Volume 1 Chapter 30 A Blessing in Disguise
I'm going to go to the woods again, there is still a quarter of the area that I haven't walked in the past few days, and I can't miss this opportunity when the weeds have dried up in winter.
Everything worked fine for the first hour, but during the march I accidentally stepped on the air!
Wow~~~ Rely on !!
The moment I fell to the ground, I began to roll down the hill, knowing that I was at least 50 meters from the bottom beach, and although it was not steep, the consequences of rolling to the bottom were needless to say.
After a few laps, I managed to control my body and slid downwards instead of rolling, and I began to grapple my teeth and claws at the weeds and vines that kept passing me.
Now in this situation, I wish I had three heads and six arms, as long as I can catch it, I want to grab a handful, but the weeds next to me can't withstand the impact of the fall, and it will break as soon as I pull it, and my heart has been raised to my throat!
My body was still sliding downward, and after ten meters there was a steep slope with a very large angle, and the only thing that could stop me was two small trees four meters away and seven meters away, and if I hadn't caught them, I might have died here today......
Although I was panicked, I could only keep myself relatively calm, and thanks to the help of the hay in the woods, my speed of descent was reduced a little, but my butt was already grinding painfully, and there were still many places where I was slid by some small stumps.
It was too late, that is, I grabbed the first small tree in a second or two, but what I didn't expect was that the human body was descending harder, and I slipped off without grasping my hand.
The 100% chance is now 50% left, which is very panicked!
But this time is not useless, at least reduce the speed of descent by half, the next tree will be less difficult to grasp, two seconds later, everything is as I expected, I firmly grasp this life-saving straw, the small life saved!
......
The roller coaster-like experience made my heart sound like a drum, and I could even hear it clearly in my ears, and I was still resting with the trunk of the tree, which was too much mental drain for a few tens of seconds.
Thanks to God's grace not to kill, I pulled the trunk and rested for three minutes to stabilize my body and mood before climbing up again.
Hiss~~~
The pain in my body made me grin, and I pulled back my clothes and pants to check the severity of the injury, and there was a sharp pain in the writhing.
The first serious one was on the thigh, where at least two small stump cuts were oozing blood, one on the buttocks, and then one on the back.
Although it was not to the extent of breaking the muscles and bones, it was not lightly injured, especially the pants in the thigh area were already the size of a palm and stained red with blood, and I began to look for some white grass root fluff in the forest.
There were quite a few of them in the woods, and in less than ten minutes, the wounds on their bodies were covered with a layer of cover.
Exploring the woods was no longer possible, and with every step I took forward, I felt pain in my legs and back, and I could imagine that it might be even worse when I went to bed at night.
The progress is slow and hilarious, like a child who has just learned to walk......
Originally, there would be no more stories here, but on the way home, I saw a rock the size of a football on the side of the road.
Of course, the stone is very common, but its color is the original culprit that attracts me, and the whole golden color is so dazzling that I have a strong interest in it, and I am not even in a hurry to go home to recuperate.
When I got closer, I found that it was a little different from what I expected, I naively thought it was a piece of gold ore, but it was actually a piece of copper ore!
......
In terms of actual value, copper ore seems to have a greater effect on me at present, and it seems that it is a blessing due to "disaster", of course, this disaster is more exciting, I feel that with the degree of my injury, a piece of copper ore can not soothe my injured body and mind! ......
This stone should weigh more than ten catties, and the injury on my back made me no longer able to carry the basket, so I could only carry it home with my hands.
The injuries on my body stopped bleeding, although I spilled a little more on the road, fortunately, it was not serious, and I had no better way to treat it when I got home, so I could only tear off a piece of my shirt and wrap it around the most serious leg as a bandage, and then I could only heal by my own efforts!
I don't know where this copper ore came from, it's so abruptly there, there are no copper ore or other ores around, there is a strange haunting in my heart, this may be an unsolvable mystery!
The role of brass in my case must be the first choice to make various tools, the earliest metal tool in ancient China was brass thousands of years ago, and then it evolved into bronze, and then iron.
I had already thought about what I would do with it, and from the moment I picked it up, I didn't hesitate to make a hoe by melting the copper ore.
My mood is excited, because the most boring land reclamation and all kinds of dredging work will be much easier if there is a metal hoe to help, the efficiency will skyrocket, and the labor intensity will plummet!
It's just that I'm more worried about how much will be left after melting and removing impurities, whether it is enough to make a hoe, so as not to make the heart happy in the end!
One of the shortcomings of brass is that the material is relatively soft, and because there is no tin on the island, it has become a luxury to want to make more suitable bronze, and the lack of hardness will be the biggest problem, which also makes me worry about the overwhelm when using!
