Chapter 37: The Centaurs and Mars
When Maca denies the existence of werewolves in the Forbidden Forest, Filch snorts.
"Who's to say no? For a long time in the past, the werewolf cry lingered, and that was a problem for all the students in the school at that time. He sneered.
As he spoke, Hagrid strode towards them from the darkness, Tooth and Tooth following. Hagrid carried his massive stone bow and a well-stocked quiver on his shoulder.
"It's almost time," he said, "and I've been waiting for half an hour." How's it going, Maka, Harry, Hermione? β
"They shouldn't be so polite, Hagrid," Filch said coldly, "after all, they're here to be punished. β
"That's why you're late, aren't you?" Hagrid frowned at Filch and said, "I've been teaching them a lesson, huh?" This is not the place for you to teach. Your task is accomplished, and from now on I am responsible. β
"I'll come back at dawn," Filch said, "to pick up their wreckage." β
He said viciously, then turned and walked towards the castle, the lamp staggering into the darkness.
At this point, Malfoy suddenly turned to Hagrid.
"I'm not going into that Forbidden Forest!" There was a hint of horror in his voice, which pleased Harry.
"If you still want to stay at Hogwarts, you have to go." Hagrid said mercilessly, "You've done something wrong, and now you have to pay the price." β
"The work done here is done by people, not by students. I thought we were writing and checking or something. If my dad knew I was doing this, he would-"
"He'll tell you that's what Hogwarts is." Hagrid said crudely, "Write check? What's in it for you? You've got to do something useful, or you're going to have to fuck off. If you think your father is willing to let you be expelled, go back to the castle and pack your bags and go! β
Seeing Malfoy staring at Hagrid hatefully for a moment, he finally lowered his gaze, and Hagrid continued to speak.
"Well," said Hagrid, "now listen carefully, what we have to do tonight is very dangerous, and I don't want to put anyone in danger. β
"Come with me firstβ"
He led them to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, held his lamp high, and pointed to a path that was gradually disappearing into the depths of the black forest.
"Look over there," said Hagrid, "do you see that shining thing on the ground?" Silver! That's the blood of a unicorn. One of the unicorns in the Forbidden Forest was injured by something, and it was badly injured. This is the second time this week. Last Wednesday I found one dead β we're going to try to find that poor unicorn and get it out of pain as soon as possible. β
"If you hurt the unicorn's ...... That thing, it found us first, what should we do? Malfoy asked, his voice filled with unquenchable fear.
"As long as you're with me or Toothtooth, no creature in the Forbidden Forest will hurt you." Hagrid said, "Don't leave the path! Alright, now we're going to split up and follow the bloodstains in two separate ways. There was blood everywhere, and apparently it had been stumbling and wandering around since at least last night. β
"I want teeth!" Malfoy seemed to be bewitched by the great hound's menacing exterior, and said busily.
"Okay, but let me warn you, it's a coward." Hagrid said, "Well, Malfoy, Neville, and Toothtooth go the same way, Maca, um...... Maka, why don't you go with Yaya? I think you can help me keep an eye on my teeth, so that it doesn't have to run back in fear. β
"Nope! Don't, that...... Mr. McLean, you go with them, our side...... That one...... No problem. "Malfoy's resistance to Maca is clearly no less than that of the Forbidden Forest.
"Well, then! Me, Maka, Harry, and Hermione, go one way. Hagrid nodded.
"If anyone finds a unicorn, they shoot a green spark, understand? Get your wands out and practice. By the way, if anyone is in trouble, shoot a red spark and we'll all come to you - okay, be careful, let's go. β
The dense canopy of the Forbidden Forest obscures most of the moonlight, making the forest appear rather dim. Even with a lantern in his hand, Hagrid could only illuminate a small area around him.
"Fluorescent flickering." Maca drew her wand, increasing the visibility around her.
"Thanks," said Hagrid, "it will allow us to look a little more closely." β
They walked a little further in until they reached a fork in the road, and the two groups began to move separately.
They walked silently, their eyes fixed on the ground. From time to time, you can see that there will be a silver blood stain on the fallen leaves on the ground, and there will be a faint blue glow in the light.
Maca, on the other hand, has stopped thinking about the Scroll of Truth, and if nothing else, something interesting should happen to her.
