19. Climb over the green ridge and break the cloud castle
Master Xuanzang's "Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty" contains "the northeast of the border, over the mountains and valleys, through danger and danger, more than 700 miles, to the Bomi Luochuan." There are more than 1,000 miles from east to west, more than 100 miles from north to south, and no more than 10 miles from narrow places. According to the two snow-capped mountains, the cold wind is bitter, the snow flies in spring and summer, and the wind drifts day and night. Ground alkali halogen, gravel, sowing is not nourishing, grass and trees are scarce, so it leads to empty waste, and no one stops. "Bomi Luochuan, that is, Green Ridge. It can be seen that the local hardships are hard.
When I came to the foot of the Green Ridge, it was already the fifth month of the lunar calendar. It was a sunny morning.
Looking up at the towering Green Ridge Mountains, I saw that the black wind on the top of the mountain was rolling the snow that did not melt all year round, like a demon roaring and constantly pressing down. My heart was beating wildly, the world was turning in front of me, and I felt like I was standing in front of the abyss, dizzy and almost fainting. I hurriedly dismounted, and crouched for a while.
The general looked at me. He immediately ordered everyone to put on masks, tie all weapons and equipment to horses, and look down at the ground when marching, and not look up at the mountains or look back.
At that time, my army in the Tang Dynasty was in its heyday.
The cavalry is equipped with a single soldier: a collar of Mingguang armor, three war horses, three collars of horse armor, a horse lance, a horizontal knife, a short axe, a round shield, a corner bow and crossbow with a range of 200 paces, and 30 arrows.
Infantry individual equipment: a collar of leather armor, a horse, a Mo knife, a long and short knife, a round shield, a crossbow with a range of 300 steps, and 30 arrows.
Horses are connected to horses. Yaks are connected to yaks. Pigs and sheep are connected to pigs and sheep. * Soldiers are in the middle of the pack, bowing their heads and moving forward. A month of special training and a month of slow marching were fruitful, and the soldiers gradually adapted to the pace of the slow march and the mountainous terrain.
The further up, the wilder and colder the wind becomes. The soldiers snuggled up in the middle of a wall of yaks and horses, and climbed up step by step. It's getting harder and harder to breathe, but luckily there are masks made of herbs, and the breath from those medicines makes us feel more or less comfortable.
Along the way, everyone has learned to restrain themselves, and the march is slow. At three o'clock, the vanguard troops ascended to a pass, and deep in the pass, there was a wide alpine plain. The general ordered his troops to march into the plains one after another and set up camp. It took more than an hour for all the follow-up troops to board.
The army was 20,000 men, but there were hundreds of thousands of horses and livestock. I found a boulder at the pass to keep out the wind, and I leaned against the rock wall and looked down, and it was a comical march - the horses and oxen, pigs, and sheep were mighty, but the soldiers were a little sparse.
Think about it. Probably this is how General Gao Xianzhi climbed over the Green Ridge. A large number of cattle, horses, pigs and sheep walked together, which could explore the road and step on the ground, which greatly reduced the difficulty of the follow-up troops' march. The yak's legs are short and sturdy, and their thick long hairs reach straight to the ground, which is like a mobile barrier for my soldiers against the bitter cold winds. In addition, they have long been accustomed to the climate of this plateau, and they walk calmly and vigorously, and the military horses are much more honest when they walk with them, otherwise it would be difficult for these military horses to march on this high mountain.
Surrounded by countless cattle and horses, the soldiers' fear of harsh environment was greatly reduced.
The march on that day lasted less than three hours. In the days that followed, the daily march time was very short, and in the case of bad terrain and weather, there was only one time of less than an hour allowed to march.
After the army was encamped, they made rice in pots, killed some pigs and sheep, cooked and eaten. In order to fend off the high cold, the march was almost entirely meat-based.
In the next three or five days, they climbed a few passes, and the army officially climbed the Green Ridge. The army is like a long snake climbing in the sky, and the earth in the distance is small.
Relying on the general's careful arrangement and the route provided by Anche Bishi, everyone got up late and went to bed early, and only marched for two or three hours at noon, and walked through the mountains and valleys all the way, and the march was quite stable.
The military medical corps of more than 600 people also gave full play to their role. Not only did they diagnose and treat the soldiers who were extremely unwell in the cold environment, but they were also responsible for finding clean water sources at every place they went to camp, and collecting plant roots, vines, and flowers around the water sources as shown in the graphics given by General Gao Xianzhi, and adding them to the soldiers' diets.
In the first ten days, after the daily march, I felt weak and groggy, and every time I drank the broth boiled by those herbs, my discomfort quickly improved, I slept soundly, and I did not feel tired at all when I woke up the next day. A month later, everyone basically adapted to the cold and suffocating weather in the Green Ridge. I think this is also the secret method that An Chebi taught to General Gao.
