Volume 1 Chapter 45 Oil Extraction Tools

Thinking that the food needs of a person and a group of sheep are indeed not small, it seems that the vegetable planting area of the next season should be expanded to half an acre, supplemented by some grass to achieve the basic bottom line.

And it may be planted in July and August before the first crop is harvested, and the one acre of land that can be used is not enough.

However, the temperature is already very high, and half of the day can only do light work to prevent heat stroke.

The remaining morning and evening add up to five or six hours to do manual work, and of course the efficiency is reduced a lot, in addition to the lack of freedom of time, you must also wear a heavy hat on your head.

It took more than a week to expand the half-acre of land, compared to four to five days before.

After solving the problem of falling off the ground, I started the idea of squeezing oil again, and I only had less than 10 catties of peanuts at home, but I only had to wait about three months to harvest the peanuts.

The expected quantity can also reach at least one or two hundred catties, and their existence itself is to extract oil to solve the problem of lack of edible oil!

What I thought in my heart was that I would have to make such a set of equipment sooner or later anyway, so it was better to make it in advance while I had time to spare.

After the peanuts are dried, they can be pressed in the first time, and they can enter three meals a day more quickly!

Strictly speaking, I haven't eaten a drop of fat since I went to the island for nearly a year, and the fat of wild goats is not much, and three or five catties is better than nothing, and there is no oil and water on all kinds of fish.

Until now, there are more or less problems with the body, but it has not seriously affected the usual movements.

Although oyster sauce also has some of the functions of oil, it is more used as a condiment, and now that I think about it, I still think that it is quite necessary to solve it as soon as possible!

......

The depressing thing happened again, before making the oil extraction tool, you must first make a chisel to chisel the stone, otherwise the plan in your mind will not be implemented at all, that is, you will have to open the furnace to make iron again.

The chisel was one of the tools used by stonemasons many years ago, and it was almost always used in the days before modern power tools, and I must make it now, otherwise the hard stone will not move at all.

Thanks to the fact that there are not many materials needed, about half a catty, less than a catty left after making an axe and kitchen knife last time, plus I picked up garbage by the beach a few days ago and dismantled a small piece of iron, it should be enough!

Modern chisels are mostly made of steel, and iron may be less hard, but now there seems to be no alternative.

To be honest, I don't have a good impression of ironmaking now, and I don't even want to touch it, mainly because the weather is too hot now, and the high temperature and the temperature in the furnace are uncomfortable!

With my quick action, after nearly two hours, I got a chisel with a length of thirty centimeters and a diameter of about two centimeters......

It weighs about a pound, and its shape is actually a cylindrical iron rod, one end of which is pointed, a bit like a needle magnified countless times.

When used, the blunt end is struck with a hammer, and the pointed end directly chisels the stone, but in the absence of a hammer, it can only be struck with an axe, which is more laborious.

The reason for making it coarser is that I am worried that the hardness is not enough, and whether it is good or not is another matter, at least it has reached the stage of starting from scratch!

......

The problem of oil extraction is more complicated, because it requires a very large and continuous and stable force to slowly produce oil under squeezing, not that it will produce oil when smashed with an axe.

At first, I thought of adding stones to the peanuts so that they could produce oil when they reached a certain weight, and then I thought of smashing them violently, but in the end, I thought about it again and again.

The probability of success is too small, not to mention, the operation is too cumbersome, and it is directly ruled out!

Finally, inspired by the seesaw when I was a child, I came up with the principle of levers, which should be the most likely to succeed, not only is it easier to operate, but the force it exerts is also more stable.

My solution is definitely different from a seesaw, it needs a more robust structure, and one end can withstand at least 500 catties or even more than 1,000 catties of force.

That's why I had the idea of making a chisel, otherwise I would be reluctant to use the little iron I had left to make this thing.

The selected location is not far from the well, and the entire back hill is basically made of rock, which is very suitable for the end of the lever fixation.

In the first step, I used a chisel and an axe to dig a small circular hole with a diameter of 20 centimeters and a depth of 30 centimeters at a height of one meter in the rock of the mountain wall.

The work of chiseling stones is extremely hard, even if the amount of work to chisel small holes is not large, I hate to chisel stones very much, not only consumes physical strength, but also there will be small stones flying around, hitting the face "bang" is very painful, and accidentally will get into the eyes!

The hardness of the stone wall made me change three positions before it was successfully excavated, and by constantly changing the position, I found that the stone with slightly lower hardness was much less labor-saving, and it was really a sneaky and slippery style!

The second step is to build a pile of relatively regular and solid stones two meters from the mountain wall, the height is almost one meter five, the requirements are not too much, but the first requirement is to be strong, not to be crushed by the weight of the later pressing!

