Tell us about the Cthulhu Mythos and what this book is about
The "Cthulhu Mythos" was born because modern human beings have painfully discovered that human beings are so small compared to the universe that we may not even be able to fly out of the galaxy by thinking about the universe and the future of mankind. There may be unknown extraterrestrial civilizations in the universe, they may be many dimensions higher than us humans, and the more humans try to contact them, the more likely they are to self-destruct prematurely.
Originally created by American novelist Howard Philip Lovecraft, "The Cthulhu Mythos" is a series of horror novels, also known as the "Arkham Tales", which were originally fragmented and fragmented. His friend Auguste William Dresser compiled and perfected on his foundation, and later many novelists added new content, and finally became a relatively independent system of alternate myths.
I will briefly introduce the internal relationship of this mythological system.
Lovecraft believed that before the birth of many extraterrestrial planets and terrestrial life, there was already a powerful class of masters in the universe, known as the "Old Ones", whose ontologies took a variety of strange forms, such as irregular lumps of flesh, monsters, and even gases or planets.
The Outer Gods are the oldest and most powerful beings among the Old Rulers, living at the edge of the universe, even the edge of the multiverse.
Lovecraft also set up that in many planets, including Earth, there were later "old gods", and the old gods and the old rulers were hostile.
He also set up the "Old Gods", believing that the Old Gods and the Old Rulers may be in a hostile relationship, and that the Old Gods sealed or expelled the Old Rulers and put them into a deep sleep.
Where do the old rulers sleep?
Sleeping on many planets, one of the most famous old dominants is "Cthulhu", which hides at the bottom of the South Pacific Ocean on our planet and is said to be a little afraid of "fishing boats".
The above is the general relationship of the Cthulhu Mythos, the old gods and the old gods are the sworn enemies of the old rulers.
But the original creators and later authors sometimes confuse the old gods with the old gods, so that you can't tell whether the old gods and the old gods are the same kind of gods? In short, it is very confusing and contradictory, and you can't even tell if the old gods and the old rulers are the same people? Many later novelists licked and added it according to their own understanding, plus the later Cthulhu Run group game......
I'm not going to do that, and I'm not qualified to do it, I'm just writing a "Cthulhu-like" online fantasy novel.
The rest of Cthulhu's content is pretty bits and pieces, and this part is actually a bit low.
The Old Rulers who are able to visit or hide on Earth will have fanatical human believers, who will kidnap others as sacrifices to the Old Ones, and then attract the curiosity of the investigators, and various evil gods will summon, shoot, die, be sacrificed, and escape......
In short, the stories on Earth are basically very low horror stories, far from being fantasy works. Because humanity is too small to ever defeat the Old Dominator and its dependents, it can only live in boundless fear and despair, waiting to be finally wiped out like ants. This perfectly embodies our human fear of the unknown universe.
But what if it happened on another planet? That might be a lot more interesting.
According to the original creator's premise, there are other alien life species in the universe, whose civilization is many times more powerful than that of earth humans, and their old rulers there are relatively stronger. There can be all kinds of magic, all kinds of scrolls, all kinds of magic weapons, all kinds of lawlessness and easy to be harmonized plots that you can't imagine.
I'll casually tell you a more typical "alien Cthulhu story".
Usually the whole planet is like a fiery purgatory, with many strange giant crystals floating in the sky, the whole planet is twisted and deformed everywhere, and various buildings or mountains and rivers are presented in a state of distortion and deformation that cannot be understood by humans. The buildings and mountains in the distance are upside down and deformed, and the people are also upside down, making people think that this place was once a terrifying alien battlefield.
Then there are all kinds of strange alien creatures, including humans, zergs, orcs, and even air mass creatures. Because it was once an ancient battlefield, they had great combat power, could summon evil gods, had ancient scrolls, had spells, had huge bodies, and even some alien creatures were so powerful that they could be petrified or vaporized at a glance......
