Chapter 313: London Super Grand Prix

28 July, London, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

"Alas, Su Zu, you haven't run 200 meters for a long time."

In the indoor rest center of the stadium, Su Zu was lying on the massage table, and Jiang Daheng was asking while giving him pre-game massage therapy.

"I haven't run since the National Games last year." Su Zu heard Jiang Daheng's question, took off the headset and replied.

This pre-match warm-up massage, he couldn't do anything. Now that mobile phones are not popular, you can only take a headphone and listen to music.

"I think you don't have to run 200 meters, you can improve the 100 meter record, and now I have a pimple in my heart when I think about you sharing this record with others. It's like our own good stuff, why share it with foreigners, right? ”

"Okay, Master Jiang, you wait for me to turn around and set a new record for you." Su Zu smiled and joked.

Li Zhizhong leaned on a chair next to him, as if he was thinking about something, and when he heard the words of Su Zu and Jiang Daheng, he came back to his senses and said: "I will return to China in two days, you haven't run 200 meters this year, and this London Grand Prix 200 meters is to practice your hands." Later in the National Championships, the World Cup, the IAAF Finals, you will definitely have to participate in these 200 meters. How much you can run in the 200 meters now, I can't say. ”

"Hey, yes." Jiang Daheng patted Su Zu's calf muscles, "When is the best 200-meter result, last year's World Championships was still the United States." ”

Su Zu's plan for this year's Golden League was formulated later, focusing on the men's 100 meters, and the purpose is actually the same as before, in order to break the world record.

After all, 200 meters is more physical than 100 meters, and the Golden League game is generally one day, but the one-day game arrangement often appears 200 meters in front and 100 meters in the back.

If you have to compete in the 100m after the 200m in the Golden League, it will also be a test of fitness. The interval between is too short to recover. Against an opponent like Asafa Powell, it's not easy to do the 200m in one race.

Now that the Golden League in July has ended, the next Zurich Golden League fixture is not until August 18.

Powell did not participate in the London Grand Prix, and Suzu did not face direct pressure to run a 200-metre race with ease.

In fact, after returning from training on the sub-plateau, Su Zu has not verified his results in the 200-meter event, and everyone is not sure what he can run.

After participating in the London Grand Prix, he is ready to return to China to participate in the National Championships and Asian Games Trials, and he will definitely have to run 200 meters at that time, but with the level of current domestic athletes, Su Zu has nothing to refer to.

But the London Grand Prix was different, with two of the best 200m runners at the moment, Tyson Gay and Javier Carter.

The duo had just run an astonishing 19.63 and 19.70 seconds at the previous Lausanne Super Prix, and the third place in that race was the Jamaican Lightning with a time of 19.88 seconds.

And in this London Grand Prix, Su Zu also has to face the long-lost Jamaican lightning again.

In the men's 100m event without Powell, Su Zu has basically no competitors now, and in the 200m event, he still has a lot of top athletes to face.

The likes of Tyson Gay, Javier Carter, Wallace Spearmon, these are the top 200m runners at the moment. Even quite a few 200m athletes performed very well in the 400m event.

Like Wallace Spearmon, who has excellent sheer speed and speed endurance, running a personal best of 45.22 seconds in the men's 400m at the Paris Golden League. The Jamaican Lightning also ran a personal best of 47.58 seconds in the 400m this year.

However, there is still a big gap between the 100m, 200m and 400m events.

Generally, athletes who can do both 100m and 200, such as Suzu, Tyson Gay, Sean Crawford, etc., are faster in the first half and the second half, or the first half needs to be properly retained to ensure the speed of the second half.

This is typically absolute speed stronger than speed endurance.

Many of the 200-meter and 400-meter runners are faster than the first half in the second half, or the speed in the front and back half is relatively average, which is stronger than the absolute speed.

There's actually a very simple way to measure it, which isn't necessarily accurate, but it's actually relatively intuitive.

That is, looking at the time of the runner to run 100 meters and 200 meters, you can see the strength of his speed and endurance after folding in half.

For example, Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearmon have a personal best of 9.69 seconds in the 100m, and if multiplied by two, his time would be 9.38 seconds. In fact, his personal best in the 200m was 9.58 seconds.

Wallace Spearmon, on the other hand, has a personal best of 9.96 seconds in the 100m, which is 19.92 seconds if multiplied by two, but Spearmon actually achieved a personal best of 19.65 seconds in the 200m.

Then there's the typical 400m runner LaSean Merrett, whose best time in the 100m is 10.56 seconds, while the best time in the 200m is 19.74 seconds and 43.65 seconds in the 400m.

Of course, these are related to special training, such as the time when Lasean Merrette ran 19.74 seconds in the 200 meters, and the 100 meters must have exceeded 10.56 seconds, but basically some clues can be analyzed from these.

Since winning the men's 100m and 200m championships at the World Championships in Helsinki last year, there is actually no shortage of people in China who have asked Suzu to consider running the 400m.

But in the end, Su Zu basically gave up, and an important reason was that his speed and endurance were far from enough for him to compete with the top 400m athletes.

He may be able to run 45.46 seconds, but this time may not be in the top eight of the men's 400m at the Olympics.

And compared to the impact, the 100-meter event is undoubtedly much larger than the 200-meter and 400-meter event.

Su Zu usually trains and occasionally runs 400 meters, but it is basically impossible to really do 400 meters again.

People's energy is limited, and they can occasionally try and play tickets, but compared with the top players in the specialty, there must be a gap. Even if he was as strong as Jamaican lightning in later life, his entire career personal best in the 400m was 45.28 seconds, which can be said to be much more ordinary than his performance in the 1200m.

Moreover, in world-class competitions, such as the Olympic Games and the World Championships, there are three or four rounds of competition from the preliminaries, semi-finals, semi-finals, and finals, and it is difficult to support them physically.

Carl Lewis's greatness was laid down by two Olympic gold medals in the 100m, one Olympic gold medal in the 200m, two gold medals in the 4×100m relay and four gold medals in the long jump.
