742 Spirit of Liverpool

Every year on April 15th, Anfield Stadium commemorates the Hillsborough massacre.

It's not even a Liverpool club thing, it's a tribute for the whole city of Liverpool.

But this year is a little different because it's the twentieth anniversary.

The whole city of Liverpool took this very seriously and started organising a series of preparatory activities a few days ago.

After reversing Liverpool in London last night, causing shock around the world, Liverpool returned overnight and then celebrated for two or three hours at the St Thomas Hotel.

In order to reward the players, the training session on the morning of the 15th was cancelled, but in order to participate in the afternoon memorial activities, the afternoon training session was scheduled to be held in the afternoon, just some simple recovery and adjustment training.

At fourteen o'clock, the team got on the bus and made it all the way to Anfield Stadium with hundreds of fans.

……

When the team arrived at Anfield, the stadium radio was playing the "You Never Walk Alone" anthem, which, according to Steven Gerrard, is a Liverpool tradition and would be repeated throughout the day.

When he heard this song before, Yang Yang still felt more enthusiasm, but today he sounded like he felt some pathos in a somewhat pathetic tone, as if this song was also a tribute.

In addition to Liverpool's first-team players, coaching staff, and club administrators and staff, there are also Liverpool legends, and more importantly, Liverpool city politicians and business celebrities.

For example, the mayor of Liverpool, Rotherlam, brought all the key members of the city government to Anfield, and the chairman of the Hillsborough Victims' Families Support Association, Treve Hicks, also brought the victims' families and core members of the support association to the scene.

Unlike in the past, Anfield today is full of tragedy.

The ceremony began promptly at 14:30 a.m.

Mayor Rotheram and the chairman of the support club, Trev Hicks, and others took the stage to give speeches, mainly to remind everyone that the tragedy of 20 years ago should never be forgotten.

"It is often said that time can heal everything, but it is not like that, time just helps us learn to cope with pain, we go from naked pain, treatment to being able to resist the attack of pain, but the pain still leaves an indelible scar in our hearts." The gray-haired Hicks said excitedly.

He was in the Sheffield United stadium at the time of the Hillsborough tragedy, when he just turned around to buy a cup of coffee, only to lose his two daughters in their prime.

Not long after the tragedy, he and his wife divorced because of this tragedy.

Hicks tearfully recounted the past twenty years of his life, saying that he had yelled at God countless times, asking him why he had taken both of his daughters with him. Why can't you just leave one?

He said that he had lost his faith, but he wished for heaven because he hoped that one day he would go to heaven and see his two daughters when he died.

After the divorce, he and his wife would sit at their graves every Christmas and their children's birthdays and talk to them about the events of the year.

"April 13 is Sarah's thirty-ninth birthday, if she's still alive."

Hicks said he and his ex-wife often talk on the phone, fantasizing about their daughter graduating from college, fantasizing about them getting a boyfriend, fantasizing about them getting married and having children, and even fantasizing about taking his grandson to Anfield to watch the game.

"We think about many, many good things, but when we wake up, it's another tragedy."

"The trauma caused by the tragedy will not be erased in 20 years, and all Liverpudlians will always remember this special day!"

……

Yang Yang has never been a weak person, but at this moment, standing in the Anfield stadium, listening to the appearance of the person concerned, watching a sixty-three-year-old man crying in front of him and recounting his past tragedy, he was really moved.

So much so that later, when he, along with captain Gerrard and vice-captain Carragher, was selected as the representative of Liverpool to present the families of the 96 victims with the certificate of "honorary citizen" issued by the Liverpool City Council, he sincerely comforted them from the bottom of his heart.

Hicks reluctantly cheered up and thanked Yang Yang for his comfort, saying that he was strong because he had more meaningful things to do, that is, to find justice for the Hillsborough tragedy.

There has been more and more evidence that the police were indeed suspected of covering up the truth and guilty of ineffective rescue.

What the families of the victims, led by Hicks, hope for most is to get an open investigation so that the ninety-six victims will not go alone!

"According to British statistics, the average time it takes to clear an unjust case is 26 years, which is a protracted battle."

Hicks's tone was so firm that Yang Yang felt that this might be the meaning of his active life.

