Volume II: Chapter 165: The Cellar Down

The order of digging is carried out in the order of priority that is most beneficial to me, starting with the first place.

After the preparation is completed, it is directly excavated parallel to the ground, but considering the problem of water accumulation in the rain, the ground at the entrance of the cave is 20 centimeters higher than the ground outside, so there is no need to worry about the trouble of rainwater backing up or flooding into it when it rains.

It's just that things went unexpectedly, the excavation work went reasonably well on the first day, and there were problems on the second day!

It's just a matter of whatever comes to mind, and after the soil on the outside is dug up, there is a hard stone wall inside, not just a few stones.

If I had a mechanical tool, I would definitely not hesitate to choose it, because the stone cave is stronger than concrete, so I don't have to worry about safety at all.

Unfortunately, I now had only a few pieces of iron work on hand, and I was faced with five to ten times more work than digging a cellar of pure soil structure, so I had to give up and choose to excavate in a second location.

One of the troubles in the second place is to dig a road from one side to the mountain wall before excavating, otherwise it will be a problem to get through.

Although it took half a day, it paid off, and the excavation process went quite smoothly, digging directly into the mountain wall to a depth of two meters in the first three days.

The width is also one meter two, the height is one meter eight, standing outside to see that it is a cave, but the size of the hole is much smaller, only 80 centimeters wide, 1.5 meters high.

The purpose of this is to prevent the outside air from entering the inside excessively, causing the lower temperature inside to be assimilated after the fusion of the outside temperature, and finally it will not play a cooling role!

The inside is generally quite dry, and there is no water seepage, which also makes me breathe a sigh of relief, if there is water seepage, then the four days of hard work will be in vain.

The process of digging the cellar was not fun at all, only inner torment, because every moment you have to worry about whether the next hoe will dig up the stones, and if there are large stones behind you, it is likely to lead to failure.

Even after digging a cave, I am still full of apprehension, after all, a small cave has not even completed a third of the work, and I don't know when I want to finish it.

......

Originally, I was supposed to continue construction and chase after the victory, but at this time my mentality collapsed!

I didn't dare to dig any longer, for fear that dirt would fall on my head and hit me like the cave I lived in when I first went to the island, and even bury me in it.

The probability of a landslide is not large, but it is not impossible, there are all kinds of strange things in the world, and many times there are all kinds of coincidences that even science can't explain, and after seeing more, the natural courage is even smaller!

I'm going to use some wood to reinforce the top of the hollowed-out cave first, even if it's just a simple reinforcement, it will make my heart feel a little stronger.

Working in a cave with insufficient light and limited space is about to suffer from claustrophobia, and if you lack a sense of security, people's emotions in it may change!

You must know that people's thinking is always changeable, there are always various delusions of victimization, and the result of insecurity may lead to a great reduction in work efficiency.

Of course, at present, it is only a simple reinforcement as a psychological comfort, and it is not worth spending too much effort to strengthen it like a fortress before it is all dug up to make sure it can be used.

So after simply reinforcing the cave day by day, I continued to excavate until I increased the distance between the cave and the entrance to more than three meters.

There was no need to dig any further, the distance of the cave was basically enough, and the next step was to start digging down on the ground on the innermost side of the cave.

The excavation process is not directly downward, but to dig a staircase that is four or five meters long, somewhat similar to a spiral staircase, with a vertical depth of two to three meters.

Then dig a large space about three meters below the current height of the cave, and it will be the cellar space for storing all kinds of things!

The next task is still to dig and haul the soil every day, the content is almost exactly the same, and the process is relatively smooth, even if you occasionally encounter stones, it is within the scope of solving.

It's just that with the further deepening of the project, the geological structure did not cause me much trouble, but the other two major troubles came to the door to seriously affect the efficiency, and if it can be solved, the progress can be at least doubled.

......

One of them is darkness, which naturally does not need to be explained too much, and when digging the cave above, it can barely be illuminated by the light that penetrates through the hole, but when it digs down, it is almost completely in a state of black light, and it will naturally not do things well like a blind man.

Another major problem is that the excavated soil is becoming more and more difficult to transport, but fortunately, the soil can be dumped directly from the hole into the open space behind the houses below, which can be even more troublesome if it is transported far away.

It's a little easier to solve without light, but the first thing that comes to mind is Kiriko under the premise that you can't light the fire, and when will it not work at this time!

