Act 124. Diary (Part II)

In the year 2299 of the lunar calendar, the moon of the falling star, the fifteenth, cloudy.

Two things happened today.

The first was that I was finally accepted into the Newington Institute as a fellowship, which is a coveted opportunity for many mages!

But that's nowhere near as important to me as the second thing.

That's Teresa pregnant.

Oh my God, we're going to have kids!

In the past, I used to think that children were very annoying, ignorant and troublemakers, but now, I think they are so cute and innocent.

We've decided that if it's a boy, it's going to be called Philo, and if it's a girl, it's going to be Fina.

This is definitely my second most precious treasure in this world.

As for the first precious, of course, Teresa.

......

The year 2299 of the lunar calendar, the moon of the falling star, the twentieth day, rain.

The doctor said Teresa's condition was not optimistic.

The baby has an extremely rare disease, which is extremely repulsive to all magic, and in short, the baby is likely to die if he is in a magical environment.

What's more, the disease also affects Teresa, who is now completely unable to use magic.

The disease persists after birth and does not gradually subside as it grows after the age of seven, and there is currently no way to treat it in the early stages, but to wait for time to recover.

Doctors believe that this may be related to Teresa's mining accident two years ago, which has been affected by a large number of magic crystals for a long time, which can easily lead to body lesions, and this change may be subtle and completely unpredictable.

If we were to keep Teresa and the baby alive, we would have to go to a place where magic would be as free as possible, but then I wouldn't be able to work at Newington Institute, or even for years to come.

What am I going to do?

......

In the year 2299 of the lunar calendar, the moon of the falling star, the 28th, rain.

I met Oliver today, and I haven't seen him for almost two years since I graduated.

I didn't talk to him about myself, he told me a lot about himself.

After graduating, he worked as an alchemist in a large alchemy workshop, and recently got close to a female colleague who took office in the same year, and he came to me to ask for advice on how to get along with girls.

I kind of hate the world, why I have to lose everything since I was a child, why I can't have an ordinary life.

I don't want to be a high-level mage right now, I don't want my name to be a household name, I just want Teresa and our children to be safe.

But it seems to have turned into a luxury.

......

In the year 2299 of the lunar calendar, the month of frost, six days, rain.

I searched for a long time and found that there seems to be a special mineral in the record that can slow down the effects of this disease, but it is only an isolated case, and there is no data to support it.

But that's our only hope.

Soon, I found out that there were very few reserves of this particular mineral, and that only the Sur Mountains had ever been found in the main plane.

The Sur Mountains, looking at this familiar name, I felt a little emotional, and as a result, the hometown I had spent twenty years trying to escape from was my only hope now.

It's time to decide.

......

The year 2299 of the lunar calendar, the month of the dragon's sleep, the 30th day, snow.

I eventually quit my job at Newington Institute, and while the adults were willing to keep my position open, I don't know how long it would take me to get back here.

The baron who rules the town of Sur has a job as a magical advisor, and I think I can work part-time, and more importantly, I need to find the ore in the Sur Mountains that can heal Teresa.

For a mage, I was cutting off my future, and I confess that there were moments when I thought about leaving Teresa and the child behind and going on on my own, but when I saw her back in her apron and busy in the kitchen, all these distractions were gone.

I will protect her until death, is there anything more worthy of protection in this world?

......

In the year 2300 of the lunar calendar, the month of the wolf, the seventeenth, rain.

During this time, I had been looking for minerals in the Sur Mountains while Teresa waited for production.

We built a tower far from the town and lived, and luckily the Baron allowed me to take care of Teresa at home and work by correspondence.

Teresa gave birth in the early evening and was a girl.

But at the same time, the strange disease also worsened, and Teresa gave her last strength to our daughter, miraculously alleviating her illness, but it also meant that she no longer had the strength to live.

Teresa held my hand and told me to protect our children.

Our daughter, Fina.

......

In the year 2307 of the lunar calendar, the month of red leaves, nine days, sunny.

Fina was a little unhappy today, and she was still wet, maybe the people in the town were bullying her again.

If I could, I would burn those bastards to death one by one, but I had no way to teach them a lesson, and if I used magic at will, not only would Fina lose her father, but it would also be very likely to induce the kind of strange disease in her, so I could only tell Fina not to go out normally.

Although Fina's illness has been reduced a lot, as long as there is a slight flow of magic energy, it will still have a serious backlash, and I lied to her that it was a fever, and I didn't ask Phyllis to tell her the real situation, because I didn't want her to feel different from the others.

In this case, I couldn't use magic, and even my research was stuck on paper.

I didn't find that kind of ore in the Sur Mountains, but I had a new idea, using the theory of Lord Newington, that charged particles could be deflected in a magnetic field, in order to sieve out certain particles, different particles have completely different properties for different matter, and I hope to find a particle that can cure Fina's illness without harming her body.

......

In the year 2310 of the lunar calendar, the month of the hidden gods, the ninth day, snow.

Yesterday, Fina showed her magical talent for the first time, which meant that she had been completely cured of her illness, but it was not my effort, but a natural cure over time.

Phyllis persuaded me to send Fina to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and it is true that she may never be able to get out of the outside world in an environment like Sur, but I was still a little worried that her illness would return, and finally, I decided to observe for another year.

The theoretical part of my new idea has been perfected, but the experimental equipment required is a bit cumbersome, and I need to prepare for it for a longer time.

......

In the year 2311 of the lunar calendar, the month of the hidden gods, the 19th, sunny.

Fina hadn't had any more magical reactions in the past year, and Phyllis examined her body to make sure that the terrible illness had been completely cured.

I thought, it's time to send her out into the world.

Maybe she'll resent me and don't understand what I'm doing, but that's okay, I just want her to grow up healthy and have her own life.

As for me, something strange has happened in the Sur Mountains lately, and many creatures have died inexplicably, and I need to investigate this.

And it's not meaningless to treat Fina's magic, and there will definitely be similar cases in the future, so I can't give up research for the sake of the happiness of those families.
