pen, and then slowly stood up and walked out of her bedroom.
The sun of the white dew moon scorched the earth, the brick and stone paved ground was like a high-temperature heated iron plate, and the heat could be felt through the soles of shoes, and there were not many students staying in the campus square, causing the whole campus to appear quiet.
Dana walked down the hallway to the place Reiner had told her, and it was a normal classroom.
She stood in the doorway and pondered for a moment before stepping inside.
Bang –
Two crisp chimes burst in her ears, followed by colorful paper bags and falling confetti.
"Happy Birthday!"
It turned out to be Rena and Euleka, the two girls hiding in the doorway, waiting for Dana to step into the classroom so that she could surprise her with the cracker in her hand.
"Wow...... Thank you, thank you. ”
Dana was naturally startled, her head was covered with paper tapes, but she didn't feel annoyed, she looked into the classroom, and found that except for the two people guarding the door, Reiner and Claire were already waiting here, and even Fina was sitting quietly by the window reading a book.
Obviously, Reiner called several of the people who were going to Toleño to take the exam together.
The words Happy Birthday were written on the blackboard in colored chalk on the classroom board, and in the middle of the room, four tables were put together into a large table, on which lay a large cream cake, on which seventeen candles were inserted, waiting to be lit.
"You're coming a little later than I expected."
Reiner smiled, gently brushing a few ribbons off Dana's head.
"Slightly delayed by something."
Dana replied that in fact, on the way here, Dana had already thought it through.
Her parents have passed away, and she shouldn't always feel guilty for the two of them, only by looking forward and continuing to move forward can she make up for the regret in her heart.
Dana is determined that from today onwards, she will completely break free from the influence of the past and look to the future.
"Looks like you're no longer tangled."
Reiner said, handing Dana a familiar note.
This was the note that Reiner asked all the students to write about what they wanted to do at the first morning meeting.
And this one is Dana's.
Taking the note, Dana looked at what she had thought more than a month ago, she smiled slightly, and held it in the palm of her hand.
There was only one sentence on the note:
If you want to be a mage, even the most lame and stupid mage, it is enough to be a mage - Dana. Christine.
Even though her parents were obsessed with research and didn't value herself, Dana still had such a dream from a young age, that is, to be a mage.
Because the world is so colorful, it would be a pity if the perception of it was only superficial.
"Let's make a wish."
Claire has lit the candles, and according to the tradition of this world, the birthday bearer needs to blow out the candle and make a wish, which is likely to come true one day in the future.
It's a world of magic and wonder, and Reiner thinks maybe there's some kind of mysterious power in it.
After everyone sang the birthday song, Dana closed her eyes slightly and blew softly.
The candle was extinguished, and it was as if some kind of will had been inspired, but no one was aware of it.
Dana opened her eyes to smiling friends, and for the first time, she felt that celebrating her birthday didn't seem so difficult.
Just then, Reiner spoke.
"He's here."
The group followed Reiner's gaze and saw a man in a robe standing in the doorway of the classroom.
"Uncle Chester......"
Dana cried out, looking at the man.
The man was slender, but his face was full of traces of time, he obviously looked no more than thirty years old, but his head was already white, he saw Dana, smiled slightly, as if he was a little sorry.
"I want to surprise you."
Chester walked into the classroom and nodded to Reiner first.
"Mr. Ian Gray, thank you for your reply."
"That's what I'm supposed to do."
Reiner replied that the conversation between the two made Dana a little unclear, so when did his uncle have a relationship with Reiner?
"Dana, actually, I'm here to give you a gift."
Chester hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Gifts?"
Dana was even more confused, but listened quietly to Chester.
"Atru and Elena, both of them fell ten years ago due to the collapse of the half-plane, theoretically, all the matter that exists in that half-plane should have been annihilated, but just a few days ago, I got something."
Chester took out a small cloth bag from his robe, and the original delicate decoration of the cloth bag could be vaguely seen, but after the baptism of wind and rain, the appearance had been mottled and faded.
But Dana recognized what it was at first sight.
"This is Daddy's storage bag?"
Yes, this is Atru. Christine's carry-on storage bag, which contained his lab notes and paper drafts, was deeply impressed by the fact that Dana had secretly used them to play with as a child and was subsequently severely lectured by her father.
Chester nodded and handed it to Dana.
"I think you deserve this thing."
"But ......"
But she obviously disappointed her parents, Dana thought, she always remembered that disappointed look, at this moment, this storage bag, like a curse, made Dana feel the weight on her shoulders again, does she really deserve to have this storage bag and the contents inside?
"Let's open it and take a look."
Chester said the bag had long since failed to seal it, making it easy for anyone to open it.
After a moment of silence, Dana seemed to muster up courage to open the storage bag and reach out to take out the contents.
Surprisingly, however, it wasn't the familiar lab notes, nor the drafts of the papers, or even suicide notes or magic props.
It was a delicate, transparent glass box with a crumpled paper crane glued together from shards.
At the bottom of the box, a sentence is written.
- In memory of the great mage Dana. Christine's initial step.
