Chapter 925: Acacia's Last Light
"Not necessarily, right?"
As soon as Jax finished speaking, he twisted the lamppost vigorously. The lamppost used Jeno's palm as a fulcrum to pry his fingers open against his tiger's mouth, and then Jax recaptured them.
The lamppost kept turning, wrapping its grip on Jeno's hand.
Normal people should have retreated, but Jeno did not retreat but advanced, trying to slap Jax in the heart.
An inch long and an inch strong, Jax flicked to the left and stabbed Jeno in the crystal-unprotected lower abdomen with a lamppost, forcing him to curl up and gasp for air in pain. Not only did the outstretched palm reach Jax, but it also became soft.
"What other means do you have, just use it, I'll take it all and beat you to the ground!" Jax wanted to stop, but when he saw Jeno's unwilling to give up, he immediately provoked again.
"That's what you said." Jeno had never heard such a strange request, and the corners of his mouth twisted into a triumphant smile.
Jax saw that Jeno's palms were glowing, and he subconsciously wanted to withdraw the lamppost to avoid the attack, but found that the left hand that he thought was meant to resist the lamppost was holding the lamppost at the moment!
The next moment, a ray of light burst out and pierced the air!
Jax felt the burning aftermath in his ears and fell silent.
If Jeno hadn't changed the direction of his shot just now, he might have already had a hole in his chest.
"My lord, times have changed." Jeno let go of his grip on the lamppost and asked, "Why don't you let go of the lamppost?" ”
"I have a reason why I can't let it go." Jax erected the lamppost, looked at the flames in the lamppost, and said meaningfully, "This is Acacia's last light." ”
"Do you know why that war started?" Jax asked Jano, but he ignored the two Ascenders beside him, apparently wanting them to hear as well.
"Say, we should face history." Jeno nodded, he needed others to know Jax as well.
Acacia was once a rich and diverse civilization, ruled by the last ancient mage king, Lord Akzam. The expanding Shurima turned a deaf ear to Akzam's call for peaceful coexistence, and Acacia's army was routed by the Celestial warriors of the Ascended army.
The defeated Acacia accepted the proposal and became a subordinate autonomous district of Shurima, and established a governing council to oversee the change of power by eminent mages, philosophers, and legislators.
Acacia has produced many heroic leaders and revolutionary thinkers for the Shurima Empire, but none of them have been recognized as having the qualifications to ascend. Again and again, the parliament petitioned the emperor in the distant capital, but the expectations of the solar disk were repeatedly rejected without any reason.
As revolt grew, the council began to seek a diplomatic outcome, asking for the assistance of the neighboring vassal states of Karik, Kalduga, and Ishtar.
But none of them dared to side with Acacia against the mighty Shurima.
Acacia was left alone, and the Council elected a new Mage King. The mages of the Council dared to do so because they had discovered something deep underground, dark and powerful—perhaps powerful enough to restrain Shurima's Ascended Celestial Warriors.
Sejax Cayu-Renes Ayckasson was given a mission to escort the discovered Alcasia mages...... They used torch staffs, barely containing them with the help of magically generated elemental flames.
Sejax was deeply disturbed, but he did not disobey the order and escorted the mages to the ruling council. It was later learned that they referred to this power as the "Void".
As a master weapon, he is well aware of the dangers of using weapons, especially one that they can neither fully understand nor safely handle.
Whenever he thought back to the time he had set out from Saabra, he would regret that he hadn't killed the mages on the spot. This regret will be deepened in the days to come.
The Council was confident that the Void would be able to defeat the Lord of Shurima on their heads, the new Mage King was crowned, and the Kauari Warriors were re-established, with Sejax being among the first to join.
They were victorious in their early engagements, and Sejax even killed a boastful Ascendant in battle, watching with pride as people carried its corpse through the streets of the liberated city of Beizek.
The mighty Regiments of Ascension approached Acacia, and Sejax and his brethren rallied at the front. 10,000 people fought hundreds of thousands, and at first there were back and forth, but as soon as the nine Celestial warriors entered, the battle turned into a one-sided slaughter.
As the army turned the ground beneath their feet into scarlet clay, the mages and priests of Acacia decided that the time had come to free the Void.
Destruction swept across the land, and the Acacians, Shurima, and even the Ascended ones all disintegrated and crumbled, cease to exist. The walls collapsed, and the void swallowed thousands, sent to cold, silent annihilation.
In an instant, Acacia fell.
With all the brothers killed, Sejax rode out of the terrifying battlefield to the pit left behind by the Void's summoning, deciding to wield his sword like the Kauali of old.
But before he could end his life, he saw a torch staff in the midst of the chaos, which he recognized as something he had seen in Saabrah—the eternal flame still burning on it could damage the Void.
This fire lit up Sejax's heart. He picked up his staff, leaving the ruins of his homeland behind, caring for the "last light of Acacia" and the hope it represented.
In grief and shame, Sejax Cayu-Raines Kauali Aycardonon abandoned his old name, and from that day on, he was only Jax.
He became a wanderer, traveling through the known world and going beyond the map record. Jax's lifespan was extended by holding the Eternal Flame. However, the farther away he was from Acacia, the fainter the flame became, and eventually it seemed like it could be extinguished forever.
He understands that he cannot escape his past. He needs to return to his duty and fight for it. While the last surviving Ascend prevented the Void's incursion, its unique threat persisted.
In the time that followed, Jax roamed until now. He is a homeless warrior looking for someone strong enough to face the coming darkness.
It wasn't long ago that he received an invitation from Jeno to join forces with him to fight the Void. He no longer had to face everything alone like Acacia had done.
But now it seems that in addition to the Celestial Warriors, there are also quite a few powerful guys.
"Jeno, you have been recognized by me, and although it is a pity that you cannot rebuild Kauali, I will be the last Kauali of Acacia...... Face the Void! Till death rest! ”
