Volume II, Chapter 188: Whale Oil

The whale is very large, and the resources it can bring me are extremely rich, but everything has advantages and disadvantages, and it is much more difficult to deal with than the previous sharks!

It may be more difficult to deal with than the original crocodile, which is very simple after removing the skin, and its fat is dozens of centimeters thick.

The dagger obviously couldn't help it, and had to choose the long knife to solve the problem, and even if I chose it wisely, it was only after the long knife had no handle that it barely pierced the fat layer.

Killer whales don't have ambergris on them, so my goal is also clear, which is whale meat and whale oil.

This can be regarded as an alternative pinnacle of life, to have the opportunity to taste the legendary level of whale meat, in the normal trajectory of life to taste whale meat should be difficult!

Thinking of this, I still have some expectations, after all, it can be regarded as one of the mammals, and I believe that the meat quality is better than that of fish.

Of course, whale meat is only a backup option, and the most important thing for me is whale oil, which is simply coveted to the point of salivating.

In ancient times, whale oil was a very important resource and energy source, and in some cases, national forces were even mobilized to hunt whales on a large scale in order to obtain more whale oil.

Because in that era of insufficient electricity or no electricity, whale oil should be the best material for making candles, a hundred tons of blue whales can produce thirty or forty tons of oil, far more than the oil obtained from cattle and sheep, and the candles that can be made are even more massive.

This killer whale is quite small in the whole whale population, weighing only three or five tons, but it is not small for me at all, and it is impossible to even move it.

There are a lot of whale oil, and the preliminary estimate is close to one ton, and two thousand catties of whale oil must not only be cut off and transported home as soon as possible, but also immediately processed.

Otherwise, it will stink and spoil like fish, and then not only will the beach stink, but the whale oil piled up at home will also smell and stink!

......

Even though I was mentally prepared, I still underestimated the difficulty of dissecting whales, which was much more difficult than dissecting crocodiles in the first place.

It's not easy to cut it, it's not easy to cut off a piece, you have to move it away, and then it's not easy to cut it and move it again, and it takes at least several tosses to completely cut a small area, and the whole person is covered with blood.

Fortunately, I took off my clothes wisely before I started, otherwise it would have been a very troublesome job to do laundry later!

After opening a hole, I didn't care much, and boldly went directly into the whale's stomach to cut the fish's flesh, anyway, my whole body was already drenched in whale blood.

I have to admire the size of these big fish, the space in the belly of the whale, which is only six or seven meters long, is very large, I don't feel crowded at all when I get in, and there is no obstacle to cutting whale oil.

While one side is harvesting whale oil and taking it home, the other side is also stepping up to deal with it to reduce the pressure on the back.

Of course, I don't have a doppelganger itself, I just light the fire in the stove and boil the whale oil in a pot, and every once in a while I will carry the whale oil back, just enough to add firewood and change a new pot of oil.

The chance of accidents after grasping the rhythm is very small, although it is very busy, but it is also stable in the busy!

The form of the treated grease is almost no different from ordinary grease, so the liquid can be poured directly into a large clay jar to cool and solidify.

At this time, the state is similar to the mutton fat boiled, and now I can make candles immediately, but I can't spare my hands.

The fish oil was collected in an orderly manner, but the fish made me look forward to what it would taste like, so the whale meat was on the table a few hours after the whale was processed.

In appearance, the whale meat is somewhat similar to beef, the color is very bright red, it smells fishy, and the fiber seems to be relatively thick.

Seeing that the meat is similar to beef, I didn't make any bells and whistles, and fried it like a steak.

The time to look forward to is when you can finally taste the legendary whale meat, but the joy lasts less than two minutes before being defeated by reality!

The finished product is not as good as imagined, even after the joint action of several seasonings, the meat still has a little fishy smell, and the meat taste is not outstanding, similar to crocodile meat, very chai, the taste is very rough, but it is not as good as crocodile meat, there is no highlight worth mentioning.

......

In general, I don't like it very much, and I can barely accept it, but I don't have the kind of anticipation I started with, and the two hundred pounds I moved home have also reached the peak, and I won't grow anymore, and I'm a little disappointed.

For the next day or so, I was still "fighting" with the whales, but I didn't increase the reserves of fish meat, and all my energy was focused on carrying fish oil, trying to get as much as possible, and it was best to carry all the whale oil home.

Such an opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and the chance that it will not be encountered again after this time is very small, and theoretically it is basically impossible to encounter it again!

With enough fish oil, the previous reluctance to light candles will not happen again, and every time you go into the cellar to light the candles, you can directly let the candles burn in the cellar for a long time in the future, and you don't have to touch the dark in the room at night, and there is no problem with lighting all night.

