Act 137. The law of the elements
The law of the elements?
If Reiner's previous paper on electromagnetic fields and new elements and radioactivity is a complete and practical study, then the paper on the laws of the elements sounds so attractive.
Because as Reiner said, almost all of the high-ranking mages here have been involved in this aspect of research, and in the eyes of many of them, the laws that can be found between the elements have been thoroughly studied, and it is difficult to make breakthrough innovations, especially after Lord Stenion proposed the idea of arranging the elements according to their relative masses, and many mages even thought that this was the final answer.
So, now that Reiner has come up with his own treatise on the laws of the elements, these high-ranking mages are not optimistic about their preconceived notions.
Even Pluto looked at President Dmitry with questioning eyes, not quite understanding.
"Reiner. Ian Gray, before you explain this paper on the laws of the elements, I have a very polite question to ask, that is, have you read the recent paper on the laws of the elements published by Lord Stenion? ”
Lord Broly, who was sitting next to Pluto, asked, and Reiner smiled and replied.
"Actually, of course, I think that His Excellency Stenion's method of arranging elements according to their relative masses is very close to the essence of the laws of the elements, and that its periodicity is a brilliant idea, and my own paper is based on the ideas of His Excellency Stagion."
Broly didn't speak, just nodded and motioned for Reiner to continue.
"First of all, I think it is necessary to give you an intuitive understanding of the elements I arrange, let's take a look at this table."
Reiner motioned to President Dmitry, who waved his hand and projected Reiner's array of elementals into the air.
It's a not-so-aesthetically looking form, with many gaps in the space, and while the order after removing the gaps is largely indistinguishable from Lord Stanion's Table of Elements, in several cases, it appears in opposite positions.
"It's not pretty."
Eagles. Field said that the vacancy on the table seemed to tell everyone that there were more unknown elements in this world that had not yet been discovered, which made the mages feel a little entangled in their hearts.
For the sake of contrast, Reiner asked for a projection of Lord Stanion's table of elements, which was much more neat, with few gaps, and was pleasing to the eye.
"First of all, in the process of measuring the relative mass of the element, one of my students found that there is a non-negligible error between the measured value of the 'Burren' element and the accepted value, and I and she later collected the same elements from all over the world for measurement, and found that this phenomenon is common in all elements, and through the experiment of the previous paper, we can know that this phenomenon of the same element but the mass of the relative element is different, that is, the isotope exists in almost all elements."
Reiner spoke as if he were listening to him not from the academic authorities, but from the students of Crescent Academy who were hungry for knowledge.
He also mentioned several elements and isotopes with similar relative mass, and it can be seen that even though the relative elements are similar in mass, different elements still have completely different properties.
"Since there are isotopes, the relative mass of the elements is not the root cause of the difference between elements."
Reiner's words caused the mages to ponder, indeed, the existence of isotopes causes the same element to exhibit different relative elemental masses, so the ordering of elements by Lord Stenion relying on relative elemental masses is questionable, at least, there are inexplicable flaws.
"It was because of this that I thought there was a problem with the ordering of the elements of Lord Stenion, and I started to optimize it."
He showed some tables, which were some of the data for some elements with relatively light elemental masses that Reiner had obtained after accelerating using the electromagnetic circle.
"My original paper relied only on the similarity of the properties of the elements to arrange and leave gaps, but after learning about the electromagnetic separation circle, I conducted a series of experiments, and because I learned that the elements contain electrons and that the flow of electrons can separate these electrons, I repeatedly bombarded the same element with the flow of electrons, trying to separate all the electrons it contains."
Reiner first pointed to the Hydra element, which is based on the electric charge of electrons, and the ratio of the relative elemental mass to the charge is about 1, which means that the Hydra element should contain one electron.
Similarly, the Carbran element with a relative element mass of 12 has a mass-to-charge ratio of 2, that is, it contains six electrons.
"Although there is a certain amount of error in such an experiment, I believe that if we use a more sophisticated instrument to test it, we will get the same result."
Reiner said that his experimental idea was quite ingenious, and the high-ranking mages bowed slightly.
"I define the charge charge of the elements as the number of nuclear charges, and from here it follows that the arrangement of the elements should be arranged according to the number of nuclear charges, so I have sorted the elements according to the number of nuclear charges, and at the same time left some gaps, because the number of nuclear charges of the elements before and after these gaps is not continuous."
He also showed the new elements discovered by Fina's father and compared them with his own periodic table.
"As you can see, since the nuclear charge number of the element 'Crolin' is 17, and the nuclear charge number of the element 'Kayla' is 19, I deduce that there is another element in it, and since the element 'Kayla' is extremely active, and the element 'Cloring' is relatively inactive, so I think this new element should also be an element of extremely inactive alchemical nature, and from the morphological point of view, it should be a gas, which is the element found through the electromagnetic separation array."
The mages searched for the laws of the elements, not only to classify the existing elements, but also to deduce the laws of the properties of the elements, and to lay the basis for finding new elements in the future, and Reiner's periodic table happened to successfully predict the new elements!
This is the elemental order that mages dream of!
"Wait a minute, Mr. Ian Gray."
Pluto's address to Reiner had changed, and he raised a hand to interrupt Reiner's speech slightly.
"If you follow your periodic table, there should be one more element between the element 'Flolin' with a nuclear charge number of 9 and the element 'Sodeon' with a nuclear charge number of 11, right?"
Hearing Pluto's words, Reiner smiled slightly.
"Yes, Lord Oakland, there should also be an inert element here that is inactive in alchemical nature, and this is also detailed in my paper, this element should be a gas, with a relative elemental mass of about 20, and at the same time, it can emit colored light when it is electrified."
Reiner showed the pages on which he had made his prophecy, and then, looking around at the high-ranking mages, he whispered.
"We can find that element here."
The crowd was in an uproar.
