Chapter 19: The Embarrassing Patronus
It's a magic whistle that mimics the frequency of the wings of the "tree-toothed wasp", a creature that is not only a natural predator for man-smashing willows, but also a social insect that most magical plants fear - they only eat plants that move.
Maca walked over and reached out and patted its thick rhizome on the surface, and the roots immediately trembled to the side, revealing a deep, dark hole in the ground.
It was a sloping cave that was large enough for one person to lie down and slide down. Maca frowned, cradled the suitcase she was carrying in her arms, and then jumped inside and slid down.
The slope didn't look long, and soon Maca was in a tunnel where she had to bend down to move forward.
The tunnels were cut off from all light, and it was pitch black. Covering her head against the top wall, Maca fumbled and pulled out her wand, but he paused halfway through it and finally put it back.
The Ministry of Magic has left traces on each finished wand, and underage wizards under the age of 17 are immediately detected if they use magic outside of school. Especially in this kind of place where there are few people, it is extremely eye-catching, whether it can be used or not, even if it should still be within the scope of Hogwarts.
He pulled out a small glass bottle from the pocket on the inside of his robe and shook it vigorously, making a rustling sound of grit.
A soft shimmer of light appeared in the darkness, and gradually brightened. If you look closely into the bottle, you will see that there is a strange light mist in it, and it tends to get thicker and thicker.
"When I make enough money, I must buy a portable fanny pack," Maca said, ripping her robe, which was filled with all kinds of bottles and jars, looking heavy.
Some of them are potions, some are semi-finished products, and some are even just one material, but all of them are very practical gadgets.
ββ¦β¦ Or make one yourself. He was still reluctant to put up his money bag.
As he walked forward, pondering what he had and didn't have, he soon felt the tunnel gradually sloping upward. Not long after, a faint light appeared in front of me.
Maca pulled out the cork of the bottle that was constantly glowing, and with a soft "pop", the light mist inside diffused in the tunnel, and dissipated in a short time.
The light mist in the bottle was gone, and only the small half bottle of delicate black sand remained at the bottom, and Maca stuffed the cork back on.
Many potions, or even simple ingredients, can be used to exert the same effect as spells, and some are even more powerful than spells, but the barrier to use is extremely low.
Of course, you have to prepare them in advance and carry them with you at all times. But the flaws are not hidden, and this is one of the reasons why potions are expensive.
Over time, many potion recipes have been crushed to pieces by the wheels of history, leaving them in their glory days. But there is also a new generation of apothecaries working on this, whether it is restoring recipes or trying to innovate, so that potions have maintained their place in the wizarding world that cannot be ignored.
ββ¦β¦ So, without 200 Galleons I would never agree. β
In the corner of Hogsmeade's pig's head pub, a small wizard wrapped in a shabby hooded cloak of dusty, felt-sewn cloth was speaking calmly in a vague western country accent.
The hoarse voice, as if his vocal cords had been sharpened by a file, made people want to frown.
Opposite him, a wizard wrapped up layers of his bare skin in massive bandages was haggling with him in an equally uncomfortable, indistinct voice. The sound of the voice made one wonder if there was a mouthful of old phlegm in his throat.
"Nope! Ahem, this potion of yours is a new product, and before you see its effects...... Ahem...... I can't put it on sale in my store. I can't bet on the credibility of my store. β
"But just try, cough cough...... As far as the trial is concerned, this price is too expensive! β
The little wizard's tone was still calm, and he said lightly, "In that case, the deal failed. β
With that, he stood up on the table and walked straight out the door.
"Oh-ahem, wait, damn it!" The bandage wizard said weakly, "I'll pay!" But, ahem...... You'll have to count me cheaper β if you want to work with me for the long haul! β
"150 Galleons, valid payment." The little wizard, who had already reached the door, turned around and said impatiently.
"Come, cough cough...... Deal. β
The Bandage Wizard waved his hand weakly, he did crave that useful new commodityβif it did work that well.
That little wizard is naturally Maca in disguise. He played himself aside, circumventing the biggest drawback he could encounter in a negotiation β his age, and then firmly gained the upper hand in a reciprocal verbal exchange.