Lighting one paulownia will illuminate it for about 20 minutes, and if you light two at once, it will not consume too much air, nor will it produce a lot of smoke and cause poisoning.

But it is used for a day and people begin to dislike, the burning of unstable paulownia simple lighting problems are not big, can be used for construction lighting is not enough,

It's not much better than a black light.

I was worried about safety, but I ended up lighting a fire, even though I knew it was a very risky act!

There is not enough oxygen at the bottom of the cave, and the fire is likely to deplete the oxygen in it and cause itself to die of lack of oxygen......

I have to say that the fear of death put me in a dilemma, and I racked my brains for this, and finally decided to light a small fire, as long as the speed of consumption is not as fast as the speed of replenishment, then it is not a big problem.

The fire is only the size of a palm, and the material is all dry wood blocks with no other debris, and it produces very little smoke, which is slightly larger than the smoke of mosquito coils, so it should be safe.

After an hour or two, nothing else happened, but the problem was really solved, and the brightness inside was much stronger than that of Kiriko.

As for the transportation of soil, it can really only be tossed slowly by perseverance, which is an unsolvable problem at present.

......

However, the speed is not bad, and at the end of the day, it can almost expand the volume of two or three cubic meters with digging and transporting mud, and if it goes well, the staircase part of the large space below will be over after more than a week.

At that time, only the final cellar body was left unexcavated, and it was also the most difficult part of the whole project.

In my heart, I really wanted to finish the cellar all at once, but unfortunately my body and mind did not allow it, and I was already exhausted from digging the hole for ten days in a row.

I'm going to pause for two days, and if I go on like this, I'm going to go crazy, especially in a claustrophobic space!

These two days, of course, are completely self-free, and the only result is that it took half a day to find a clay pot of mushrooms, and the condition is quite ordinary.

The mushrooms are getting later and fewer, and it is estimated that they will disappear completely by next month, and they will not be eaten again until next spring.

Seasonal ingredients are always very delicious, but they are also short-lived, which reminds me of a truth, good things are always short-lived!

In fact, people's lives are also very short, and this period is still full of all kinds of pain and ups and downs, and there are very few times that can be regarded as good.

Two days later, the excavation of the cellar continued, but it was annoying that the progress of the work became slower and slower in the later stages, and there was no urgency for it to be put into use soon, but began to slacken.

This style is quite in line with the human style, at the beginning of the vigorous and vigorous, the more you go to the back, the more the chain falls, and the workload falls down like enthusiasm!

However, there are practical reasons, compared to the beginning, it is much longer to transport the earth from the stairs to the cave three or four meters above the stairs, and then walk three or four meters before pouring out.

For various reasons, the area can only be expanded by two cubic meters a day, which is quite a good result!

......

In this way, the process of digging the cellar every day was painful and boring, but fortunately, the progress was quite gratifying.

The changes in the interior space can be felt visibly with the naked eye, getting bigger and bigger, until now it is almost the size of a house.

Practical and inwardly I do not want to enlarge any more, and do not dare to enlarge it any longer, for the volume of a house is more than enough for me now, and I am afraid that it will be indescribably miserable to turn the cellar into my own grave if I do not do well!

Of course, this problem is not unconsidered, and it has been considered that the huge cavity will make the probability of collapse infinitely larger, so the shape dug out of it is not a regular quadrilateral, or circular.

Rather, it resembles a "convex" character, with three sides of nearly equal length and size, like a small room with three partitions.

The area of each small room is about five square meters, about two meters wide, about two meters long, and nearly two meters high.

The extent to which it has been done now is almost to my limit, the space can basically meet my requirements, and the safety of the structure is not bad, but I don't know if I blindly expand it.

Anyway, I'm not going to expand it anymore in terms of area, for safety reasons, and for the sake of being able to end this project temporarily!

I probably won't be digging for a long time, and now I am disgusted by tools like hoes and shovels, and I don't even want to hoe the crops.

After the preliminary work in the cellar, the time is already at the end of April, and the sweet potatoes can be transplanted.

As for the cellar, the problem is not over, but its work will be put to an end for the time being, and although I would love to finish it and put it into use all at once, the reality is that it will be postponed for a while.

The purpose is mainly to vacant for a period of time to observe whether there will be unexpected situations inside, such as landslides and flooding, dampness, etc., even if you are extremely confident in the strength of the structure, it is useless, facts can speak louder than words!
