Chapter 87: Prelude to Madness (3)
The sturdy Calamity Raven fell from the sky and landed firmly on the arm of a black knight, obediently folding its wings. The Black Knight turned his head sideways, meeting the chilling blood-red pupils. The caven chirped hoarsely, and the black knight bowed slightly, raising his hand to send the caven into the sky. The calamity crow disappeared like a dark cloud, and the Black Knight walked quickly behind Meldrey and whispered, "There is a group of centaurs who have crossed the Gatu steppe into Boimbru. β
"None of the people who can cross the Gatu steppes are good stubble, but most of them have a background in Saarion. When did Ranmaroke get so good-tempered? Under the pitch-black burqa, Meldre's iron-gray eyebrows were entwined like two tightly twisted chains, "It's probably not a coincidence, it's likely that the Inquisition sent to hunt my hounds." β
"Why are you so sure?"
"Loki is dead?" Meldra was succinct, "Yogget's hand." β
"What? Teacher, heβ" a great shock and sorrow rose in the Black Knight's voice, "When?" β
"On the night that Sir Dalyan died in Wallombray, Loki's body was found in the lower city. Yogett gouged out his eyes. The Knights of Dawn were almost mad with joy at getting his corpse. They held a funeral for him at the stake. β
"After all these years, I thought JΓΆggott had given up on that crazy idea. I didn't expect him to really do it to the teacher. The Black Knight whispered, "Your Excellency, do you think he leaked your whereabouts?" β
"Isn't it him?" "Joggette is stubborn, believing that the priests other than him are stubborn old stubborns, and that we are hindering him from establishing a religious pure land for the goddess. He wants to kill us as soon as possible. Who else but Yogett would know that I went to Liberty City to find Lofel? He has been in charge of the priesthood for many years, and his methods are something that even I admire. Almost the entire Great Central Plains is under his watch, and I can't hide it from him. β
"Do you want me to take someone to deal with this killing team?" The Black Knight asked, "They can't stay in Poimpur all the time." β
"There's no need." "If Yoguette thinks that this hunting party will leave me too exhausted to take care of him, then he is very wrong. I never wanted to deal with him all the time - no, I actually admired him and his ideas. β
"Why, sir? During his lifetime, the teacher hated Yogget's behavior of realizing his ambitions in the name of faith. β
"And that's what I admire about him β don't get me wrong. Loki is impeccable as a follower of the goddess, but he is clearly a bit derelict in his duties as the chief priest who governs the West Coast. Faith can blind him and make him settle for the status quo β I may have a disagreement with Yogett, but we are all thinking about the same thing: how can we better serve the Goddess? I chose to sacrifice the whole of the North, and Yogett, he wanted to build an ideal kingdom for the Goddess. A smile appeared on Meldere's face, "It's a very energetic idea." If it hadn't been for the fact that his first attempt ended in a fiasco, maybe I would have supported him, in fact, everyone supported him back then. β
The Black Knight nodded silently. He was a Death Knight at the same time as Yoggett, and he was also involved in that megalomaniacal scheme. They were close to success. But at the last step of the ceremony, the noisy came in a godlike posture and robbed the emperor's coffin. They were defeated, and only four of the twelve priests survived.
Meldrey looked down the mountain and frowned, "What did he want to do when he summoned the Honorary Guards at this time?" β
The blood-stained white wolf skin spread out in the man's broad palm. The wolf leaned in front of the man, sniffed with his nose, and raised his head to let out a long, mournful howl. The strong men in white wolf skins hung their heads one after another, mourning in silence for their fallen comrades. "This is the white wolf skin of Anthony Muer, may his soul go to the top of the Misty Peak and enjoy the privilege of hunting with the gods." The man swept the crowd with gray eyes, and his tone gradually became harsh: "This was handed over to me by his daughter." A group of mercenaries has desecrated the traditions of the Misty Mountains by killing Anthony Mur and seizing his wolf skin, only to pretend to have defeated him and swagger across the border right under your noses. β
The strong men became restless, and hideous green tendons burst out on their foreheads: "Kill them!" They roared.
"Tell me, Lord Divine Messenger, how are you going to find a team of mercenaries in the middle of nowhere? Loot every village, raid every castle, or take every town? A hoarse voice like a crow rang out behind the man. Meldrey walked slowly behind the man: "There will always be sacrifices in war, and the divine envoy will not even have this awareness, right?" β
"I thought that as a devout believer, you would understand their anger at this time." "And according to credible information, the mercenaries are destined for Poynbru." β
There was no expression on Meldere's old face: "They are soldiers first, then believers. The Divine Envoy should understand that now is not the best time to attack. Livingston hadn't even begun to mobilize their troops. β
"When did I say I was going to attack?" The man untied the huge battle axe from behind his back, rolled over and rode on the giant wolf.
"I'm just taking them out hunting and venting."
"Then I can provide a great hunting target for the Divine Envoy."
The man turned his head and gave Meldrey a surprised look: "Oh, who is it?" β
"The Earl of Bogdan of Livingston is now on his way to Boynbru with his troops."
β¦β¦
"My lord, are you really not going to stop them?" The Black Knight watched the Honor Guards huddle the giant wolf away, worried.
"Since he doesn't plan to mobilize an army to go out of the nest, then I have no reason to stop him." Meldra rubbed his brow vigorously, "Dance with the wolf, let it go first." β
"But how many men did he take, thirty? Forty? How dare he really go to trouble with a regular army? β
"Not to find trouble, but to hunt." "Robb, you have not been in the North for long, and you have not seen the heroic appearance of the Omenwolf in battle under the city of Boimbru. But I was there at the time. I saw how the man, who had been hungry for three days and three nights, overwhelmed Lista. If he hadn't been determined to fight to the death, even the fierce dogs and iron bears wouldn't have been able to keep him. A grim smile appeared on Meldre's face, "I'm just worried about whether the rabble under Bogdan will satisfy the appetite of this generation of Omenwolves!" β
