Chapter XXIII: The Library

"Isn't it, it's only the first day of school, and you're going to the library?" At the Ravenclaw table, Terry looked at William with an expression of "I don't read much, don't lie to me".

"Just to look up some information." William said goodbye to his roommate, then walked out of the auditorium alone, walking up the marble staircase.

The library of Hogwarts is located on the fifth floor of the castle, and William searched for a long time, asking several senior classmates along the way before finally finding it, and the sudden rise and fall of the stairs in the castle made William often not know what floor he was on.

"Which bastard designed the staircase?" William jumped down the stairs that suddenly rose and complained with an unhappy expression. "Isn't it good to be normal?"

William grumbled as he walked down the hallway toward the library.

There weren't many people in the library at night, and a few people sat scattered on the sidelines, making the library a little empty.

The interior of the library was large, and William counted it roughly, and found that there were probably hundreds of bookshelves.

There are about 50 books on the first floor, and there are five layers on a bookshelf, so there are nearly 100,000 books in total, and I don't know if I can read so many books in the past few years.

A good Ravenclaw will always be greedy for knowledge.

If Hogwarts had hidden treasure, adventurous Gryffindors would have thought it must have been buried in the dangerous Forbidden Forest.

The Hufflepuffs, on the other hand, head to the kitchen for clues.

Only Ravenclaws would seek answers in the vast number of books in the library, and perhaps the library itself is the greatest treasure for Ravenclaw.

William first walked around each shelf, noting down the key words engraved on both sides of the shelf, and got a general idea of the books in the library.

Then go to the bookshelves you have memorized earlier and look for the books you want.

Soon William sat down on the long table in the library, holding several brick-like tomes in his arms.

It is worth mentioning that William did not find any books related to souls, and presumably they were all put in the forbidden area by Dumbledore.

Thinking of this, William couldn't help but look at the fenced area at the end of the library, and a large lock was firmly locked on the door of the forbidden area.

If only he could find a chance to go in and have a look, William thought to himself, knowing that it could be said to be the essence of Hogwarts magic.

I don't know how many unique items are hidden inside, and even treasures from the Big Four period can be found inside.

The knowledge that is hidden, and a little bit of it is enough to fascinate people.

However, William swears that there must be more than a large lock in the forbidden area.

The entire area was filled with obscure fluctuations of magic, and even William couldn't guess what kind of magic it was. I think it must have been arranged by Dumbledore himself.

It's better to wait, it will be a long time in the future, and there will be opportunities.

William didn't want to challenge Dumbledore's fragile nerves right out of school, so leave this to the savior Potter.

Thinking of this, William casually opened a tome called "The Origin of the Ghost - The Life of the Hogwarts Ghost" and read it with relish.

Soon, though, the boy's brows were twisted together.

William thought that the ghost should have originated from a kind of soul magic, but to William's surprise, the ghost really seemed to be born naturally.

According to the book, the ghosts are cowardly people who flinch in the face of death and dare not continue to embark on a new adventure. So, they choose to go back to the place where they have left the deepest mark in their lives and become a ghost.

But this seems to be a little wrong, is it just because you don't want to face death that you can return to the world and become a ghost?

When will the dead be free to choose whether or not to return to this world?

How could death be so merciful?

William thought with a puzzled look that he still needed to find a ghost and ask what the world was like after death.

"It's closing time!" The sudden voice beside him startled William.

William looked up and saw a middle-aged witch with a thin build, standing beside him.

The witch had a gloomy face and looked a bit like a perennially malnourished vulture.

William looked around again, and there were only two people left in the huge library, him and the witch.

The witch had a feather duster in her hand, and it must have been Mrs. Pince, William thought.

"It's closing time!" The witch repeated what she had just said, her voice sounding hoarse.

She looked at William with straight eyes, and the cloudy eyes looked very strange in the dim light, and William's scalp was a little numb.

Why am I studying ghosts at night, isn't this scaring myself? With a big heart like William, he was also a little scared at the moment, he quickly packed up the books on the table, stuffed them into the magic bag, and walked quickly to the library.

William didn't know that Mrs. Pince seemed to be something unusual today.

You must know that in normal times, when you see a wizard who treats books so roughly, the witch will come forward and wave her feather duster to scold those wizards who don't respect books.

William walked out of the library, the night sky today looked exceptionally bright, a crescent moon hung high in the sky, and countless constellations that William didn't recognize his name shimmered under the night sky.

William groped his way in the direction of the Ravenclaw Tower in the already empty castle.

The stairs at night also seemed to be asleep, and they stopped there motionless.

When William passed by, he would make a few noises from time to time, as if he was snoring, it was really magical!

William followed the motionless staircase and soon came to the foot of the Ravenclaw Tower. William followed the stairs and soon came to the knocker of the Ravenclaw common room.

"Where did the disappeared go?" Tonight's knocker was also very wrong, and he actually asked William such a question.

"Turning into all things." William was also a little strange to hear such a question, but he knew the original book well and quickly thought of the answer to the question.

Fortunately, it was a question mentioned in the original book, and William thought happily that if it was really a new question and he couldn't answer it, it would be miserable to be locked out.

"Perhaps," the knocker replied, and the door to the lounge slowly opened.

William crossed the threshold, and as he turned to close the door, he suddenly noticed that there seemed to be this person watching him in the shadows in the distance of the hallway.

Due to the distance, William could not see his face clearly, and could only see that it was a humanoid shadow.

That position, it should be a pair of armor, don't scare yourself! William muttered to himself, and the boy slammed the door shut.

With a thud, the door slammed shut, and the corridor outside fell back into silent darkness.