However, you always have to try to know the result, and without further ado, refining copper ore requires a special small furnace, otherwise the copper will flow directly to the ground after hydration.
......
I first used the clay left over from the previous pottery and mixed it with water, and then made a small coal stove similar to the previous home, which should be about 50 centimeters high.
The whole thing is cylindrical except for the bottom, and I have specially concave a line at the bottom and a diversion groove several centimeters long has been laid out on the outside of the furnace, so that the molten copper water will flow down the sink until it reaches the mold I made, and will not remain in the furnace.
The part of the mold will also be like most modern molds, absorbing the essence of the times, its shape is similar to two bricks, the model that needs to be made forms a cavity inside the two bricks, and there will be a small hole at the top to flow into the copper water, and the copper water will cool down and then remove the mold is basically completed.
The material of the mold is also made of clay, but the shape inside stumped me, and after thinking for a long time, I finally found a thick shell of a banana tree, which was shaped into a hoe by using a knife, and pressed it into the middle of the two molds and closed it.
Looking at the darkening sky, today's work is over, this day is full of pain, excitement and surprises, it is not an exaggeration to say that it is two days of ice and fire......
There are still a few days before the copper water, because I need to wait for the furnace to dry out a little more, in general, copper making is not a technically complicated thing, but because of the anticipation of the hoe, I have recently lost the idea of opening up the wasteland.
In the last few days, I've started to stop and do other things, such as fishing, patrolling the islands, and preparing the charcoal needed for copper smelting!
Four days later, seeing that the furnace was almost dry, I began to fossilize the copper ore into molten copper, and I was already impatient with it.
After the fire is lit at the bottom of the furnace, the collected charcoal is poured into the furnace, and the copper ore is placed on top, and over time, all the charcoal in the furnace is ignited.
I could feel the slowly rising temperature even if I stood a meter away, but at this time, I found that because the fire was slow and not fast enough, the temperature inside could not reach the temperature of melting copper!
......
Looking at the top of the roof, which was already very close to melting, and even the surface of the stone could see a trace of wetness, I only knew that it only took a little help to succeed.
I used my only book to make a hand-cranked fan, and sometimes it's so weird, like a man overboard, you just have to give it a straw to almost save his life.
And this piece of copper is just a breath away, and after less than a minute of fanning with the book, the stone on the top began to slowly melt.
I think it must have been touched by my sincerity!
However, later I found out that I had put the stone too high, put it in the upper part of the furnace and covered the stone with a layer of charcoal, and with my constant air supply, the speed of water was significantly increased several times!
After three or five minutes, the copper water began to come out at the tip of the deflector groove at the bottom of the furnace, and I had already aligned the small hole of the mold under it, and the copper water flowed directly into the mold, and as I kept adding new charcoal, the copper ore was all melted after more than half an hour, and the basic work was all over.
After filling the mold, the excess copper water dripped onto the top of the mold, about the size of an egg, and it seems that the problem of insufficient copper water that I was worried about at first is no longer to worry about.
After determining the tight fit of the mold, the next thing is to wait for it to cool and set, and even whether it can be successful or not I still have no bottom in my heart, only the moment it is opened can the answer be revealed!
After two or three hours, I felt the temperature on the outside of the mold and knew that it had completely cooled, I tried to open the mold, but found that the bite inside was very tight, and I couldn't open it at all, so I could only use brute force, I used stones to slowly break the mold made of clay, and finally the formed hoe was finally presented in front of my eyes.
......
After molding, the copper hoe is 15 centimeters wide and 30 centimeters long, with a thick bottom of about five millimeters, and the mouth that directly touches the ground is thinner, but now it is still very ugly, stained with mud, not to mention, the edge is full of burrs, and it can only be put into use after trimming.
After cleaning it up to the eye, I put on the hoe handle I had prepared in advance and took it to the ground to test it, and behaved extremely roughly.
The result of the test is that the hardness is indeed not ideal, not up to the hoe made of modern technology and materials, but it is not as soft as I imagined, as long as you don't dig the stone, it will not be deformed easily!
There is still a way to solve it, and when digging the ground, you can accept the usual digging to shovel soil, because you don't need to shovel the soil too hard, and there will be no big deformation after hitting the stone.
Of course, even if you have to sort out a gap for the hoe every three or two hours, the efficiency is still several times higher than that of the previous use of tree branches to open up wasteland, and at least 50 square meters of new land can be opened in one day!
And the wound on my body has basically scarred after four or five days of recovery, at first I was worried about whether it would be infected or something, but it may be the reason for the low temperature, fortunately not, just a slight suppuration!