……

At 15:06 a.m., Liverpool, Sheffield and Nottingham, the three cities directly related to the Hillsborough tragedy, were silent for two minutes to mourn the tragedy 20 years ago.

The entire Anfield stadium was silent, as if even the air had frozen.

Two minutes later, the cathedrals of the three cities will ring 96 bells at the same time to commemorate the 96 fans who were killed.

Subsequently, Liverpool Mayor Rotherlam greeted the 96 families on behalf of the government, while reading out a letter of condolence from Queen of England and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

"We will never forget the 96 people who tragically lost their lives, the families who lost their loved ones in the disaster, who had the support of all decent people in the country."

'I think that's the most important thing, it makes people understand that Liverpool fans are helping each other and that their actions are noble.

'We all know Liverpudlians, they help each other in difficult situations, that's the Liverpool spirit!'

……

At the scene, Yang Yang was deeply touched.

From the Queen of England to the Prime Minister to the City Council of Liverpool, almost everyone is supporting Liverpool and the families of the victims, believing that justice should come soon.

But his mood was never happy, and he was a little heavy.

He'd never experienced anything like it before, and now he felt what makes Liverpool so special, because it's more than just a football team, it's more than a club, it's a symbol of spirit.

Gerrard also had relatives who died in the Hillsborough tragedy, and is said to be the youngest of the ninety-six victims, who was his cousin and his best friend, so much so that when he plays football now, he is always very desperate, because he is not only playing for himself, but also for his dead cousin.

The reason why he rejected Chelsea back then was because he, like Trev Hicks and others, was sticking to it, waiting for that belated justice.

……

"This event brought back some very bad memories."

After the 20th anniversary celebrations, Liverpool's celebrities and players gathered at Anfield, and legendary goalscorer Ian Rush looked a little lonely, shaking his head and sighing.

He was a witness to the catastrophe that year, and for the past 20 years, he has come to Anfield Stadium almost every year on the anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

"It has convinced me that the fight for justice must be persevered and that the families who are suffering should be treated fairly."

As he said this, Ian Rush looked up at the likes of Yang Yang, Steven Gerrard, Carragher and Xavi Alonso, and the former legend forced a smile.

"I believe that today's commemoration will give you the encouragement and strength that we have forgotten for too long that we were once the team at the top of European football, and that the regrets that those of us failed to achieve back then are likely to be realized in your hands this year."

Even in the strongest period, when Liverpool swept European football, it failed to go hand in hand on four fronts like the current Liverpool, which is an unprecedented feat in Liverpool's history.

The league is basically in the bag, with the Champions League and FA Cup left to remain.

At the commemoration just now, Dalglish was a little emotional and said a lot, because when the tragedy happened, his two children were also in the stadium, but fortunately, they both escaped, but the king of Liverpool was the head coach of Liverpool when the tragedy happened, and he was a witness to the tragedy.

After calming down, he also put forward expectations for Yang Yang, Gerald and others, hoping that they could get strength from the commemoration activities, and be able to make persistent efforts to show better and better performances to comfort those victims and their families.

"That's the spirit of our Liverpool!" Dalglish looked at Yang Yang and said.

Yang Yang nodded heavily, he felt it.

It is a great spirit, not only the memory of the victims, but also the sorrow of the tragedy, the struggle against the government at the time, and the perseverance in the face of the false reports of the Sun, and the perseverance that has lasted for 20 years......

This kind of very complex emotion is really impossible to experience without experiencing it in person.

And Yang Yang finally felt something now, although it was only scratching the surface, he was deeply affected and was willing to fight for it!

It was also at this moment that he really felt why Liverpool, from the team to the players to the fans, this team is so different.

Perhaps, just like Liverpool's team song, this team will never walk alone, because on its shoulders, it will always carry too much heavy history, which is the burden and pressure, but at the same time it is the motivation.

"Don't worry, I'll do my best!" Yang Yang solemnly assured.

He can't guarantee that the team will win, or that the team will live up to the expectations of the fans and celebrities, because the football field is always full of unpredictable changes.

But he can promise one thing, and that is that as long as he is there, he will do his best to get better results for the team.

He believes that not only himself, but also Xavi Alonso, Kuyt and everyone else in the team must be with the same determination as him. 2k reading web