It's a good feeling to get rich overnight, and I've fallen in love with it......

The weather in June was not mild, and the heat of nearly 35 degrees Celsius made the fish spoil very quickly, and it was only about two days since the whale died, and the fish was already emitting a rotting smell and smelling somewhat pungent.

The smell would get more and more intense over time, and I knew I should stay away from it!

Fortunately, I have the foresight to speed up the collection, and if I do it lazily, I am afraid that the results will be far from the expected quantity.

Most of the whale oil has been taken back to the house, and it is estimated that there are still three to five hundred catties that are not easy to collect and give up, the main reason is that it is already emitting smells, and the ones collected at home are also in urgent need of disposal.

In the past two days, the stove that started work at the same time as me refined nearly 1,000 catties of fish and meat, which could be filled in two clay jars at first, but then it could only be held in four or five large clay pots, and then there were no containers for it.

......

The whale oil shipped home is about 1,500 catties, and there must be a small part after refining, and the process is similar to refining lard to remove the oil residue.

Even so, the total amount is more than 1,200 catties, and two clay pots and a few clay pots can only hold 700 catties, that is, about half, and the rest is a bit of a headache.

But time waits for no one, and the remaining nearly half has to be refined, and at this time they are gradually exuding a slight smell, and it will become stronger and stronger, and if you continue to delay, you can only throw it away in the end!

In the end, I had to take a helpless move, pick up the bricks on the ground in the middle of the house, and dig a large pit of about half a cubic meter to hold the refining of 500 catties of whale oil.

Of course, this is only a stopgap measure, and long-term storage in it is definitely not an option for me.

The rest of the whale oil took another day to refine, and in the end it even had an obvious smell, but it was not thrown away and turned into oil, but fortunately, the taste was much lighter after refining.

I was relieved to have all the whale oil refined, and I had been dealing with whales for several days in a row, which didn't seem too difficult on the surface, but in fact it was even more annoying than moving bricks.

Not only is he physically and mentally exhausted, but he is also stained with oil and smell all over his body, and if he hadn't made soap before, he wouldn't have been able to wash off the oil!

The first stage was passed smoothly, but it did not mean that it was time to be lazy, so much oil should be made into candles and preserved, and a part of the containers should be emptied, and almost all the containers that can be used at present have been requisitioned by it.

And the hundreds of catties in the big pit must also be disposed of as soon as possible, it is easy to deteriorate after too long.

Most of the next few days were spent making whale oil into candles, the process was actually not difficult, the only trouble was that it required a lot of bamboo tubes, after all, it was equivalent to disposable molds.

......

That's right, the molds for making candles are all made of bamboo tubes, choose some bamboo that is two fingers thick to the thickness of the wrist, cut them into bamboo tubes, and after a little modification, you can turn them into a candle mold.

The re-boiled fish oil is then poured into a cleaned bamboo tube and a wick is placed in the middle, and it only takes an hour or two to completely solidify.

The rope used for the wick last time I made the mutton fat candle remains the same this time, but luckily the rope is long enough to worry about not having enough wicks.

The solidified candle is already in the full state of a candle, and it only needs to be cut from both sides of the bamboo tube to obtain a cylindrical candle.

The process is as simple as playing with mud when I was a child, and it is also very fun, but when it reaches a certain amount, it doesn't make people think like that, and after a long time, it is always a little boring.

In fact, I really wanted to make all the whale oil into candles, but in the end, after making all the fish oil in the big pit in the room into candles, the whole person was about to go crazy, and the ones in other containers could only be put on hold first.

The need to store the candles for a long time was another problem, but it didn't bother me, and there were still a lot of planks that I had picked up and leftover from the car.

Rather than being idle, I made them into two large wooden boxes, and the finished candles were packed into them and placed in the cellar, so that they would not re-melt when stored at low temperatures.

By backfilling the large pit in the room with mud and laying bricks, the whale oil matter was finally put to an end for the time being, and I was able to return to my usual idle state!

Happily, the nights will no longer be dark, the cellars will be brighter, I will have plenty of candles to squander, and I will not have to worry about lighting for ten years.

The effect of whale oil is not inferior to that of modern candles, and it is naturally much stronger than that of sheep fat candles, not only is its diameter relatively large, but the diameter of the wick is even thicker, almost similar to the ability of a small torch.

It also has plenty of burning time, and a candle with a diameter of 3 centimeters and a length of 30 centimeters can last for several hours without burning out.

If you put a bowl at the bottom of the candle, you can collect the dripping whale oil into the bowl and burn longer.
