Chapter 658: Headless Statue
Under the great shadow of the city walls, two figures shrouded in burqas slowly walked towards the old part of the city.
The night guard stationed near the city gate stepped forward to intercept him, but the figure pulled out a family crest with an abstract spider engraved on it from its black robes, and the guard immediately retreated to his post, all without saying a word.
These two people are naturally Elise and Jeno, and Elise asks Jano to follow her back to the Kithera family mansion first, which is her maiden home. But after hundreds of years of her business, the Khithera and Zaafan families are no longer separated, and her cobwebs are all over the Immortal Fortress.
A full moon is reflected on the irregular cobblestone road, like a group of silent watching eyes, and the houses on both sides of the street are made of stone, and the exquisite craftsmanship may have been the work of some war stonemason.
As his footsteps deepened, Jeno could feel that the walls on both sides were taller and more oppressive, as if they were falling with every step, as if they were about to enter the ground of the immortal fortress like this.
There was a chilling silence in the streets, no hawkers, no crows, no drunkards, and the noisy streets outside the walls as if they were two worlds.
And there is very little light here, there are no lanterns to mark the borders, or candles in the upper windows, although the candlelight is meant to guide suitors who come to show favor at night. Only the cold moonlight shone on them, but now this only light was going to leave them.
"How long are we going to go?" Jeno broke the silence with his mouth.
"It's going to take half an hour to walk." Elise estimated the total number of bends and turns to arrive at this result.
The roads of the Immortal Fortress are poorly planned, unlike the straight and open roads that lead to Rome like the Leather City. It consists of many winding alleys and bridges that are not on the same level, which is even more complicated when you include the network of roads below ground level.
Today's immortal fortress was slowly expanded from a fallen ancient city, and over the centuries new bricks and tiles have been piled up, so that the road here is three-dimensional and winding, like a 3D labyrinth.
"Then why did you come so quickly?" Jeno asked rhetorically.
He remembered that he had slept for less than an hour, and Elise was sitting in his room, and if he had been on the road for more than half an hour, it would have been impossible for the other party to come so quickly, because he had seen Elise put on makeup.
"Have you forgotten that I am a spider? I climbed from the roof of the house, and I could have avoided a lot of detours. Elise looked back at Jano with interest.
Normal people can't let go of her spider legs after looking at them, but Jeno doesn't care, and doesn't mind the four horrible things behind her at all.
"No wonder...... Straight-line distance and actual distance are two different concepts. Elise's words reminded Jeno of the fear of being dominated by mobile navigation, and it took an hour to complete the ten-minute walk.
In a corner around the corner, Jeno saw an armored statue, more than two meters high, full of majestic and terrifying oppression, but it was smashed in the head. It is made of a cast iron hammer and has the appearance of a headless warrior, wearing plate armor and holding a mace.
Jeno felt an inexplicable sound coming from the cavity of the statue tempting him, as if he could gain power instantly when he touched the statue. It seemed to be a kind of spiritual magic, and if it weren't for his super self-control that defied all control, I am afraid that in the blink of an eye, his hand would have reached out to him.
"Elise, do you feel the inexplicable power on this statue?"
"I didn't notice anything, is there anything strange about this statue? There are thousands of identical statues in the Old Town, all of which have their faces smashed. To the inhabitants of the Immortal Fortress, it was as sparse and mundane as a road sign. ”
Jeno's question baffled Elise, who didn't feel anything unusual from the statue's body.
In fact, newcomers to the Immortal Fortress will feel that the Noxians who live here are too nervous about certain strange phenomena.
For example, everyone was oblivious to the dark magic that shone on the three huge monoliths in the center of the Immortal Fortress, and they were indifferent to the strange headless statues scattered throughout the city.
"If this statue is intact, it is engraved with the original founder of the Immortal Fortress, right?" Jeno said.
"Yes, it is impossible for every Noxianan to be mistaken, for it is bound to be mentioned in every history book that the empire was built on the demise of this warlord."
"Why did you smash the statue's head? Whose interests are at stake? Jeno knew who the armor represented, but he couldn't name it.
That name can only be pronounced in Ou Chen, and Ou Chen has an inexplicable power, similar to the spirit of words, once it is spoken, it will inevitably trigger something to happen, either in this world or in another world.
"I don't know, I just know that it was made by the people of Black Rose, long before I joined Black Rose." Elise shook her head, her gaze not lingering too much on the statue.
These statues have existed much older than the time when Elise was born, and like the legend of the Black Rose, which has long been passed down in the Immortal Fortress.
"Okay." Jano nodded, and continued to follow Elise.
After walking for about half an hour, Jeno saw that the frequency of spiders in the dark corners was more visible to the naked eye, indicating that Elise's lair was getting closer and closer to him.
"Are you going to take me into the earth of the Immortal Fortress? I heard that you have built a palace of your own in the ground? ”
"The so-called palace is just a place for brainwashing, where I have placed the followers of the spider god, but it is empty now. We arrived, and this was a mansion in the name of the Zaafan family, but there was no need to divide it so clearly, it was all mine anyway. ”
Elise led Jeno through a dilapidated gate made of silverbark tree trunked wood and into an old mansion.
The mansion within the high walls was made of a pale stone he had never seen before—majestic but not a single stone—as was the case with many of the great Noxian buildings.
The architectural style of the house is relatively old, at least hundreds of years old, and many places are covered with dust.
They walked through the withered garden, whose fountain had dried up for hundreds of years, and had long since been covered with layers of battered cotton wool webs, among which the black dots like cottonseeds were actually dormant spiders.
"Wait! You're going to arrange for me to live in this dilapidated mansion full of spiders? ”
