Volume 2 Exotic Rise Section 6 Exploring the Dungeon at Night
The New York City Metro (NYCSUB.) is the urban rail transit system of New York City, which has been in operation for 112 years, and is the oldest and largest subway system in the world, and one of the top ten most famous subway lines in the world.
When it comes to the New York subway, it can be said that it is full of New York citizens' hatred (ài) hatred (qíng), because of its large scale, many stations, long lines, and because of poor management, the health of most stations is worrying, and it is full of homeless homeless people at night.
New Yorkers can sit down with you and talk all day about the things that happened on the subway, and finally add: Lao Tzu misses more stations than you have ever sat right in your life!
Sometimes, due to the realignment of the subway or the poor operation of the subway company, some subway stations will be abandoned, and these unattended station buildings will become independent and private underground spaces, and some people with ideas will wrap up the station buildings and transform them into art galleries, dance halls or secret laboratories. This is also a special feature of Western society, which is very rare in China.
The place where Red Lotus wants to take them is a very special one of the New York subway lines, called the "Freedom Tunnel".
Located beneath Riverside Park, the tunnel was built in 1930 by Robert Moses and abandoned shortly after its completion, and then became a haven for homeless people who set up their base camp in this underground shelter.
However, what everyone doesn't know is that down the Freedom Tunnel, a hundred meters underground, there is an urban space that is larger than a small town. New York's first mutants lived there!
In the 50s of the 20th century, the status of mutants in American society was very low, and humans regarded them as heretics and completely exterminated them. As a result, the exposed mutants had to leave their homes and hide in the dark sewers, and eventually spread the word of mouth and entered the dungeons through various channels. They named the mutant's new home "Morlocks", which means "Discord", and was led by the "βBeta" mutant Callisto.
Molok is just like what its name suggests, there is no actual class system established, and their social laws are more akin to street gangs, where strength is honored. Because there is no sunlight and resources are scarce in the dungeons, they sometimes climb to the ground from manhole covers to steal furniture, food, clothing, and other necessities of life. What may be stolen is only a drop in the bucket after all, and it can't satisfy the huge mutant race to reproduce and live here, so the people here are inevitably a little malnourished, and the fertility rate is very low.
Prior to the '90s, Morlock was largely responsible for the poor law and order situation in the New York area.
Later, when the two major factions of mutants, the X-Men and the Brotherhood, began to rise, Professor X visited Morlock and offered to help settle them on the surface. However, the Moroks, accustomed to living underground away from the crowds, rejected it, believing that only the underworld was a suitable place for them to hide (shēn). However, Professor X's words still made the mutants who have been living underground for decades see the changes in society, and understand that the current human policy towards mutants is much more relaxed, and the frequency of returning to the surface has greatly increased. This is a good thing, and it provides a powerful help for the Moroks to return to the ground and blend in with the crowd in the future.
Later, during a meeting, Callisto (ài) met with a member of the X-Men, Warren "Angel" Worthington III. However, she has long been unaccustomed to the modern way of interacting with people, so she follows the tào of Morlock, kidnaps the angel to the dungeon, and prepares to borrow seeds from him to have offspring. Luckily, the X-Men Vice-Captain "Storm" Auroro arrived in time, and the two fought one-on-one according to Morlock's tradition, and Stormgirl won in the end, and since then, Callisto has lost his position as leader, and all the Moroc people have regarded Stormgirl as the new leader.
Yīn became the boss of Morok, and her first order was to disband the "Morok" and ask everyone to leave the underground and try to integrate into society. It was at the height of anti-war sentiment in the United States, and a piece of information that had been withheld for years was confirmed that the Cuban Missile Crisis was finally resolved by mutants, so Americans and mutants at that time were in their honeymoon phase and welcomed the arrival of the Morlocks. This is the first great fusion of human and mutant races in history, and it is a big event that deserves special mention.
Of course, it wasn't until decades later that the real perpetrator of Kennedy's assassination was revealed, and the relationship between the two races was once again plunged into a harsh winter, but that was for another time.
With the marrow of underground mutants perfectly solved, this tunnel filled with homeless people, stowaways, and fugitives can finally be completely cleaned. In 1991, Amtrak bulldozed the temporary shack area and reopened the tunnel. Almost no one knows what happened to the thousands of homeless people who were evicted from this tunnel, and New Yorkers never cared about their thoughts anyway.
"I don't think you're very old, how do you know these things so clearly?" After listening to Honglian's narration, Luo Zhijian asked strangely.
"That's because Callisto joined the Brotherhood, and she's a friend of mine, so she told me a lot about Morlock."
"Uh... Callisto didn't follow the X-Men? ”
"Not all mutants agree with Professor Charles's tào theory, and in addition to entering society incognito, a large part of Morlock's people also came to the Brotherhood. Besides, Callisto is a very strong person, she lost to Storm, and of course she won't go to X Academy. ”
That's right, if it were him, he probably wouldn't have the face to go, Liu Zheng thought to himself. Seeing that the car was heading toward the Hudson River, he asked, "After all that you have said about Morlock, do you think this earthquake came from the dungeon?" ”
"Chances are, I've heard Calisto say that the Dungeon of Morlock wasn't built by them, but existed long before the first mutants discovered it. Did you know that until Morlock was disbanded, there were still many areas of the dungeon that had not been explored? Honglian paused, and then said, "Haven't you heard that the depth of the epicenter of this earthquake is less than 100 meters above the ground, which coincides with the depth of the dungeon. ”
Liu Zheng and Luo Zhijian glanced at each other, and it seemed that the news that Tracy heard finally spread among the people.
