Chapter XXXVIII. Ursula Le Guin

"What?"

Liuyun couldn't believe what he heard.

The young doctor in front of him with a coffee cup looked about the same age as Liuyun.

But he looks like an unreliable man.

"Am I not doing the right thing? I thought I would be praised by you. โ€

Frustratedly, he crossed his legs, leaned back in his chair, stretched out his hand, alternating his fingers, and barely reached the handle of the coffee cup.

Liuyun's heart itched when he saw it, so he stood up helplessly and pushed the coffee cup in front of Mu Chun. I thought to myself, this person is really lazy, and he doesn't even bother to get up and take the coffee cup when he lies down.

Seeing Mu Chun lying down and taking a sip of coffee with acrobat-like movements, Liuyun felt more and more that he had a problem with his recent state, and he was probably looking for a reason not to sit in the study and work.

Although I know that it is impossible for a writer to maintain a good creative state every day, 365 days a year, it is impossible to be like a day for several years, not to get sick, not to encounter problems, and to write seriously every day in strict accordance with his work and rest.

But you can't waste time in a weird clinic with an even weirder doctor like this.

"You're really not going to praise me?"

Mu Chun, who was still crying after drinking coffee, asked Liuyun arrogantly, "Could it be that you really don't think it's interesting enough for me to do this, should I do it or something?" โ€

Liuyun shook his head, but said, "Okay, shouldn't I thank you." โ€

"Of course you have to thank me, you science fiction writers have to thank me."

Mu Chun raised her chin high, did she really think she was a tsundere princess?

Liuyun wanted to laugh but didn't want to laugh.

"That kind of person, even if he plagiarizes himself, he still comments indiscriminately under other people's novels, you say that I treat others the way they do, what's wrong?"

The person Mu Chun said was the reader who left a comment in Liuyun's novel "Dependent on Life" a few days ago, but he didn't expect Mu Chun to also read the novel and find the person who commented on it.

"This guy is still an author."

When Mu Chun said this, Liuyun was also taken aback.

It turned out to be an author.

I really didn't expect it at all.

"How did you come up with the idea to study this review?"

Liuyun still couldn't help but ask.

"I'm a reader, too."

Not really. Liuyun said in his heart.

After thinking about it, when Mu Chun talked about writer's habits a few days ago, he was really like a treasure, and casually said a lot of interesting things about the author.

Of course, it is also possible that he just happened to read some articles such as writers' reviews, and may not really be a person who likes to read.

There are a lot of such people now, and if they have nothing to do, they show how many books they have read in various forums or book comment areas, but in fact, they just understand the general content of some stories, and they may not have read a book in person.

For example, those famous works, "Dune", "Lord of the Flies", or "Fire in the Abyss......

Many people have heard of it, but how many have read it?

"Unexpectedly, I really found out, this person is actually an author, and I also found out that he has won some local science fiction essay awards."

"Won an award? So it's a well-known author? โ€

There are not many science fiction authors, and there are only a few essay competitions every year, if it is a grand prize winner, Liuyun has no reason not to know.

"You say he plagiarized?"

"Yes, plagiarism."

Mu Chun's categorical tone, Liuyun became more and more unconvinced.

"Plagiarism what? Domestic or foreign? โ€

"Abroad, do you know Ursula Le Guin?"

"You ask me if I know Ursula Le Guin? Just kidding, it's like you asking me if I know Liu Cixin and Asimov. โ€

"Well, you know that. Then let me ask you again, how many of you think domestic science fiction readers know about Ursula Le Guin? โ€

"Well, there really isn't much, the author should know better, readers, may not be too familiar with Le Guin's works, although she is the same as the author of "The Chronicles of Narnia" Cยท S. Lewis, and Tolkien, the great fantasy writer who wrote "The Lord of the Rings." โ€

"Do you think more people know more about Ursula Le Guin than about Tolkien and Asimov?"

"It must be Tolkien and Asimov, the "Base" series, the Three Laws of Robots, and "The Lord of the Rings", these are all familiar, but if Le Guin speaks, people who know her probably don't know as much as Asimov and Tolkien."

"That's right, so the author thought that no one would know that he plagiarized Le Guin's novel."

"But didn't the judges find out? And even won the prize? Maybe it's not plagiarism, it's just that the setting is somewhat similar, and these things are not uncommon, after all, it's not so easy to write new ideas that no one has written before. โ€

"Basically, no." Mu Chun sighed, "How can you write that completely refreshing novel now." โ€

"What did he copy? The Earthsea Legends series or The Left Hand of Darkness? โ€

Mu Chun shook his head, as if he had seen all these works, shook his head, and shook his head again.

"What's that? Could it be "The Words of the World Are Forests"? โ€

"Not really."

Liuyun doesn't know, is there really a problem with his memory recently? What else is there in Le Guin's work that he hasn't seen?

Liuyun couldn't figure it out, he was already struggling with his brain, and his forehead hurt a little.

"Do you know the novel "The Plane of Change?"

Liuyun's face turned red, how could he have forgotten this novel, this is a collection of short stories by Le Guin, a version published by Nova Press more than ten years ago, and every short story in this book is an experiment in a new method of writing.

Le Guin organically combines otherworldly travelogues and investigative reports of alien creatures in an elaborate format.

The book is full of Swiftian satire, and the fantasy part is similar to Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy......

Although "The Legend of Earthsea" is still one of the favorite fantasy novels of many teenagers abroad, this thin collection of short stories can be said to be a pearl when it comes to being amazing and wonderful.

But this book has long been unavailable, Liuyun has been looking for this book, but he has never bought it, and the second-hand bookseller has a price of more than 1,000 yuan a copy, which is really daunting for Liuyun.

Relying on the English proficiency of barely passing the sixth level of college English, Liuyun has read some English versions of this book, which are not complete, only a few of them.

I forgot about this book. It really shouldn't be.
