Chapter 45: The World in the Tape

When I took the tapes from Jessica, I didn't put them in the VCR for the first time, but I kept looking at some of the traces left on the tapes.

Eventually, though, I found myself unable to judge the exact timing of these tapes, and although they seemed to have a clear mark of time on the surface, I was able to make a more accurate judgment after watching what was recorded inside.

"Jessica, are you really going to watch these tapes now?"

"Well, I had been hesitant to watch these tapes, but as time went on, I realized that even if I chose to escape some truths, it would be useless, and in the end I still needed to face it bravely, and since my parents left these tapes to me, then there must be a reason for them."

I nodded slightly, and then decisively put the tape into the VCR, at this time Jessica's TV was still a black and white TV made in the late 80s and early 90s, and it was only 21 inches in size.

When the tape was put into the VCR, I pulled Jessica to the back of the couch and sat down, ready to quietly watch what was recorded on the tape.

However, there was a black and gray picture on the TV screen for more than a minute, but I'm sure it wasn't because the tape wasn't played correctly, because during the process I could clearly hear some kind of parrot cry sound coming from the TV, and you should know that some parrots can learn to speak, and these parrot calls from the TV have some very obvious parrots imitating human voices.

Jessica stared at me with some fear, and I gently patted her on the shoulder to show that she didn't need to be afraid, and when the short but long minute had finally passed, the picture on the TV suddenly jumped into a very large room.

However, I can't be sure whether this room belongs to an ordinary house or some factory building, because the shooting angle is from the top down, similar to the angle of a camera lens, but I think there should not be many cameras in this era or the era when this tape was filmed, and it is obvious that this camera is shaking slightly, and it seems that someone is holding a camera on the roof somewhere and shooting down.

Because of the shooting distance, the whole angle of view is not very wide, the area in the picture is not more than ten square meters at most, and there are no stone floor tiles or wooden floors on the ground that ordinary homes will place, but it looks like some strange material special metal, but it does not have the obvious luster like ordinary metal.

Jessica and I both held our breath and watched the TV intently, the faint parrot voices still looming in the background, but they were a little weaker than they had been at the beginning, and seemed to be getting thrier and thrier, even beginning to look less like a parrot and more like the shrill voice of a very young girl.

Jessica and I couldn't help but glance at each other's eyes, yes, the sound was the same as the one we heard on the second floor of the haunted house.

But I can't be completely sure that the guy who made this sound was the one who made it in the haunted house at the time, after all, we didn't actually find the owner of the sound in the haunted house at the time, and it gave me the feeling that it was snooping on us in some dark corner, but when we tried to find him, there was nothing we could do.

This is really a very scary situation, if this guy really existed with us at that time, but we couldn't see it, then it is not something that belongs to this world at all.

I immediately forced myself to dispel this thought, telling myself that there were no ghosts in this world, and that there was nothing we could not see, and if I had to force a reasonable explanation, I would rather believe that it was a miniature tape recorder deliberately placed by the haunted house staff in some dark corner, and when someone walked up the stairs, they would accidentally touch some kind of well-hidden mechanism, thus emitting the strange sound of the tape recorder.

Then think about whether the sound in the scene we see now is also a sound effect added by the filmmakers through post-processing, or it is also the effect of a tape recorder.

I paused the tape for a moment and told Jessica what she thought, but Jessica shook her head, clearly not happy with my explanation that seemed plausible.

"You rewind this paragraph and read it again."

Jessica's fingers were on the top of the cardboard box, and I could see some kind of flickering light in her eyes, like the kind of look that Columbus should have had when he discovered the New World.

I rewind the tape for a short time, as Jessica said, but this time there was no more strange sound from the world in the tape, and what was even more strange was that the perspective after the video started seemed to be a little closer to the ground than the previous one.

I quickly paused the tape again, and then my mouth grew and I didn't know what to say.

"How did this tape change its content?"

I ended up vaguely asking the question.

"This tape may have some kind of encryption, so in fact, the picture we see is different every time, but these contents are not the real content stored in this tape, but only the interference information brought by this encryption method."