However, when crossing the Qingling, there was still a lot of panic, some pigs and sheep and a few untied military horses were swept up by the hurricane and fell into the valley, and a few timid soldiers panicked, and they were immediately swept up by the hurricane and thrown into the raging blizzard.
There were several valleys where the permafrost had melted, and a few yaks and horses had fallen into the mud. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The march was hard, but there were some differences from what Master Xuanzang said. In some valleys, the water and grass are abundant, the flowers are very beautiful, and the snow and ice are covered not far away, and the flowers under the feet are splendid, and the strange and enchanting is like heaven.
More than 20 days later, the army arrived at the Green Ridge to defend and capture, and after more than 20 days of westward travel, it arrived at the Bomi River; after more than 20 days, the Tang Dynasty army led by Gao Xianzhi finally arrived at the Telmanchuan River. This place is not far from Lianyunbao, a fortress on the border of Tibet.
Note: In the area of Tajik Autonomous County, Tashkurgan, Xinjiang, the large border army of Tang Kaiyuan is called the army, and the small one is called the guard: the commander is called the guard and capture.
It took more than 100 days for the army to start from Qiuzi to here, and the journey from Shule Town to Telle Manchuan was less than 800 miles, and it took more than two months, and the daily march was only more than 10 miles, which shows the steepness of the green ridge road.
When he came to Telmanchuan, the soldiers who had eaten fat meat for a month in Qiuzi have now been beaten back to their original shape, but they are more robust and have adapted to the cold climate of the Green Mountains and Tibet. The army not only overcame the hardships of the mountain march, but also managed to maintain sufficient combat effectiveness.
In Telmanchuan, General Gao Xianzhi ordered the soldiers and horses to be re-ordered, and ordered each soldier to bring enough water, food, and dried meat for three days. The rest of the cattle and sheep baggage were handed over to the competent baggage officer to escort and follow up in time.
Lianyunbao is built on a mountain peak, the east, west and south sides are full of cliffs and cliffs that cannot be attacked, although the north side is flat, but there is a natural danger of the Penchi River to obstruct, easy to defend and difficult to attack. Moreover, there were nearly 10,000 soldiers stationed inside and outside the fort, and this battle must be a quick victory.
So, the soldiers were divided into three ways. Zhao Chongjun led 3,000 cavalry to march from Beigu, Jia Chongjun marched from Chifotang Road, and Gao Xianzhi and Bian Lingcheng led the main force to march from Humiguo.
The three armies went their separate ways, and the speed was naturally much faster. Just after the afternoon Shen hour, the army had already arrived 3 miles away from the Bole River.
However, the spies came to report that the snow melted in the summer, and the water of the Penchi River swelled, and the army did not bring any equipment to cross the river, so they could not cross the river. The generals couldn't help but be shocked when they heard this, and Bian Lingcheng lowered his sharp voice even more, and kept asking Gao Xianzhi what to do.
The general ignored the eunuch.
Strange to say, General Gao and Bian Lingcheng have an ambiguous relationship, sometimes looking at General Gao is very afraid of Bian Lingcheng, that fear is not just because Bian Lingcheng is a prison sent by the emperor, that kind of fear, there is more helplessness and chagrin.
Gao Xianzhi instructed everyone to put away the flag tent, rest in place, not to camp, not to start a fire, only dry food and dried meat, and to satisfy their hunger with the medicine and wine prepared in advance.
20,000 men and horses quietly hid in a valley in front of the Bole River, and soon the sky darkened, and the army passed the most dangerous moment, and the possibility of exposing its tracks was minimized.
The starry sky on the plateau is exceptionally clear. The soldiers snuggled up to each other in groups to rest, but fortunately it was summer, and the cold at night was bearable.
"Raise the army, cross the river!" At the ugly moment, Gao Xianzhi gave the order to cross the river. Not only the herald, but also Li Siye, Duan Xiushi, and Bian Lingcheng were all stupid.
"Crazy, crazy. A few people muttered quietly, everyone couldn't believe that their wise and martial general Gao would give such a ridiculous order, how could they cross the river in the boiling cold water and there were no boats.
Military orders are hard to disobey. The generals had no choice but to gather their troops and horses and march towards the Penchi River.
Halfway through, a black-clad scout hurriedly came to report that the current of the Penchi River had become shallow, and that there was a stretch of width where the river was no more than a horse's knee.
It turned out that General Gao had already anticipated the opportunity, maybe this was also in the calculations of General Gao and An Che Bishi in those two days.