This is also a headache, all the stones need to be slowly found in the woods and carried back one by one after trimming the shape, and the gluing is also made of wet mud.

Get it done well and you'll be at least halfway there.

The top of the pile was especially important, so a large slate was chosen where the peanuts would be placed.

Therefore, it is required to be thicker and at the same time, it must be trimmed, so that it has several grooves, so that the oil will not overflow in all directions, and flow directly along the diversion groove into the container below.

A layer of slate will be pressed on top of the wrapped peanut kernels to make it evenly stressed.

Finally, a thigh-thick trunk nearly five meters long will be inserted into a small hole in the mountain wall at one end, placed on a peanut slate in the middle, and the other end will be hoisted with a solid net of about one square meter with a rope.

By increasing the number of stones, the weight is increasing until the peanuts are oily, of course, this method is also very laborious, but I can't think of a better solution!

......

As the days go by, the lamb is also growing rapidly, and now its size is close to about half of that of an adult sheep, which is the stage when it loves to play the most.

Almost every day, I find time to play with a few lambs, and it is very fun to pass the time when I am bored!

But I've recently suffered anorexia again, but not really anorexic, but with no interest in almost the same ingredients every day, and I've reverted back to eating fish twice a day, and eating is like a routine!

During this time, the main ingredients such as sweet potatoes and corn have not yet been harvested, and the sheep are reluctant to kill, so the daily staple food is fish, supplemented by green vegetables and a small amount of seafood.

At the same time, there was a drought before, and there was no rain for ten consecutive days to dry up the well again, which is also directly related to the high temperature, and it is gratifying that the sea water only boiled for one day and then it rained to alleviate the drought!

The temperature is also getting higher and higher, and you can only go out for five or six hours a day in the morning and dusk, otherwise it will be cloudy or cloudy, and many things you want to do will stop.

Fishing has also become less frequent, as the water in the pond disappears too quickly, and the water has to be fetched at least three times a day to meet the consumption.

Even so, because the temperature is too high, fish will die in the pond one after another.

Now that the fish pond has less than 100 catties of fish, I will not increase it, rather than wasting it in vain, and sometimes even stinky when I find it, it is better to make less effort.

But there is more time to catch seafood, yesterday the luck of going to the sea can be described as bursting, not only caught five abalone, the most critical catch two lobsters, looking at a lobster of two or three catties, my saliva almost flowed down directly!

Because of the large size of the two ones, I had to put one of them in the fish pond, and the other one was steamed by me and then stir-fried in a pot with oyster sauce and salt......

The days of summer are always very slow, because there is not much busy time in the day, and the cool takes up half of the day, how I want to stay in an air-conditioned place now, even two popsicles can make me excited for a long time.

......

In the end, I couldn't bear it anymore, and I wanted to wait for the Chinese New Year to slaughter one of the big sheep, but now the food is too monotonous and the taste of the mutton is constantly convincing me to kill the sheep.

I've compromised in the recent period of food torture!

Among the four big sheep, there are two rams and two ewes, and the ewes are still very difficult to kill, so they can only put the target on the ram again.

At this time, the choice is easier, which one is fatter and which one.

With the dagger, killing sheep has become very simple, and with me in wild mode, it will all be dismantled in about an hour.

It's just that before killing the sheep, I still knocked the sheep unconscious like last time, after all, I am also a member of the family, so I should try to be as humane as possible.

There is only one ram and two ewes left of the adult sheep, but this worry is unwarranted after seeing three and a half large sheep, and in a few months there will be six adult sheep again!

Summer meat is spoiled in less than a day, and it can even be said that subtle changes occur every moment.

Therefore, in addition to the amount of two meals left, the other nearly 40 catties of meat must be processed within today.

In winter, when the temperature is low, it can be made into smoked meat for many days, but now it will definitely have a certain flavor or a slight smell, so I plan to make lamb jerky so that every bit of meat that I have killed with great determination is not wasted.

Except for the leg of lamb and the head of the lamb, the best lamb is cut into thin slices, and the lamb bones are also cut as small as possible.

Blanch to remove the blood foam, then put it in a pot and simmer for an hour, then let it cool, add water, add oyster sauce and more salt to it, and continue to cover and cook for an hour.

After cooling, take it directly to the sun to dry, because the sun is big enough now that it will be more convenient and safe than baking, and baking may have the possibility of burning!

At this time, it is very delicious, there is a feeling similar to beef jerky, and the taste is still worse than that.

The next day, after another day of drying, it was successfully made into hard lamb jerky.

I put them all in a clay pot and kept them, which should last for a long time, but maybe they can only be eaten as snacks or stews in the future, and don't think about delicious lamb skewers!
