Chapter 6: The Hogwarts Express
The sun was shining brightly on September 1st, and it seemed that even God was congratulating the new students on their enrollment.
The sky over London was clear, and a few faint clouds hung on the blue sky. The refreshing breeze blows in everyone's ears, like a soft whisper that makes people intoxicated.
Maca bought a new suitcase in Diagon Alley, this one was second-hand from a scrap shop, and the Traceless Stretch Charm inside was a little damaged, making it much smaller, but thankfully the Ministry of Magic's permission sticker was still firmly attached to the flap on the inside.
After trying to belittle the box and slashing the price several times, Maca finally endured the pain and bought it. He was walking down the platform aisle of King's Cross Station, enjoying the pleasure of buying a gold Galleon – with only an owl and a light suitcase in his luggage.
After a while, he was between platforms 9 and 10, but he hesitated as he stared at the thick pillar.
"Oh?" Maca stretched out her hand, and sure enough, she passed through the stone brick pillar wall, and couldn't help but show a surprised expression.
The first time I was always a little unaccustomed, although I didn't feel pain, I was still a little nervous. With a small step forward, he found himself already through there, to the real Hogwarts Express platform.
Smoke from steam locomotives bilfted over the chirping crowd, and cats of all colors walked through people's feet. Amid the humming of the crowd and the cacophony of dragging heavy luggage, owls also chirped and chirped.
The owl standing on Maca's left shoulder looked much larger than the others, and it was quiet, not at all like the little ones who cooed incessantly. It blinked its big bright eyes and looked at the crowd in the aisle in front of it, unmoved.
Yes, after all this time together, Maca noticed that his pure black owl didn't seem to like to be in a cage. It hasn't been back since he released it.
"Marfa, let's go!" Maca gave it a rather imposing name - Malfurion, of course, simply "Marfa".
"Goo." Marfa softly squealed in agreement.
There were already a lot of people in the carriage, and Maca passed several carriages, but he didn't see anyone he knew, so he randomly chose a cubicle with fewer people and walked in.
"Oh, good morning!" Maca stood in the doorway and nodded to the people inside, "You don't mind if I sit here, do you?" ”
"Of course, please come in!" A dark-haired boy replied immediately.
The boy seemed a little reserved and didn't seem to be very good at communicating with people, and after he answered, he shrank back in his seat and did not speak.
"You don't mind introducing yourself, do you?" Seeing that the atmosphere in the compartment was a little cold, Maca had to start a topic, "My name is Maca, Maca McLean, what about you?" ”
“…… Anthony Goldstein. The brunette boy snorted, looking more nervous.
It seems that he is really not very good at chatting. Maca nodded, and didn't communicate with the other party any further, he still had a lot to do! For example, endorsements, endorsements, and endorsements.
Taking out a copy of "A Thousand Magical Herbs and Mushrooms" from his suitcase, Maca read it carefully—it was a bit thick, and the plants in it were so varied that he had only memorized half of them.
After a short while, two more people came in the compartment. It seems that because of the increase in people, the black-haired Anthony has always been in an unnatural state from the beginning, and he has forced himself to look out the window, pretending to be looking at the scenery.
"Hello everyone! My name is Ernie McMillan, and it's a pleasure to meet you. The blonde boy who had just come in looked sunny, and he looked at Maca, who was sitting across from him, and said hello loudly.
Maca nodded at him, smiled and introduced herself, then turned her head to look at the last girl to come in.
"Well, that ......" the girl was stroking her long brown hair, as if trying to make it more compliant, and it looked like she wasn't quite happy with her naturally curly hair.
"Lisa, Lisa Dupin...... Oh! As she spoke, she suddenly screamed in pain, probably pulling off a few hairs as a result of pushing too hard.
"Hey, Maca! I said, what book are you reading? "Ernie is short and stocky, but the clothes are gorgeous and distinctive, and he looks like he has a good family.
It's just that Maca didn't find in him the arrogance that those noble children often have, and it seems that he is a friend worth making.
"Oh, I'm reading a textbook!" Maca put the book up and showed the cover to Ernie.
