Volume 1 Chapter 21 Exploring the Island
The rain never stopped, and I made two pairs of shoes throughout the day, which improved my efficiency a lot compared to the first time.
What's more, not only is it more durable than before, but the comfort has also been improved!
......
After a night of rain, I thought I would have to nest in a cave and weave straw sandals the next day, only to find that the sun had risen high and said "good morning" to me.
That's what I'd like to see, because I've been delayed for nearly a week to do something else, and I've been running out of food.
If you don't stop the rain, you'll have to go out and look for food even if it's raining!
In the next two days, fishing began again, and the situation on the whole island was basically understood, and the only way to obtain the fastest and largest amount of food was to fish, except for taro.
At least until the sweet potatoes and corn are not on scale, they may face this situation, but after they survive, they can "see the sun".
In fact, it only takes about an hour or two to catch a fish, but it takes nearly half a day to rest and process the fish after landing.
In the two days of going to sea, I almost got more than 30 catties of various types of marine fish, as well as a small number of sea cucumbers and other seafood, and a few of them were inedible.
I have to say that one of the groupers has the best meat quality among the many types of fish, and it tastes good even when eaten without seasoning!
This time, after cutting all the fish into meat and drying it, I obviously hated this way of preserving.
Dried fish is not delicious, especially when there is no oil, not only has a strange smell, but also does not fight hunger.
The harvested ten catties of live fish can only be made into two or three catties of dried fish, and the humid environment is easy to mold, and several pieces of dried fish have been lost, and the idea of seeking change is even more serious.
After thinking differently, I decided to dig a small fish pond with a volume of about one cubic meter next to the vegetable patch to raise the marine fish and seafood that I usually catch.
In this way, you don't have to be busy processing the fish to make dried fish every time you come back from fishing, and more importantly, you don't have to eat dried fish, and you don't have to lose that part of the dried fish.
......
The trouble is that it is a little troublesome, and because it is a marine fish, it is necessary to go to the sea from time to time to fetch seawater to come back to replenish the amount of water evaporated in the fish pond.
But thinking that in the past, I had to move the dried fish to the sun every day, and I had to take it back before dark, and it was hard to eat after working hard for a long time, so it was nothing!
Compared with the two, this method is undoubtedly more appropriate, or even incomparable.
I think it is more appropriate to call it a "wooden shovel", because its incompetence makes the progress of the project very slow.
Not to mention, it took two full days to dig the pit, which is still the result of relatively soft soil after the rain!
If there is a hoe, such a project can be completed in half a day.
In order to prevent the fish from tumbling up and down in it, causing the small amount of sea water mixed with the sediment and becoming too turbid, the bottom and surrounding of the fish pond were covered with two layers of large leaves and fixed with a few stones to prevent the fish from turning up the sediment.
If the whole pond turns into muddy water, I believe that in less than two days, I will have to fish them out of it and dry them again!
Next comes the most tiring job--- fetching water from the sea.
Looking at the small puddle is quite a lot, the bucket and the large plastic bottle can be used together to hold nearly 40 catties of seawater at a time, and it took twenty or thirty times to run back and forth to fill the puddle almost, and there is still a distance from the fullness.
It's almost another day, but although the first time is more laborious, the daily maintenance becomes much easier later, except for the occasional rain to replenish, it may only take a day or two to replenish two barrels of seawater, but it is all worth it.
Since all of them are marine fish, there is no way to feed them in fresh water, which adds a lot of workload, and if it is a freshwater fish, it can be fetched directly from the well.
In the future, I will add a --- to my daily routine, feeding the fish, which can be carried out as a recreational activity.
It's just that the food of the fish will be more perfunctory and deceitful, and even fish meat will be used to feed the fish as a last resort, because a large part of the marine fish are carnivorous fish!
......
In the future, my living standards may not improve greatly, and I can only do my best to raise, and there is no way to eliminate the fish with weak vitality, after all, it is its greatest misfortune to hit my hands, and how to die cannot be decided by it!
The day after the fish pond was filled with water, I started thinking about continuing to go to the sea to fish.
However, when I went to the beach with my things, I found that the wind and waves were much stronger than usual today, which was not suitable for going to the sea, so I had to return with my things and set off to patrol the island.
Soon after departure, I found the first important item, a fishing net on the side of the beach reef, which was much better than the last net I picked up, that is, the net used for fishing now, and because the net was small, it was estimated that it would be difficult for fish more than half a pound to swim through.