When everyone heard this, they were overjoyed. General Li Siye couldn't help but clench the long handle of the Mo knife, as if he was about to start a fight. Thinking about the boring march of more than a hundred days, the fierce bloody nature has been suppressed for too long.
The scout leads the way,* all the way to the shallow section of the river, and goes into the water to cross the river.
Just after the hour, the army crossed the river, and the array was neat.
General Gao, who had always been worried and forbearing, couldn't help but be happy at this time, and said with a smile to Bian Lingcheng, who was silent on the side: "If my army is halfway through and the Tubo army leads troops to kill, I will definitely be defeated." At this moment, our army is in a neat array, ready for battle, and the thieves are just probing for things!"
Gao Xianzhi immediately ordered: "Li Siye and Tian Zhen are the left and right Mo sword generals, and each leads 1,000 Mo sword men as the forwards, and they will attack Lianyun Castle, and the army will rush closely, and they will go down to this city before noon!"
The Mo Knife is my big* unique weapon, and it can be taller than a person when erected. The handle is three feet three inches long, the blade is four feet five inches, and the blade is two blades, which can be stabbed and chopped, cut and chopped, and is extremely powerful.
It is said that in a battle with the Turkic cavalry army, General Li Siye fought more than 100 Turkic elite cavalry with a single sword, and the big sword swept through, and the enemy army was shattered. The countries of the Western Regions regarded General Li as an evil ghost.
The general ordered. The herald said a flag. A hundred specially trained spider warriors quickly rushed to the city, threw a zipline and put it on the top of the city, and climbed the tower in an instant.
The soldiers defending the city were in a daze, and the spider warriors silently cut their throats without making a sound.
The land of the Western Regions, or the mountains or the desert, is difficult to transport such as crashes and ladder trucks, and it is almost useless. General Gao Xianzhi specially trained a group of spider warriors, specializing in the skills of climbing with bare hands and flying ropes to climb the city, coupled with excellent hand-to-hand combat skills, and repeatedly performed miraculous feats in the battle of climbing the city and breaking the door.
As soon as the gate opened, * poured in like a flood, and two thousand Mo swordsmen acted as vanguards, rushing left and right, killing the enemy like cutting melons and vegetables. When the defenders of the city heard that they were attacking,* they were horrified and disorganized, and had to be slaughtered.
In less than two hours of the whole battle, our army had more than 5,000 leaders and more than 1,000 prisoners, and the rest of the Tubo soldiers fled into the barren mountains and valleys.
In the battle of Lianyunbao, in addition to the military horses, grain, grass, clothing and armor, there was also a very special goods, which were sealed by General Gao himself, and later he wanted to attack Xiao Bolu, and he also specially left the Bian Lingcheng Supervision Army with more than 3,000 soldiers to garrison Lianyunbao, which seemed to be to take care of the goods. There were a lot of those things, and they filled five storerooms.
When I returned to Qiuzi after the war, I never saw the cargo again. At that time, it was estimated that it would take at least 50 military vehicles to fit it, and I am afraid that more than 300 yaks would be needed for cattle packs alone. Such a large amount of supplies disappeared without realizing it, so I remember this incident very clearly.
Three days later,* came to the Tanjuling Pass. At the foot of the ridge is the city of Abayue, which is the only way to the capital of the small Bolu country.
Waiting for * are two glaciers more than 20 miles long, the glaciers are undulating ice hills, ice towers, ice cliffs like walls, cracks like nets, if you don't pay attention, you will slide into the abyss, or fall into the glacier cracks and die. Even if you get to the bottom of the ridge, if you encounter an enemy ambush, you won't even have a way to retreat.
Facing the hellish steep and dangerous glacier, as the general expected, many soldiers were afraid to move forward, at this moment, more than 20 soldiers dressed as Anu Yue Hu people came, saying that the city lord of Anuyue sent them to meet the Tang Heavenly Army, and the city lord had sent someone to cut off the Suoyi Bridge and completely cut off contact with Tubo.
Suoyi Bridge is a rattan bridge on the water of Suoyi, which was built by the Tubo people for more than a year. This bridge is the only passage from Little Bolu to Tibet. If this bridge is broken, the passage of the Tibetan reinforcements will be cut off.
General Gao was immediately overjoyed, and even the herald of the banner said: Go down the mountain immediately and go straight to Anu Yue City.
It turned out that General Gao had long expected that the soldiers here might be afraid, so he sent more than 20 henchmen to disguise themselves as Anu Yue Hu people, and disguised themselves as the city lord of Anu Yue to surrender, dispelling the soldiers' doubts. The army was able to successfully climb down the Tanju Ridge.
Perhaps because he was afraid of the prestige of General Gao Xianzhi and the big * team, on the way to Anu Yue City, the city lord of Anu Yue really sent troops to ask for surrender.