Those giant crystals in the sky were actually the magic weapons used to seal the old rulers. Suddenly, one day, a giant crystal drops, and the terrifying Old Dominator awakens.
Then the whole planet is plunged into a scuffle, and the surrenderers become believers in the Old Dominators, for whom they can only survive until the last moment before they die, and the Old Dominators will eventually devour the creatures of the entire planet, leaving no armor behind, not even a pair of underwear.
That's when there are heroes, they may be descendants of the Old Gods, or descendants of the Old Gods and humans, or they may be descendants of alien creatures and the Old Dominators, you know......
Since the Old Rulers could have been sealed before, there is always a way to seal them again, or even kill them, or even flee to another planet and kill them back in the future......
The story that takes place on an alien planet can be called a fantasy work.
Alas, so, our earth is still too low.
Under the same Cthulhu Mythos system, the earth is just a few little horror stories of cats and dogs, and even if the most powerful outer gods appear, they are forcibly lowered and pretended to be spoofed in a very low way, so it is not worth touting.
Well, now that you have a general idea of what the Cthulhu Mythos is all about, this book will not copy this system to write the plot, because that would be too low, I am not interested in it at all, and you must not be too lazy to read it.
Of course, some Cthulhu lovers insist that Cthulhu novels must insist that "no matter how much humanity struggles and resists, it must eventually accept boundless fear and despair, and humanity will eventually be destroyed". This type of Cthulhu enthusiast is actually the "Earth Cthulhu faction", which is essentially a lover of horror novels and the most devout fans of the Cthulhu Mythos.
We're going to write "Cthulhu-like fantasy novels", not planetary stories, and not horror novels.
We weren't really interested in the scary Cthulhu monsters, because they weren't the focus of the writing. In fantasy novels, "blood, violence, and monsters" are the lowest things, and almost all fantasy novels will have the kind of monsters in the Cthulhu Mythos. We are more interested in how to present the "unknown and fear" in the face of monsters, making it more real and interesting, rather than mechanically upgrading and fighting monsters.
We are most interested in the core of the Cthulhu Mythos - "human beings are so small, but we are full of awe and interest in the future of humanity and the unknown universe", especially the study of "unspeakable fears", wanting to touch them without wanting to be destroyed by them, and some unsolved mysteries left by the original authors.
The Old Gods, as described by Lovecraft as the original creator, hardly appear in any Cthulhu novels, because most of these foreign novelists are horror fiction writers and do not like to write stories beyond the earth. So, where the hell did the Old Gods go? Is it also in the same slumber as the old rulers? And where did the "old gods" that the original creator said go? Has it been wiped out by the old rulers?
Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct the Cthulhu Mythos, starting with the planet that Shen Xing crossed to, and unravel all the mysteries step by step.
Are the Demon Gods the descendants of the Old Dominators? Do they retain the defining characteristics of their ancestors? Or did it interact with the creatures on the planet and eventually lead to another evolutionary path?
The goddess of the night, the goddess of harvest, the god of war, and the god of killing...... Are they the "old gods" of the Cthulhu mythos, and are these ancient gods from ancient times or from us humans?
If it is from us humans, then do we ordinary people also have a chance to become "ancient gods"? If this path fails, is it possible for human beings to actively evolve themselves into high-dimensional beings like the old rulers by accelerating evolution? If you don't have it, can you have extraordinary abilities like other alien creatures?
The planet where Shen Xing is located now is somewhat similar to the earth, does it mean that tens of millions of years ago or even hundreds of millions of years ago, there was a place in the universe that gave birth to and gave birth to us humans, but later because of wars or disasters, human beings were scattered around the universe?
Could it be the so-called "old gods" who created us humans? How did the Old Gods and the Old Rulers come into being, and are they the same race?
Finally, what is the need for small humans to be able to stand up to the Old Dominators, and have the Old Gods left us a chance to escape?
Most of the problems I've mentioned above are puzzles left behind by the original author, Lovecraft, and his buddy Dresser (not later novelists, who didn't explain the mysteries either).
