Chapter VII: Saar
Dinen flexed her fingers, tapped the sword, and snorted dissatisfied.
"So," he said, holding up the glittering weapon and looking mockingly at the Captain of the Guard, "this is the only thing we can use?" ”
Albert stood with his arms folded, oblivious to the fact that this scene did not conform to the etiquette he had learned since childhood. Dineen's rebelliousness is always a headache for their controllers, but it is often very beneficial for this small combination. What's more, he also thinks that the two long swords are really a little too much.
They were dealing with an orc, and in the impression Albert had received from his elders who had fought in the orc war, the orcs were a race that was more powerful than humans and fearless to death, and being hurt would only provoke them to become more insane. In the early days of war, the human side often had to pay three to five soldiers to kill an orc. Superb skill in the face of such an enemy is difficult to work, and everything will eventually turn into a pure contest of strength.
Of course, that's not to say he lacks confidence in this fight. But in any case, a long sword in each hand can still make things a lot more complicated. Albert would rather have a hammer than this sword, which seems to be a little fluttery.
"Lieutenant General Blackmore insisted on doing so...... "The Captain of the Guard sighed, "but His Excellency the Viscount also protested, so Thrall only had one weapon, no armor. ”
Albert couldn't help but roll his eyes. He had the impression that orcs would never wear much armor, which hindered their fanatical desire to fight.
"Excellent." Dinen said coldly, "Now we are facing a meat grinder without a baffle - is this of any practical use?" I'd rather him put on a suit of plate armor than a hammer. ”
The captain of the escort looked even more embarrassed.
Albert couldn't help but feel a little sympathetic to him. Anyway, this kind of thing is not up to him to decide, but he has to face the increasingly manic Dinein. This is not something that just anyone can do, Albert can be assured that when he first met the captain of the guard, the other party's hair was still pure black, but now ...... The extra pinches of white were definitely not his delusions.
"Forget it, man." Albert patted his partner on the shoulder, "It looks like we're going to have to give it our all." ”
Dineen glanced sideways at him, inexplicably a little disgusted. He raised his hand to remove Albert's hand, and said in a meaningful tone, "Of course—how can we disappoint Blackmore if he is so seedless?" ”
"However, I always feel uncomfortable with an empty hand." He gestured to the long sword at the captain's waist, "Since they won't offer me any other option, give me your sword." ”
The captain of the guard shook his head and refused, "This is against the rules-"
Dinein's outburst was so fast that Albert didn't even react. He jerked his arm through the iron fence, grabbed the captain by the collar, and pulled him back brutally. The captain of the guard, who was caught off guard, crashed headlong, and was pulled tightly against the fence by his force, unable to move. Just then, Dineen's other hand reached out, snatching his target. Then he quickly let go of his hand and stepped back, grabbed Albert's arm and dragged him into the passage leading to the interior of the arena. It wasn't until they were already standing behind the unopened door that he stopped and let go of his hand.
"You're really skilled at running after grabbing...... Albert, who was dragged all the way, sighed while rubbing his arm, and then asked curiously, "Why do you have to have two swords?" ”
Before, when he was sparring—forget it, let's call it guidance—Dineh didn't have to have two swords, one sword was enough for him to wield a drop of water. Could it be that an orc needs to be so cautious?
Dineen ignored him. He just looked down at the sword in his hand for a while, and replaced the long sword that originally belonged to the captain of the guard into his right hand. Then he said, "Stay away later." ”
"What do you mean?" Albert frowned.
"Meaning, don't get in the way."
Even though he was accustomed to Dineh's irritability from time to time, Albert's forehead twitched when he heard this. He sincerely suspected that Dinin hadn't been killed so far because he was very capable of fighting - because to be honest, if he hadn't been taught to be tolerant, self-denying, and generous since he was a child, he would have fought with Dineen a long time ago. This guy's self-disciplined and reasonable personality is really a headache.
He shrugged his shoulders and decided to ignore it as if he hadn't heard it.
But Dinin unexpectedly repeated it seriously: "If you don't understand, I'll say it again, I'll do it later, and you're responsible for distracting him, you know?" ”
Albert looked at him in surprise, but the other party obviously didn't want to give a reason. After a few seconds of silence, he sighed and compromised, as he had done countless times before: "...... All right. ”
***
Amid a tsunami of cheers, he finally met Sal.
The orc was a head taller than Albert, but far more robust than him. Seeing the exaggerated muscles, it is not difficult to understand where the power of the orcs to surpass humans comes from. Thrall had a warhammer in his hand, and you can imagine the unstoppable momentum when it swung it. Although the front section is flattened instead of the usual sharp protrusions, it will not be much better to be next to it.
As Albert looked at Sal, the other party was scrutinizing them. The eyes of humans and orcs met unexpectedly in mid-air, and the former couldn't help but be taken aback during a brief look at each other - Thrall's eyes were actually blue, full of peace and reason, and there was no bloodthirsty murderous aura. It was very different from what he imagined to be an orc.
It is said that this orc was raised by humans. Albert thought to himself. So they can also be indoctrinated? Look at this guy, he looks like a well-bred human being, and if you just look at the eyes, he's much more amiable than many people.
- Well, of course, he didn't mean the partner he had already rushed to.
Remembering his duty, Albert hurriedly followed.
They attacked left and right, and when Thrall turned to Albert, Dinen slammed into his defenses like a leopard and slammed him down. The blow was not without its ferocity, but the thick skin of the orc was only cut in half. Tiny blood flowed out, proving that it was only a minor injury.
