Chapter 3: Troubles
By the third day of life, the young dragons are able to run, bite, and try to hunt on their own.
All black dragons, old or young, strong or weak, have the same habits, and when hunting, they prefer to use ambush tactics instead of actively chasing and hunting, lying in ambush in muddy ponds and rivers, waiting for their prey to take the bait.
In the humus-strewn river, the three-headed young dragon lurks quietly under the silt at the bottom of the river, its dark scales providing the best camouflage, and they merge with the underlying mud, revealing only their erect pupils, like crocodiles, watching the swimming fish overhead, ready to attack.
Not far away, the mother black dragon gathered her breath and prostrate among the grass ferns to watch, watching the first predation of her offspring.
However, the result does not seem to be good, the afternoon passed, all three children of the Black Dragon Niang found nothing, and the young dragons were still too young to skillfully control their gradually formed "fierce momentum" ability (the legendary dragon power), causing the prey to be vigilant from a distance, and would not approach the ambush of the young dragon at all.
On the contrary, Caesar who was downstream often had swimming fish and prawns passing by, not because he was talented, but because this guy had not accepted the inheritance of the dragon and could not form a spell-like ability at all. In this case, the prey knew nothing about the little Caesar, who was crawling at the bottom of the silt.
But even so, he did not gain anything, the sensitivity of the otherworldly fish was far beyond Caesar's imagination, and whenever he was about to make a move, the fish could feel something strange from the vibration of the silt and the flow of the river, and they avoided it like frightened birds, and before he could pounce on the bottom of the river, the prey had already fled completely.
The other two broodlings didn't feel anything, and sooner or later they would become predators at the top of the food chain, and such a hunt was more of a leisure time for them.
But Caesar was not so comfortable, and the failure to hunt for food brought him a lot of frustration, so much so that when the young dragon crawled out of the bottom of the river, he couldn't help but sigh when he looked at his wet and filthy body.
"It's uncomfortable!"
To add insult to injury, over time, he gradually showed more differences from the other two dragons.
Most intuitively, both young dragons already possess "ferocious" momentum and can fly preliminarily, and they only need to gently shake their wings to rise off the ground.
Caesar, on the other hand, no matter how hard he tried to flap his wings and set off a whistling hurricane, could not let himself take off.
If you want to fly, you must obey the laws of physics, there is a fixed relationship between weight, power and wingspan, Caesar stared at the two young dragons, from the perspective of the earth, their wings, and even the black dragon lady's wings are a little small, and the rising force generated is simply not enough to support the dragon to fly.
The ratio of wings to body weight is seriously out of harmony, and it stands to reason that they are too heavy to fly.
However, dragons are magical creatures.
Wings are just a support for dragons, and what really makes them soar into the sky is magic, the dragon's natural ability.
This is the biggest difference between Caesar and the other two young dragons, without magic, the young dragons can easily do it, but to him it is like a moat.
However, Caesar was already mentally prepared and not too depressed, he knew that it was meaningless to compare with other young dragons, and the top priority now was to make himself strong as soon as possible, have a certain ability to protect himself in this dark area, and then leave the lair of the Black Dragon Lady.
Although the black dragons are not known for their wisdom, their black dragon mother is not wise either, but the level of intelligence is by no means much lower than that of an adult human, and as the young dragons grow up day by day, the black dragon lady will sooner or later notice the difference in Caesar.
As the most violent and vicious of the dragons, the world of black dragons is notoriously cruel, they are merciless in dealing with degraded defects, and the expulsion is light, in the face of the dragon beasts that have deceived them, the black dragon has the possibility of killing them directly.
Soon Caesar found that in the next few days, his food began to shrink, less than usual, a full thirty percent less, although the mother of the black dragon did not find out the truth, but also regarded him as an inferior young dragon that was not as developed as other dragons, and under the natural rules of survival of the fittest, he was naturally ignored by the mother dragon.
"That's not going to work." A few days later, Caesar crawled out of his mother's swamp lair while the black dragons were asleep.
Newborn broodlings need to eat large quantities to meet their needs for growth and development, but their mother's lazy temperament makes them unwilling to spend a little more energy hunting for inferior chicks, which causes Caesar's food supply to become less and less every day, even to a harsh level.
"Anyway, you can't die of hunger, what's more, isn't this cub able to eat soil?" This is the idea of the Black Dragon Mother.
Caesar knew that the situation would only get worse with time.
"Sooner or later, you're going to be played to death." Even though he has been devouring inorganic matter, the growth and development of the young dragon without sufficient nutrients has gradually stagnated.
During this time, his younger siblings have a tendency to approach or even surpass him in size.
But these two young dragons are pure real dragons, constantly acquiring dragon knowledge and awakening spell abilities, he is not comparable to them, Caesar does not care about being surpassed by the two young dragons, he just wants to grow up as much as possible, so that he has a certain amount of self-preservation.
"I can't count on the mother of the body anymore, I have to hunt by myself."
Caesar thought that if he continued to stay in the mud, the situation would deteriorate as the food decreased, and sooner or later he would lose the ability to continue growing. When his vicious mother discovers that he is nothing more than a remnant degenerate drake, he has no choice but to die.
Under these circumstances, Caesar decided to take the plunge and go out hunting alone.
I saw the little dragon swaying its tail, picking up the grass fern, burrowing into the dense bushes, and the slender body disappeared.
The jungle is a dangerous place for any newborn dragon, but he has no choice but to take a risk.
The young dragon carefully walked through the dense weeds and brambles, his heart beating nonstop, knowing that he was a pure novice, and that if he was not careful, he would go from being a predator to a target of hunting.
At this time, he must be careful and cautious enough to survive in this terrifying jungle of shadows.
Fortunately, Caesar had already made a detailed hunting plan and chose his target for prey: carnivorous mammals.
He is not as picky as ordinary black dragons, and he must be fish, shrimp and aquatic animals, and those ordinary creatures that are strong but do not have magical abilities are his best food today, providing him with plenty of fresh meat and nutrients.
But only if you catch them first.
Like otherworldly fish, mammals have a keen sense of hearing and smell, not to mention being in the jungle, where any wind or grass can alert these creatures.
Luckily, dragons, as predators at the top of the food chain, have evolved a series of highly adapted organs, and the fleshy protrusions at the base of their claws allow them to walk silently in the woodland.
Caesar's dragon wings were so small for his weight that he couldn't fly without using magic, but the lifting force generated by the flap of his wings was enough for him to glide gently across the humus-covered ground, making his movements more stealthy.
But that's not enough.
Caesar, who had had failed in fishing, knew that this alone was not enough to make him return with a full load, although he was strong and his scales were hard, but speed became the weakness of this young dragon, and the young dragon was seriously biased, and appeared sluggish and sluggish in terms of agility.
If you want to rely on conventional means such as raiding and hunting, it is simply difficult for Caesar to be strong, almost impossible.
You have to use your body more skillfully.
Caesar burrowed into the bushes, cut through the hard soil, and covered himself with black mud, feeling the wind flowing, and hibernating.
He's pinpointing the direction of the wind and picking where he can hunt.
After waiting for a while, when the smell of the black dragon lady on his body was almost gone, Caesar began to agitate his throat.
"Ho, ho......"
In the thorn obscuration, the young dragon let out a few pig calls.