"Alright, we're here."
At this time, they heard Red Lotus beckoning the driver to stop, and they arrived outside a park near the Hudson River in Greenwich West Village, and it was the middle of the night, and there was not a single pedestrian around. The trio pushed open the dilapidated gate and entered, the park had fallen into disrepair, untended trees growing with teeth and claws, and the grass on the ground was knee-high. They followed the winding stone path to the depths of the park, stopping in front of a dilapidated subway passageway.
"The Freedom Tunnel is now part of Line 1, and we can't get in with the crowds. These are one of the few subway entrances that are not open, and we can walk from here and go down to Morlock. Red Lotus said as she walked towards the dark passage first.
Liu Zheng called him behind his back, and Honglian turned around, only to see Liu Zheng and Luo Zhijian staring at him with burning eyes. Honglian understood it, laughed at herself, and said, "It's okay if you believe it, or if you don't believe it." It turns out that I do have Chinese blood, and I have long made a vow that I will never hurt any Chinese from now on. ”
"I'm sorry, I hope we're too careful. But as we have learned, we don't dare to easily believe what mutants say. ”
Red Lotus said angrily: "Then what do you think you want, can't you go to the dungeon!" ”
Liu Zheng was silent for a moment and said, "You make a promise to me here, I have my own way to prove what you said."
The words are not true. ”
Honglian suppressed her anger and roared: "I'm also a triad's double-flowered red stick, and I still understand the rules of the rivers and lakes." In this way, if I say half a lie today, and have the slightest bad intentions towards you, let me be punished with three swords and six holes, and I will be a slave forever and cannot be turned over (shēn), so it's okay! ”
After saying that, he didn't care what the two of them reacted to, turned his head and stretched out towards the passage.
Liu Zheng's eyes were as bright as stars, and he looked at the back of the red lotus without blinking, knowing that he was about to disappear into the darkness underground, so he followed with a move. Luo Zhijian touched him with his elbow and handed over an inquiring look, Liu Zheng didn't speak, only nodded slightly.
The entrance of the passage sloped downward, and the light of the street lamp quickly disappeared behind theirs, but Liu Zheng and his two had night vision, so they were not worried about not being able to see the scene below. The walls on both sides of the tunnel are covered with graffiti and slogans, suggesting that it was once a noisy settlement.
The three of them walked a few hundred meters along the abandoned underground railroad tracks, and Honglian checked the surrounding (qíng) conditions, fumbled and opened a heavy iron door on the wall and walked in.
This room is small, full of wrenches, hammers and other miscellaneous items, and it seems to be a place used by subway maintenance workers to store tools. Red Lotus pulled down the hood from her head, her hair braided and waved, wrapping around a tall tool cabinet by the wall and moving to the side, revealing a boxy manhole cover on the floor. Honglian pulled up the manhole cover, and below it was a black hole that was less than a meter so far, Liu Zheng looked inside, and the pitch-black metal pipe was bottomless, and he didn't know where it led.
Honglian took the lead in getting in, glared back at the two of them, and said angrily, "If you are afraid, don't follow." He let go of his hand and disappeared into the hallway.
"Damn, I'm afraid of him!"
Luo Zhijian was originally stupid and bold, and he was extremely confident in his own gluttonous (shēn), how could he be provoked by the red lotus, and he got into it without saying a word.
Liu Zheng took a deep breath, looked at the deep passage steadily, forcibly suppressed the uneasiness of going to an unknown place, and finally closed his eyes and jumped down.
The metal pipes are so slippery that you can't get anywhere to do with your hands and feet on the walls. The whining wind whistled in his ears, and the violent sense of weightlessness made Liu Zheng raise his heart to his throat, but fortunately, Luo Zhijian's shouting not far below brought him some sense of security.
Although Liu Zheng is reluctant to admit it, it is a fact that he suffers from claustrophobia, perhaps because the disappearance of his parents brought him (yīn) when he was a child, he is afraid of empty rooms, or places where he can't see his fingers, and now this situation of not being able to keep his feet on the ground also makes him very insecure.
He didn't know how long he had been sliding down, and he never waited for the exit, Liu Zheng decided to distract himself, he closed his eyes, and forced himself to imagine the current scene as when he practiced the power of the dragon, the scene when the whole person sank into the sea of consciousness, the feeling of no heaven and no earth, no east and no west, was very similar to now.
For a few seconds, Liu Zheng was really immersed in his own little world, but then his eyes suddenly widened.
What is the condition of the groove (qíng)?
What was that?
At that moment of sinking, he actually sensed a strange aura, it felt very strange, and it felt very familiar, he wanted to savor it, but there was nothing to follow...
"Oops... Oh! ”
Luo Zhijian's screams and the sound of heavy objects falling to the ground were heard in his ears, Liu Zheng was secretly prepared, and a few seconds later he rushed out of the pipe and landed firmly on the ground.
Luo Zhijian patted the dust on his stock and stood up, and Liu Zheng was so shocked that he couldn't speak.
They stood on the horizontal roof of the house. With this room as the center, a huge underground city unfolded before their eyes, stretching out into the distance, as far as the eye could see.
This is the utopia of New York's mutants, the Mollock Dungeon!