"Oh! I also have this book at home, but I never thought to read it, it's too thick, and the title seems boring for the most part. Ernie scratched his head, making the otherwise neat blonde hair a mess.
Lisa, who was sitting next to Maca, frowned at Ernie's hair, but didn't say anything, just turned her head to look at Maka.
Maca has always felt that maintaining a neat appearance is a necessity to make others feel good about her. After all, most people still prefer to dress flat and have a clean appearance, although Maca personally thinks that it is good as long as it is comfortable.
Lisa looked at Maca to herself, then nodded in satisfaction.
Obviously, this cute looking girl is not only very demanding of her appearance, but also of others.
After that, except for Anthony, who basically didn't talk much, the other three had some preliminary exchanges, and said that they would also have more contacts at school. Of course, Lisa clearly prefers to talk to Maca, though the somewhat rough-witted Ernie doesn't notice that.
As for the harvest along the way, in addition to memorizing dozens of herbs, the rest is probably "having a hasty meeting with Miss Hermione Granger"!
It's just that her arrogant attitude, super fast speech speed, and eager code of action really make Maca a little overwhelmed. After a few perfunctory remarks, Hermione hurried away again.
By the way, she was helping Neville find a toad - presumably, in fact, Maca barely heard clearly, and his attention was all about memorizing the name of the herb at that moment!
The Hogwarts Express had been running all day, and by the time it slowed down, it was already dark.
The train's terminus is set across the lake outside the back door of Hogwarts, and new students have to take a four-person boat to Hogwarts, which is probably one of the Hogwarts traditions. Of course, if you feel like you're suffering from seasickness in the future, you might be able to go around the lake to the front door, although that does sound a bit silly.
"Keep your head down!" As the first boats approached the cliff, Hagrid, who was alone in one boat, shouted.
Everyone bowed their heads, and the boat carried them through the ivy curtain that covered the cliff front to the secluded open entrance. They followed a pitch-black tunnel that seemed to lead to the castle underneath, and finally reached a place that resembled an underground pier, and then climbed up to the ground of gravel and small pebbles.
Illuminated by Hagrid's lanterns, the freshmen climbed a tunnel in the rocks and finally reached a flat, damp meadow in the shadow of the castle.
They climbed a stone staircase and gathered in front of a large oak door.
"Are you all there?" Hagrid raised his massive fist and slammed it three times on the castle gate.
The door suddenly opened, and a tall black-haired witch in an emerald green robe stood in front of it. She has a serious expression and looks like a character who is not very easy to fool.
"First-year freshman, Professor McGonagall." Hagrid said.
"Thank you, Hagrid, I'll pick it up here."
Hogwarts Castle is terrifyingly large, even the hall at the back door. A row of flaming torches is attached to the stone wall, the ceiling is so high that you can barely see the top, and the façade is a sumptuous marble staircase that leads to the upper floor.
There was a faint noise of people in the door on the right, and the other senior students of Hogwarts must have arrived first. But instead of taking them inside, Professor McGonagall led them to an empty room across the hall.
The empty room was a small space, and the freshmen were sitting side by side, most of them nervously observing everything around them.
Maca was no exception, he was carrying a suitcase, and at one point was squeezed into a corner by the crowd, and even the owl Marfa stood helplessly on top of his head.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," Professor McGonagall said, "the opening party is about to begin, but before you get to the dining hall and take your seats, you should first determine which house you are going to. Sorting is an important ritual because during your time at school, the house is like your home at Hogwarts......"
Maca was squeezed behind, and she didn't have the interest to listen carefully to Professor McGonagall's speech, just quietly waiting for it to begin.
“…… I'll pick you up when I'm ready. Professor McGonagall said, "While you wait, be quiet. ”
Just as Professor McGonagall finished speaking, Maca suddenly heard a "grunt".
"Levy!" A boy screamed from the front, and Maca shook her head in tears.
"Please be quiet!"
Professor McGonagall repeated it in a hard tone before leaving the room, and Maca immediately heard the laughter of several people in front of her.
"Oh——!" Suddenly, the screams of several more people were heard in front.
"What's wrong again?" Maca grumbled under her breath, tiptoe up and looked ahead, "Well, that's—"