It was a commercial negotiation to which both parties were relatively satisfied. No matter how reluctant the bandage wizard may be, he is determined to get his hands on this new commodity.
A new type of stealth potion, what an attractive business opportunity!
After the bandage wizard tried it out, the two signed a magic contract in duplicate to finalize the long-term deal.
"The purchase price is two hundred, and thirty-seven is divided...... Good deal! β
Back at the Screaming Shack, Maca hung the torn cloak directly in the old closet in the house, then spat out a small piece of stone from his mouth, his voice finally returning to normal.
He flicked his fingers at the magic contract scroll made of delicate parchment, and smiled a little excitedly.
Of course, for now, he has just earned 1,200 gold galleons, but he has just filled in the big hole in the material cost of the previous practice. And then he had to continue to practice the preparation of other potions, long before he became a rich man!
"No wonder there is always the Potions Book with the words 'This is an endless road paved with gold gallons' on the title page." Maca sighed, the excitement just now had long since disappeared with the change of mood.
β¦β¦
Ever since Maca got the potion's sales channel, everything seems to be going well. The study and research of various disciplines are progressing slowly but steadily with daily input. And what made Maca especially happy was that he had a real breakthrough in the Patronus Charm!
On a silent night, Maca was standing in the spacious room provided by the Room of Requirement.
Yes, after a lot of searching and reminiscing, he finally found the place where it was - it was located on the eighth floor of the castle, opposite the tapestry of "Trolls Beat Silly Barnabas".
God knows how many times he wandered back and forth like a fool in front of countless paintings, tapestries and stone statues in order to find the exact location!
"Divine Guard!"
Maca stood straight in the center of the room, holding her wand straight in front of her like a saber, focusing all her mind and attention on the tip of her wand, and as the pure silvery-white light grew brighter and brighter, she detached herself from Maca's wand.
For a moment, the light flowed around Maca's body, forming a faint layer of silvery-white light mist.
Ever since Maca started practicing the Patronus Charm, he had only been able to get to this point. It can even be said that when he tried to practice for the first time, he could already release this silvery-white light mist full of hope and life.
But as he practiced again and again, the light mist became thicker and thicker again and again, but he was always unable to summon his patron saint.
This made Maca start to re-study the basic theory of the spell.
He consulted a large number of texts again, but found nothing special. Most of the theories of this spell are vague, saying that the user needs to concentrate on thinking and remembering the happy and beautiful things. All in all, positive emotions.
In desperation, Maca had no choice but to focus on the various instances of successful Patronus Charms.
In the end, the hard work paid off, and several cases of using the Patronus Charm to save his loved ones allowed him to find a new breakthrough point. He discovered that the true power of the spell was when the user was forced to protect a particular object by circumstances!
ββ¦β¦ Guard. β
Maca remembered the image she had seen Luna for the first time in the cemetery.
In the setting sun, the girl's long pale blonde hair exuded a faint halo. She stood in front of the cold tombstone, looking at her deceased mother without saying a word, and in the whole gray scene, only her back was so distinct;
Under the stars, when Maca subconsciously avoids her mother's topic. She told him frankly that it was indeed a sad story, but she had to know how to face it head-on;
Before parting, Maca even remembered her silver-gray eyes, and in those hazy eyes, there was a longing for goodbye to his friend who was about to be separated for a while.
As Maca remembered, the thick silvery-white mist that swirled around his body suddenly surged, turning into a translucent silver eagle circling around him.
Maca looked at the huge eagle in front of her, and an embarrassed look appeared on her face.
ββ¦β¦ How am I going to deal with Dean Sprout in the future? β
In the four Hogwarts houses, the eagle is the symbol of Ravenclaw, representing justice, perceptiveness, severity, vision, and superiority.
When the Sorting Hat assigns Maca, it first considers Ravenclaw House, and although he was eventually placed in Hufflepuff for unknown reasons, it undoubtedly shows that Maca has a great relationship with Ravenclaw.
At this moment, this eagle patron saint, in addition to being related to the emotions of "hope to protect Luna", may also have something to do with this.
"Anyway, let's go to bed first!"
Maca waved her wand, dispelling the Patronus Charm, and then left the Room of Request with a sense of complexity.