"Could it be that the werewolf killed the unicorn?" Harry asked.
"I haven't seen a werewolf here," said Hagrid, "but even if there werewolves, they wouldn't be so fast, and it's not easy to catch a unicorn." They're animals with a lot of magic, and I've never heard of unicorns being hurt before. β
They walked past a large, mossy stump where the murmuring of water could be faintly heard. Apparently, there was a stream somewhere nearby.
On the winding path, there are still scattered traces of unicorn blood.
"Are you alright, Hermione?" Hagrid asked in a low voice, "Don't worry, since it's so badly wounded, it's impossible to go very far, and we'll be able to - no, hide behind that tree soon!" β
Before Hagrid could say anything, Maca dragged Hermione into the bushes next to her. Hagrid glanced at Harry, and he grabbed Harry and carried him off the path, hiding behind a towering oak tree.
He drew one of his feathered arrows, mounted it on a stone bow, and raised it to be ready to shoot.
Immediately, Harry heard it too, and there seemed to be a rustling sound of something rubbing and dragging on the fallen leaves nearby. Hagrid squinted at the dark path, and after a few seconds, the sound faded away.
"I see," he muttered, "there's one thing that wasn't originally here. β
There was probably no one more familiar with the Forbidden Forest than Hagrid, and Maca was not at all surprised that he judged it so accurately.
"Werewolves?" Harry asked.
"Werewolves have average stamina, but their speed and explosiveness are very strong, and they won't drag on so much." Makara walked out of the bushes with Hermione and looked meaningfully into the dark depths of the Forbidden Forest.
"Maca is right." Hagrid affirmed, "Alright, come with me, be careful now." β
Just as they were moving more cautiously at a slower pace, they suddenly saw something moving in the clearing in front of them.
"Who's there?" Hagrid shouted, "Come out of hereβI've got a weapon!" β
"Hagrid, that's a centaur." Maca said.
The thing answered and walked into the clearingβa man from the waist up, with red hair and a beard; But below the waist is a shiny brown-red horse, with a long red tail dragging behind it.
Harry and Hermione's mouths opened in surprise.
"Oh, it was you, Ronan." Hagrid breathed a sigh of relief and said, "How are you?" β
He stepped forward and shook the horseman's hand.
"Good evening, Hagrid." Ronan said, his voice low and sad, "You want to shoot me with a bow and arrow?" β
"I'll have to be on my toes, Ronan," Hagrid said, patting his quiver, "there's a bad guy in this forest. Oh, by the way, this is Marka McKellen, Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger, students at that school above. Let me introduce you to you, this is Ronan, a centaur. β
"Hello, Ronan." Maca also stepped forward to shake his hand, "Nice to meet you." β
He'd always been interested in the centaurs' gift for prophecy, but it didn't help him much. Because in any case, prophecy is always vague and distorted by actual choices. So most of the prophecies can only be used as a reference, at least that's what Maca thinks.
"Hello," Ronan said, "are you students?" Did you learn a lot in school? β
"Knowledge is always learned." "Systematic teaching can enlighten students. β
"It's great for exploring the unknown." Ronan nodded.
With that, he shifted his gaze up and stared at the sky above the clearing, "Mars is bright tonight. β
"yes," Hagrid said, glancing up at the sky as well, "Listen to me, Ronan, I'm glad we met you, because one of the unicorns was woundedβdid you see anything?" β
Ronan stared up without blinking, and after a moment he sighed.
"It's always the innocent who suffer first." "It's been that way for hundreds of years, and it's still happens," he said. β
"Yes," said Hagrid, "but do you see anything, Ronan?" What do you see? β
"Mars is bright tonight...... Unusually bright. β
The centaurs' words are always so ethereal, and it's easy to get anxious when chatting with them.
"Yes, but I mean, there's nothing out of the ordinary near our house." Hagrid was visibly impatient, "Didn't you notice some strange movements?" β
"I think Ronan is trying to say that Mars is in the opposite position, and the brightness is very high, and something worse should happen." "Riots, betrayals, oppression, fraud, or simply war, for example. β
Ronan couldn't help but look at Maca, as did Hermione and Harry, but Maca shrugged.
"Don't look at me like that, I look at it in the book." "To be honest," he said, "I'm not good at astronomy or divination, and I just memorized them. β
