CHAPTER XXIII
The Tyrrhenian Sea is a sea area located west of Italy and Sicily.
After the Normans occupied Sicily, caravans of cargo ships that crossed the Tyrrhenian Sea bound for the Holy See had to pay two taxes: a commercial tax on goods purchased from the Holy See, and a "sea protection fee" to be paid to the Normans.
If they are sold in a place where the lord of the place is more black-hearted, then they may have to pay three taxes. So many layers of complicated exploitation have almost wiped out the trade of most cheap goods, and only one remains:
i.e. the global trade network of the Templars.
It is well known that all the high-tech or sophisticated industrial products of the Holy See could not be exported directly to foreign countries through Italy and Canada, but had to follow the Templar trade network, run to the dioceses of various countries, and then selectively sell them to some "religious" local nobles, which is the so-called double-sword tactic, that is, to use the "secular sword" of Christ to open the way for the "spiritual sword" of Christ.
The last time Asker helped the Holy See clean up Raphael, he asked for a Templar trade license to purchase these technological items.
Because of the scarcity and irreplaceability of such goods, prices outside of Italy are often extremely high. For example, a pair of ordinary knight power armor can cost as much as 200 gold Lorraine coins in the HRE Empire, of which the power servo system imported to the Holy See costs 140 gold coins.
The high selling price, which brought high profits, made the caravans of cargo ships acceptable to the bulls, and made the Normans financially extremely dependent on the so-called "sea protection tax", because after all, the money was too easy to come by.
Because of this, once the undead fleet sailed to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the trade of cargo ships would probably have to be cut off. After all, the undead do not accept bribes, they only know how to kill, and the undead lords are happy to plunder the industrial products of the Holy See and "recruit soldiers" from the crews of these cargo ships.
This, in turn, would greatly affect the revenues of the Kingdom of Sicily, so the Normans would not sit idly by. As for using it as a test for the young Norman generation, it can only be said that this is the usual arrogance and arrogance of the Normans.
With the orders of the Ottville family, a large number of Norman ships left the port of Palermo and began to sail towards the northern seas. Many of the young members of the family seemed to be out to sea for the first time, and they were excitedly lying on the side of the boat, looking at the waves rolling below the bottom of the boat. Some even suffered from seasickness and hid back in the cabin.
Demigod William sat on the last flagship, silently watching the performance of these family juniors in the distance.
Although the ancient Vikings were famous for their piracy, the Outville family had been away from piracy for many years. Today, even if they occupy Sicily and build up a large navy, they have not actually experienced many large-scale naval battles.
The army is still like that, not to mention the young people of the clan.
After making a secret note of the seasick juniors, William continued to scan the nearby sea, and suddenly noticed a small boat on the right flank of the fleet, the crew of which seemed to be busier than the others.
"Put the sails away a little! Is it to drive so fast to disconnect from the fleet! The woman's scolding rang out, and as a one-handed battle axe was thrust into the mast, the sailors swiftly carried out her orders, lest they themselves be treated in the same way as the mast.
"Right hand rudder sixth! Stay away from the boat on the left and don't get hit by them! What if they're a fool at the helm? ”
"Wipe the floor clean, save yourself from slipping and falling during the next broadside battle, and send your throat under the enemy's blade in vain!"
"Barrels of ballast, twenty of them are carried out and piled on the side of the ship! You can use them as cover later! ”
The long-haired Norman warrior was constantly scolding, and few sailors were spared by her angry scolding. However, despite being scolded for being incomplete, the overall preparation of the sailors proceeded extremely quickly, and even their progress was far ahead of the entire fleet - you know, the captains of the other fleets were almost all veterans of the Ottville family!
Sidlifa, is Robert's daughter? William secretly refreshed his perception of this woman...... This kind of tactical literacy is absolutely impossible to cultivate on a merchant or passenger ship.
The emphasis on preparation for broadside battles, distrust of wingmen and distance control of the fleet as a whole is not like the formal naval academy of various countries. Those academics put more emphasis on strict discipline and one-on-one execution of discipline, and this one's style is wild at first glance.
In other words, have you had the experience of piracy?
The demigod William had asked people to investigate the story of this Sidlifa, she had been in a mercenary group called the "Blue Sword" last year, and she seemed to have registered with the gladiator guild in Constantinople before.
Considering the situation in the Eastern Solomonic Empire, maybe she also tried to sign up for the Royal Varangian Guard, perhaps she was a gladiator who didn't pass the interview later.
Pirates, gladiators, and mercenaries, if someone has mixed up with so many high-risk professions and hasn't died, then this guy is definitely a veteran oilman. Even if you're a normal person with no rank, you'll have to be careful on the battlefield - you might just pull out a gun and shoot you in the head.
What's more, this is already a Lv.10 transcendent...... William narrowed his eyes slightly, thinking that this year's Viking Trials would probably have a pretty good result.
Pleasing Navia's bones, even ...... Get its approval.
Of course, whether or not she can get Navia Bone Fang to be recognized, given that she also has another Priel Axe, William will have to do something about her.
After all, the Navia Bone Fang is a transcendent artifact that the Outville family relies on for survival, and it must not be easily handed over to an uncontrolled member, even if she is a member of the Outville family.
Thinking like this, William clapped his hands gently, and several Norman knights carefully removed a corpse from the cabin.
The corpse was a young Norman man, frozen to the ground of a dry corpse. Around his neck hung a necklace of twine strung with thick bone teeth, each of which was turned upside down and pierced deep into the veins of the dried corpse's neck.
As the frozen corpse was moved to the deck, the frost on the surface of the corpse also glowed with a colorful luster under the sunlight, and the cold air on it seemed to roll up tiny whirlpools in the air, gradually converging into the bone tooth necklace.
It's as if a man-eating monster is greedily sucking blood.
In the distance, on the deck of the ship, the exclamation of the Normans sounded again. Because the ghost fleet of the realm of the dead has appeared on the left side of the horizontal line where the sea and the sky meet.
Their ships are made of rotting planks, seaweed, and bone, like abandoned desolate graves. Countless banshees and wraiths hovered over the fleet, emitting eerie and eerie screams that could almost make people shudder and sting in the depths of their souls.