My head suddenly turned a little bit, why would such an advanced encryption method exist in this era?

It feels like even decades from now in the world will be difficult to make the same video appear in different scenes and pictures through this certain technology, and on the surface, this videotape has existed for a long time, which means that someone has been able to master this magical encryption technology for I don't know how many years ago, which is really a thing that makes people's scalps tingle when they think about it.

"Do you really think so? It's not that I'm going to question your idea, it's just that it's too bold and incredible. ”

"It's normal that you don't believe it, but that's the way it is, can you find a better explanation? It's better to rewind the video and watch it again, or try it a few more times, and then think about whether my statement makes sense. ”

Jessica's words sent me into a deep silence, for my brain couldn't turn around so quickly to believe that it was true, but on the other hand, my instincts told me that everything Jessica said was most likely true.

In the midst of this somewhat ambivalence, I finally decided to rewind the tape and watch it a few more times to confirm that Jessica was right.

When I rewinded the tape at least five times and replayed it, I don't know when a cold sweat appeared on my forehead, and Jessica's speculation was indeed a reasonable explanation in the current situation.

However, a new question arises as to who the original filmers of these tapes were, whether they were the ones who encrypted them in this horrible way, and where did Jessica's parents get the tapes, and why did they end up leaving them with Jessica.

To test whether this was the case with the other tapes, I showed all five of the five tapes that Jessica had handed over, and the results showed that each tape had this strong encryption, whether I fast-forward or watched it normally, and when I rewind the time, or when I took the tape out of the recorder and put it back in, they showed a different picture each time.

However, this is not to say that there is no connection between the images, in fact, I found that no matter how the images change, they will not be too different from the overall environment of the tape.

For example, the room in the first videotape I played, no matter how many times I replayed the background of the room, there will be no fundamental change, but some details in the room will keep changing, no matter how the sound, the angle, the distance, or the things in it change, it seems that the room itself will not change.

This situation appears in every videotape, and the other thing that puzzles me is that there is not a single living person in these videotapes, and of course the figure of a dead person does not exist, the real question is what is the real purpose of the owner of these videotapes?

I shared my findings with Jessica, who shared my views on at least most of the issues, but noticed some more nuanced connections.

Perhaps because of women's innate ability to observe more delicately, or because of women's magical sixth sense, Jessica discovered a very difficult point of connection between these tapes.

At least I didn't notice this after watching the tapes so many times, and the point of contact was that the owners of these tapes all had some common shooting habits.

No matter how we humans train or artificially want to change ourselves through acquired reflexes, there is no way to change some instincts or innate unconditioned reflexes.

If you take basketball as an example, most people can improve their basketball skills through diligent training, but not everyone can do some basketball skills, why there is a talent gap, in fact, the gap here is not only limited to what height, speed, strength, explosiveness, endurance These basic physical fitness indicators, but also some things that we can't see with the naked eye, and these things are often more important than those talents that can be seen.

The natural root of these innate talents inherited from our parents is our genes, that is, DNA, so some personal habits of some people are difficult to adjust through acquired training, and the common denominator observed by Jessica is derived from the unconditioned habitual movements of the photographer.

I can be sure of this after watching the tapes with Jessica repeatedly, so it can be seen that the person who shot the tapes must be the same person, and he has a special habit of making it clear at a glance that the tapes are from him.

But the question is, what is the real purpose of the people who filmed the ever-changing but ever-changing videotapes, and even I began to suspect that these changing images may not be an encryption measure, or that the photographer did not intend to use this way to make it impossible to distinguish which part of the situation is real.

In other words, there is a possibility that the changing conditions in these tapes are real, and even have a trance-like feeling, these are not videotapes at all, but cameras that are actually present somewhere, and we are just connecting these cameras to the video recorders through these tapes, and the reason why we see something different each time is because it is likely that many different cameras are placed in many similar rooms, and they are recording these rooms at the same time.

