City of Souls

"Welcome to the City of Souls. The two of you are 070 and 260 respectively, and your mission is to dig ore in A3 area, and find at least five baskets of ore before the bell rings every day, otherwise there will be no food. A black-clad elf waved his whip, "Go now!" β
070 and 260 looked at each other in confusion and were chased to work.
In Area A3, countless elves are transporting baskets of ore, their faces are expressionless, their expressions are dull, and they are just constantly busy.
"Excuse me, what are you doing," 070 stopped a grizzled elf, "where are you going to transport this cart of stones?" β
The elf was small, the size of a rabbit, and looked like a small pangolin. "You two are new here." He raised his right hand. He has a small bracelet on his wrist that says "062". "My name is Zero Sixty-two, and I'm a worker in Area A3, and I'm tasked with mining ore and sending it to the General Warehouse in Area A."
"Where is the warehouse?"
He pointed with his little finger.
070 and 260 glanced in the direction of his finger, "The red-roofed one?" β
"Yes."
"Thank you."
"The management elf of District A3 is 1850." 062 said, "Don't provoke him. With that, he pushed the cart away.
070 scratched his head, "One hundred and fifty zero? β
The black-clothed elf I saw when I first arrived, the number on his wrist seemed to be 1850.
"There are tools over there." 260 pointed.
The two newcomers were beaten up by a group of purple robots and thrown out of the warehouse because they were not proficient in using tools and did not have enough to mine 5 baskets of ore.
With a scar, 070 slowly sat down against a tree and looked at the elf who was kneading his arm beside him, "Hey, I forgot to ask." What's your name? β
"Twenty-sixty." He tilted his head to look at 070, "You're zero seventy, aren't you?" β
"Yes." 070 pursed his lips, smiled suddenly, and stretched out his hand to him: "Make a friend, 260?" β
260 raised eyebrows. "Alright! It's not impossible. He took 070's outstretched hand and shook it up and down.
"We can work together," 070 sat up straight, "enough for 10 baskets." In this case, if there are any special circumstances, it is good to take care of them. β
"Then don't hold me back." 260 folded his arms and curled the corners of his mouth, "I have mined more ore than you today." β
"You're just lucky!"
"Don't you believe in my strength?" 260 stood up with his feet on the ground and clenched his fists, "Let's compare? β
"Nope." 070 waved his hand.
"Haha, you're cowardly!"
"I'm just hungry." 070 leaned against the tree with his arms on his pillow and tilted his head to look at him, "It's better to save money and save some energy for tomorrow." β
260 And sat down beside him, and leaned against the tree. "Well, you say," 260 put one leg on the other, "have we seen each other somewhere before?" I think you look familiar. β
"Actually, I vaguely think so. But I've been here for as long as I can remember. 070 closed his eyes, "I'm a little tired, go to sleep first." β
"But it's still daytime."
"I asked the other workers, and the City of Souls is day and night, and everything is scheduled by the bells." 070's voice grew quieter, "I'm really going to sleep." β
260 didn't say anything more.
β¦β¦
The bell rang again. 070 rubbed his eyes and saw that 260 beside him was already moving.
"Twenty-six-zero," 070 said, "we do...... I've seen it somewhere, indeed. β
260 looked at him suspiciously. "But ......"
"I know." 070 stood up leaning on the tree and scratched his head, "I always feel like something is missing from my memory......"
260 folded his arms, "Then you suspect that you have amnesia?" β
070 nodded, then shook his head again. He looked at 260's red eyes and pursed the corners of his mouth. He closed his eyes, and a vast land dyed red by the afterglow of the setting sun appeared in front of him, and the other party's eyes soaked in sunlight and smiles.
He opened his eyes, and 260 was still looking at him suspiciously. "Otherwise, we'll talk about that later." He gestured to the elves who were already getting busy, "They're already getting to work." β
070 shrugged.
"Stop." The resounding voice of the manager 1850 resounded over the mines, "Something is announced. β
Workers cautiously gathered around.
"Zero-seven-zero," 260 told him on the ear, "One-eighteen-fifty-zero looks a little like you." β
"Really?" 070 touched his face, "I don't remember what I look like." β
1850 glared at them, and they immediately relented.
"The new battle for freedom will begin with the next bell ringing," 1850 said, standing on a high platform and looking down at the elves, "please do your best." With that, he jumped off the stage and left unhurriedly.
070 pondered 1850's red eyes and pouted. He touched 260 with his elbow, "What is the battle for freedom?" β
"I don't know. Just ask someone. 260 scratched his head, looked around, and saw 062 again. Belch, zero sixty-two! β
062 struggled to put a piece of ore into the cart, "Ah, what's wrong?" β
"What is that 1850's Freedom War?"
062 nimbly climbed up his shoulders and sat down on 070's legs, shaking his little feet, "Freedom War......"
"Every once in a while, the City of Souls will hold a battle for freedom," 062 pinched his chin, "The elves who participated in the battle killed each other, and the elf who managed to survive in the end can leave here." β
070 and 260 glanced at each other.
"Only one elf will survive?"
"Yes. All other elves who participate in the war will die. 062's tone was unexpectedly relaxed, "So, if not very strong and confident, there are no elves in the battle for freedom." β
"But," 062 adds, "it is said that 1850 fought several battles for freedom, and although he did not win, he did not die. β
"Because he's a manager?"
"Possibly, or maybe he quit halfway through. Also, I witnessed the battle of 1850, and he was a very powerful elf. 062 stretched, "Are you going to fight for freedom?" β
"I'm going to participate." 260 moved his wrist, "I don't want to stay here digging for some ore." β
070 pursed his lips, "Then I'll participate too." I don't feel like I belong here...... I'm going to look into it. β
"Then come on!" 062 slipped off 070's shoulder to the ground, "I'll go back to work." β
070 and 260 watched him leave.