A pair of fishing nets with better color can be said to be the ones who eat, and the main food now is to live on a fishing net, and I don't dislike this important tool no matter how much it is......
Without the replenishment of fish, it is difficult for me to stick with the limited ingredients provided by the island, and I have to thank the sea for its generosity!
I was very happy to get the new nets, but the wet nets were not lightweight, and I had to be dragged to the shore until they were dry before taking them home to be inspected and repaired.
In addition to the fishing nets, I also picked up a three-pound plastic bottle and a little iron tool that was pried off today, but it was useless for the time being.
A good news is that now in addition to the bucket, there are already all kinds of plastic bottles that can hold more than 30 catties of water, although it seems more complicated, but I am not too much, on the contrary, I am afraid that too little is not enough!
When I saw the island two kilometers away, I had a trace of evil thoughts about it in my heart, and the recent lack of supplies and curiosity made me have the idea of going up and finding out!
......
The thought of going to the island lingered in my mind as soon as it came to me, and it became stronger and stronger until it took over the whole mind.
Of course, this is also related to the current scarcity of supplies, trying to find a way to get as many supplies as possible, at least before I have been there, it also gives me a hope!
Although the one or two kilometers above the sea are indeed very close to the naked eye, it is definitely not within my consideration to swim in the past, not only because I can't support it physically, but I also don't worry about sharks and other fierce fish.
So making a raft before crossing the sea is a necessary job, but the thought of making a raft worries me again.
Because the current state is difficult at the beginning of everything, you need to make tools before doing anything!
The material of the raft was a dry trunk with a length of about three meters and a diameter of 10 to 15 centimeters, because there are many trees of this size in the woods due to the impact of typhoons, and only a simple trimming with a stone axe can meet the requirements.
However, after finding the eight, the search had to be stopped because of the damage of the stone axe, of course, although the number of eight was still lacking in width, it was also acceptable, and it was possible to sit or lie down and paddle.
Its purpose is mainly to provide some buoyancy, after all, the two-kilometer journey does not take too long!
Eight trunks were carried to the beach in turn and tied together with ropes, and the making of a small raft took nearly a day, and by this time it was already five or six o'clock in the afternoon, and the sea could only be carried out tomorrow.
Before dark, I began to prepare all kinds of equipment that I would need to bring with me for tomorrow's departure, including: two bottles of fresh water, a rope, a backpack, a fire fold, a long wooden stick for self-defense, etc., and the oars were made of a rope tied to a piece of the rotten door of the last knife dismantling, which can only be said to be barely usable!
If you don't sleep well at night, you may be thinking too much!!
I set off early in the morning after breakfast was ready, the process of crossing the sea was not very smooth, paddling by the oars in the waves was more difficult than expected, and I was soaked for two kilometers not far away, but it was not the seawater, but the sweat on my body.
......
It may take many paddling times to build up enough momentum to move forward, but a small wave can directly cancel you out and change your direction, which is the main reason for the effort.
By the time I finally put my foot on the island's ground, it was already an hour and a half later!
It turned out that I thought it would only take 20 minutes to get there, which was very frustrating.
The first thing I did after going down to the beach was to fix the raft first, after all, I still need to rely on it to carry it back, and the second thing was to rest, this trip really tired me enough, and there were several times when I almost fell into the sea, and the sufficient physical strength before departure was consumed in the sea!
I almost couldn't get up after sitting down, and it took 20 minutes to let myself be in a better state and officially go to the island to search.
The first impression of the island is the singing of birds and flowers, full of warmth and tranquility, and it is very comfortable to come here for leisure if you are not looking for the purpose of exploration, but of course you should be wary of not being fooled by its surface.
The woods on the small island are denser than on the big island, and although the area is not large, it gives people a more eerie feeling when they come in.
I think I might have been a little scared if I had set foot on this island after a cruise shipwreck, but after living on the big island for so long, this gloom didn't have much impact on my mentality!
So I almost strode into the forest, and the first thing I found in the process of exploring was a mango tree, but unfortunately the ripening time had passed.
Only two ripe and fallen fruits on the ground were intact, which allowed me to feast on my mouth again and gave me some psychological comfort in the arduous process just now.
I like to eat mangoes very much, and last time I was very disappointed because I ate all the mangoes, and I still felt a little unfinished eating two mangoes in one go.
Due to the high temperature and impermeability in the woods, it was very hot inside, like buns in a steamer, and the process was indescribable.
From time to time, you need to open up a road to walk, and the process is very hard, but fortunately there is no danger!