I was immediately shocked by my bold idea, and even I began to hesitate to tell Jessica about it, but to my surprise, Jessica actually told me this idea first, is there telepathy between me and Jessica? Or is she a mind reader?

"Jessica, I think there could be many, many interpretations for these tapes, but we still have so little information that we don't get any useful information just by relying on these completely empty rooms."

"No, I think we must have overlooked certain details, and I believe my parents had their intentions in leaving these tapes to me, maybe they really believed that I could solve the secrets, or they knew I could do it from the beginning."

"Do you mean that because of your bloodline, because everyone in your family has this special ability to see through the surface?"

"No, I don't think I have that kind of ability, it's just a gut feeling."

Jessica lowered her head slightly, I rushed over and grabbed her into my arms, and she didn't want to resist in the slightest, at this moment I only had one thought, that is, stop watching these damn tapes, stop thinking about those puzzles that can't be solved at all, how nice it would be if time could stand still, I could hold Jessica until the end of time.

However, time does not stand still, and even when you are in a happy state, it feels like time passes more quickly, as if it is a snap of a finger.

Time is such a thing, you can't grasp it or touch it, it's like water and quicksand, every time you try to catch it, you will find that the harder you try, the faster it runs, and the more it passes.

Time is running out for me and Jessica this afternoon, and soon I'll be on a Lakers plane to San Francisco, and I can't help but look up and stare into Jessica's eyes at the thought of this.

There are no special rules in the team that I can't fly or transport to the game by myself, and I took a leave of absence before and was told by my agent, so even if Jessica can go to the away game, I can't get on the same plane as her.

"You have to play well, forget about everything that happened today for a while, I don't want you to be distracted by me and affect your game."

"You're such an empathetic girl, it's a shame I can't go with you to San Francisco."

"I'm an adult, I've been able to take care of myself, you don't have to worry about me, when you enter the court, forget everything off the field, even if it's me, you have to forget it, promise me, okay?"

I know Jessica must be duplicitous when she says that, but I also know that she said it for my own good, and probably for the entire Lakers.

On the other hand, I did have to focus more on the game, especially considering that our opponents, the Golden State Warriors, were not a weak team, and they had Sprewell, who later played alongside Wolves Garnett, and Joe 1995. Smith, God's Left Hand Chris. Mullin, former Cavaliers All-Star guard Mark Murray. Price, Jordan's first three-time champion elite guard shooter BJ Armstrong.

Even though our Lakers are very strong this season, many previous games have shown many weaknesses that are very likely to be caught by opponents, such as lack of concentration, slow entry into the state, insufficient player coordination, insufficient tactical execution of players, and indulging in individual singles.

So for me, this game is definitely not to be taken lightly, I don't think even Shaq should take such an opponent lightly, in fact, this time the main core players of the Warriors are mainly forwards and guards, and considering that their tactical system is actually very similar to the later Golden State Warriors' fast-break and three-point oriented outside play.

Therefore, Shaq will be a very big hole on the defensive end, they have very good outside players, and not just a little bit of greatness, but from the guard to the front line have a strong outside projection ability, and Shaq's defensive habits are very likely to pay a heavy price for the entire Lakers.

Even if Shaq can completely blow up the opponent's interior line, but after all, the three-point shooting speed is very fast, especially the scoring efficiency that these elite shooters can achieve when no one is defended is even higher than Shaq's continuous dunking on the inside, not to mention that Shaq's style of playing with dunks and impacting the interior line cannot maintain a whole game, after all, Shaq's physical fitness is not so top-notch.

On the other hand, the opponent's all-game use of pick-and-roll to find open three-point shots is extremely energy-saving, and as long as Shaq's interior scoring efficiency can't keep up with the points he has conceded because of his poor outside defense, then the gap between us and the Golden State Warriors will be widened.

However, I also know that no matter how good an individual defense is, there is no way to support the whole team, I just hope that my defensive attitude can infect and affect those teammates, so that their defensive enthusiasm can also rise, and only the outside barrier built by our joint efforts can have a chance to prevent their elite shooters.