Thrall roared and spun around, and the hammer swept over with a snort. Dinen deftly stepped away, sending him into the air. But when Thrall was forced to deal with Albert's attack, he floated like a ghost, and the fast orcs broke open again before they could even drop the hammer.
Sal's response was quick. He immediately swung his hammer to protect his body, then backed away from them until he could get an unobstructed view of both of them. Albert hesitated for a moment, then approached head-on. But as soon as he took a few steps forward, a figure grabbed ahead of him—
Damn it. Albert let out a depressed sigh and slowed down. He felt that Dineen was too impatient, and he was completely different from him usually. His partner is in a hurry to end the fight, even putting himself in danger and breaking into the range of his opponent's attack. Even though he was much faster than Thrall, the threat of that warhammer didn't drop much. Albert watched in horror as Dineen dodged a counterattack, and the hammer grazed a few centimeters past his elbow - did he remember that he was wearing only leather armor? Or has the hatred of the orcs carried him away, and he wants to win at all costs?
Despite his confusion, Albert actively assisted him. His presence eases Dinein's crisis, and Thrall has to keep an eye on both of them at the same time. But it was Dineen who was more of a threat to him. Whenever Thrall shifted his attention and was about to attack Albert, Dinen quickly attacked him, forcing him to retreat to defend. And his attacks always missed.
The fierce battle caused the wound to continue to bleed, and Thrall gradually became out of breath. But Albert noticed that Dinein's consumption seemed to be greater, and he now looked as if he had just been fished out of the water. It seems that such an offensive will not last long.
Albert observed the movements of the two men more intently, Thrall attacked, Dinin retreated, Thrall retreated to defend, Dinin stepped forward, thrust with his right hand, Thrall counterattacked at an accelerated speed, Dinin rolled to dodge, got up and stabbed with his right hand, Thr twisted his wrist, hammer handle charged, Dinin side-jumped, kicked, right-handed—wait, how is it all right-handed?
As soon as he had this question, he saw Dinen staggering on the spot, as if he was exhausted and couldn't dodge in time. Almost immediately, Sal seized the opportunity and smashed it down. But it was also at this time that Albert was waiting, and he deliberately roared, rounded his arm and slashed at the orc's back.
Thrall was able to contain the momentum of the attack, forced his way around to dodge the sword, and then elbowed Albert in the chest. It felt like someone had slammed him with a hammer, and Albert slammed his chest, and was knocked back two steps by the momentum, almost holding his breath.
Perhaps overwhelmed by frustration, Sal impulsively made a mistake. He was in a hurry to pursue Albert, but left his back completely exposed to Dinein. As he rushed over, Dineen was already on his heels, kicking him in the crook of the leg. Thrall stumbled unexpectedly, and the next blow landed in the same spot, and the tall orc completely lost his balance and stumbled to his knees. Seeing Dineen pounce and choke him by the throat, Albert couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief, convinced that the battle was decided.
The next moment, a terrible howl resounded throughout the gladiatorial arena.
Albert looked up suddenly, shocked to see Sal's original blue eyes turn red. The green skin was stained a faint red, and the dye came from within the body—blood that burst from the pores.
"Dineh!" He shouted.
His partner reacted quickly and let go and bounced away. The orc, having lost its grip, jerked to its feet, tilted its head and roared. Albert's breath faltered with the bloodthirsty breath that made Sal feel as if he had suddenly become a giant.
"It's berserk."
Dinen had already circled around him at some point, and his voice was calm and unmatched to his actions. Albert looked at him in surprise, expecting Dineen to see it as a provocation and lashed out. But it seems that his partner never seems to be impulsive.
"What are you going to do?" He asked in a whisper.
Dinen glanced at him: "Consume him...... Give me the sword. ”
Albert complied with this inexplicable request in amazement. Dinen threw the captain of the guard in his hand, a sword that weighed more than the weapon he had been using. But another uneasiness arose.
He was about to ask, but there was only enough time for the two of them to have a brief exchange, and Thrall, who seemed to have completely lost his mind, burst out into a roar of rage and rushed over without saying anything.
"Get out of the way of him!" Dinen shouted.
They dodged to their sides. Without hesitation, Thrall pursued in Dinein's direction. Albert tried to grab his attention with a feint as he had done before, but the orc turned around with a hammer, much faster than before, as if he was holding wood instead of steel. Albert rolled on the ground and dodged, his hammer smashing into the sand. Suddenly, the sand was splashed, and the momentum was amazing.
He scrambled to his feet and saw Thrall once again chasing after him. Dinen dodged left and right under Thrall's onslaught. The furious orcs didn't seem to know what exhaustion was, but Dineh's breathing became more and more rapid. He was already very tired, and this time it was even worse. The sword-wielding hands hung down at his sides, and the weight of both swords was a burden to him.
Albert pulled his legs and chased after him. In any case, he was in much better shape than Dinein, and if he could attract the attention of the orcs, then ......
- He saw Dineen stumble.
The exhausted warrior stumbled and fell to one knee. He didn't even have time to make a tumbling motion, and the shadow of the orcs had already enveloped him. Thrall roared and raised his hammer, swinging it down hard, Dinen raised his sword to block, and—
Even from a distance of five or six meters, Albert heard the sound of steel breaking. He watched in disbelief as the two swords snapped in unison, and the warhammer struck Dinen in the chest.
- In the sudden loud noise, he didn't realize that he was letting out a heart-rending roar.
