Chapter 9: Bedtime Stories

After washing up in the Hearthfire Island, Asker carried his quilt and pillow to the main plane and made his bed in the room on the second floor.

As he walked out of the room, he saw Eleanor's spear behind a locked door, and if something tried to hit the door, it would knock it to the ground, making a sound that would wake everyone up.

Eleanor's shield is placed vertically on the window, which not only blocks the eyes of prying eyes from outside, but also serves as a warning.

Eleanor, who was carrying a long sword, finished inspecting the cellar and walked back to the hall on the first floor, when she heard a voice above her asking:

"All checked?"

"Hmm." Eleanor looked up at Asker, who was leaning against the railing on the second floor, "I'm keeping vigil in the living room today. ”

"If I were you, I'd be laying in the hallway on the second floor." "Once awakened, as long as you hold the stairs condescendingly, the enemy will not be able to attack them." ”

"There's no need for weapons and shields, it's too extravagant. Simply handstand a few bottles on the periphery. ”

"Makes sense." Eleanor nodded, put the spear and shield back away, and began to use the bottle to make a sound-trap.

"I'll stay in this room." Aske said, "Remember to call me if you have a situation." ”

"Are you out today?" Eleanor asked in surprise.

"Yes." Asker said.

But today it's my turn to guard the ancient books. Eleanor hesitated for a moment, but finally did not speak.

She knew that the head of the regiment was worried about her safety, and she wanted to refuse, but the head of the regiment was too powerful, and with him in the room, she could feel much more at ease by keeping vigil by herself.

Asker went back to his room and went to sleep. The room was small and the furniture was shabby, but it was cleaned up by the hostess, who lay down on the bed with his clothes closed, his eyes closed, and the keel sword beside the bed.

Eleanor had set up a bunk on the second floor, keeping her sword, shield, and spear within easy reach, and her eyes could easily scan the living room and the main entrance below as she looked over the edge of the floor in the hallway.

"Asker." She called softly, "Asker? ”

"What's wrong?" There was a voice in the room.

"My voice is so soft, you can hear it?" Eleanor asked, surprised.

"Of course, my 'Perfect Body X' has a bonus in terms of perception." Asker replied.

"Hmm." Eleanor said truthfully, "I can't sleep. ”

"Something?"

"Thinking about what the man said."

That person, naturally, refers to the demigod of the Hidden Strings.

"What's the use of thinking so much?" Asker said.

"It's useless, but I can't help but think about it." Eleanor rested her head on one hand and looked down, "Aske......"

"War, it's a terrible thing. I wondered, if I hadn't met you in the Arena of Constantinople, what would I be like now? ”

There was silence in the room for a moment.

When Asker first met Eleanor, he thought her appearance was somewhat familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen her.

The only thing that is certain is that as an NPC in the game, she definitely did not die in the closed beta version of the Fall of Constantinople War.

"Say, will I die in the Crusades?" Eleanor asked faintly.

"No, I won't." Asker said.

"Why? At that time, I was just an ordinary person, and I was not very strong. Eleanor said, "Even if I can't defeat the Crusader knights who are besieging the city, I should stand up to the delight of the citizens of Constantinople." ”

"Because when the Crusaders invade the Golden Horn, Nora will definitely call someone to pick you up, and then they will take you away by the way." "I don't think you'll stay in Constantinople until the Crusader knights cross the Galata Bridge," said Aske. ”

There was silence outside the door for a long time, and Eleanor's voice was relieved:

"Yes. If I didn't meet you. ”

"Speaking of which, how did you and Nora meet?" Asker asked casually.

"Guards." Eleanor replied, "I accepted her as a bodyguard for a while, and accompanied her on a walk through the city of Constantinople. ”

"Then, she guessed your identity." Asker said.

"Probably, though I was just a down-and-out wandering mercenary from the outside." Eleanor smiled, "But she could tell from the accent in my voice that I was from a noble family in Bavaria." ”

"Does the accent reflect the class identity of the speaker?" Asker asked casually.

"Yes or no." Eleanor whispered, "Mia, Peggy, and Mi'er, for example, speak standard Cirius and can be heard as citizens of Constantinople, as the city-states of the Cirith Peninsula have their own dialect accents. ”

"For example, although Sidlifa and I both speak Latin, only the Frankish nobles speak the standard Latin accent, and the commoners speak with a lot of Frankish dialects. Hidlifa's Latin has a strong Northland accent and some slang vocabulary, which is supposed to be her native dialect. ”

"As for Medea and you, Nora said she couldn't hear your origins at all. Medea's Cirius is unusually fluent, but too standard, apparently painstakingly trained to remove most accent features. ”

"The same is true of your Cirius and Latin, which could not be more standard, and Nora says you must have received extremely specialized linguistic training."

Actually, I didn't learn Latin or Cirius at all, these are special talents that come with soul piercing...... Aske complained in his heart.

"Asker, what is your past like?" After a moment, Eleanor asked in a low voice.

"My past was boring." Aske said, suddenly feeling a little familiar with the question.

"Is it more boring than the story of a girl who was born into an upper-class aristocratic family, always competed with her brothers, and ran away from home in the last breath?" Eleanor asked.

"For example, is it more boring to live the first half of your life in a step-by-step manner according to your family's arrangement, and then suddenly start chasing your dreams and life values?" Asker said.

"Looks like we're pretty much the same." Eleanor said, "I don't want to go as my family wants." Heh, I'm thinking if we could have met sooner......"

"And then?" Asker asked.

There was silence outside the door for a long time.

"No, nothing. Good night. ”

"Good night."

Eleanor tucked her head into the covers, took one last look at her sword and shield, and slowly closed her eyelids.

What did you just want to say? Eleanor, is it hot-headed?

She suddenly felt a little tired, and she felt sleepiness pouring out of her heart in layers.

The complicated and chaotic thoughts also calmed down, and began to enter a state of false sleep to remain faintly awake.

I don't know how long it took......

It wasn't until a crisp sound of the bottle falling to the ground sounded from downstairs that she suddenly woke up from her fake sleep, and her right hand instantly stretched out the futon and held the long sword on the floor.
