Volume 2 Chapter 134 Daily Life (3)
Fortunately, there are fewer crops in the field, and the corn has already been harvested, otherwise it may not be enough to prepare a little!
Chickens and sheep don't have to worry much, the chicken coop and the tile shed in the sheepfold have been put into use, and they have been fed food for two or three days, and the newly built house has experienced a typhoon without any mistakes, so it should not be a big problem.
Unlike the previous typhoons and even the previous ones, this time it is somewhat similar to the one that destroyed the wooden houses back then, and it is not a little stronger than ordinary typhoons!
Even though the newly built house itself was on the leeward side after moving to the island, the height was lowered by 100 meters, and the roof tiles were structurally strengthened, but as the wind became stronger, my heart was still uncertain.
I didn't sleep much at night, but luckily the wind wasn't strong enough to hear a collapse outside.
The next night was when the wind was at its strongest, and there was only the sound of the wind blowing in both ears, as if the whole world was the only one who existed, a scene of the end of the world, and I was going to be finished......
At this moment, a loud "click" sound came into my ears, pulling me back from the panic to reality, followed by a "bang" and then came in, although the sound was not as violent as the wind, but the crisp sound was so outstanding.
If my guess is correct, it must be that one of the four or five trees left in the open space in front of the house has been scraped off, and I can only hope that the big trees do not hit the chicken and sheep pens, otherwise!!
I am very glad that the roof was pasted with mud when building the house, and the tiles are very firm after drying, and if there is no such step, the roof is estimated to be like when there was a strong typhoon before, and the tiles will continue to fall, or even blow the roof directly.
Now there are already signs that some of the roof tiles have been blown open, especially at the edge of the roof, and the eaves have almost fallen!
......
It seems that even if there is no loss, repairing the roof after the typhoon is inevitable, but it is much easier than before, and it is a good thing that there is not much rain leakage in the room.
After less than two hours, a very obvious "click" sound came in again, this sound was more obvious than the first one, and the whole person's heart was already in a feeling of seven up and eight down.
I already felt that most of the chickens or sheep had suffered, because the two big trees were not small, and the branches were like small hills, and now it became a luxury to even glance at the window.
For the time being, we can only make sure that the house has not been hit by the big tree, otherwise most of the roofs will be directly smashed through......
The current scene reminds me of the experience of climbing into the well to escape a few years ago, except that the house did not fall and I did not flee for my life, the two winds are so similar, they are so fierce, and the thought of it makes me palpitate for a while!
The delay in the fall of the third tree made me know that the maximum wind should have passed, and I barely slept for the first two nights, and the rest of the time was very suitable for catching up on sleep.
The time to go out was postponed until noon on the fourth day, and I was eager to know if the tree had hit the chickens and sheep, which were the two animals that I had the confidence to survive!
The moment the door was opened, the scene outside was not much different from before, it was a mess, the sheepfold dozens of meters away was still intact, but the chicken pen was affected by some branches of the fallen tree.
At first glance, my heart skipped a beat, but after I saw the specific extent of the damage, I could only congratulate that I was lucky!
The chickens are still there, because the chicken pen is only a fifth of the area, the fishing nets are still pressed to the ground without gaps, not to mention the timid pheasants don't dare to go out at all......
I didn't worry about any gaps, and began to look around, two of the five big trees in the clearing were blown off, and one was uprooted, but I didn't hear a sound.
......
The results were not bad for me, it saved me a day to cut them down, and the other woods lost more, more than a tenth of the trees were destroyed!
Because of the addition of a layer of thin mud to the roof, only more than 100 roof tiles were blown off, and less than one-fifth of the greens were lost, which is generally within an acceptable range.
If I still live on the top of the mountain, it will be at least half as serious as it is now, and the roof tiles are even more ......, well, I suddenly remembered that leaving two rooms on the top of the mountain just in case it doesn't seem to be very useful.
As soon as the typhoon came, it is estimated that the roof will be renovated again, and there are not a few tiles that have fallen, so it is still too naïve to think about it!
In fact, there was not much follow-up work for the typhoon, and it only took an hour to rearrange the roof tiles, but the three big trees that fell to the ground were very troublesome, and the amount of work was not small.
Even if they didn't cause me a big loss, they still took up a large area when they fell to the ground, and it became less convenient to move around them.
I didn't want to bear it, but the view of the three trees was so beautiful that only the last two trees were left in the clearing.
If there were no other things to do, I guess I would have cut down these two trees as well, and the whole clearing would have felt very refreshing!
It took more than three days to clear all the big trees, I had to repair my boat, and after the typhoon I went to see how it was doing, but I was kept delayed by a few big trees.
Although the ship did not run, the damage was not small, the pillar with a sail thicker than a leg was directly blown down and smashed the guardrail on one side, if the sail was not put away every time the ship stopped, it is estimated that the ship would have escaped!
The current situation is acceptable, as long as the two-story raft is not damaged, and the superstructure is relatively easy to solve.
......
The repair of the ship took more than a day, and I don't think it's too safe after this typhoon, especially with the strong winds.
I plan to moor the boat in the small triangular bay in the middle of the island, even if it is far from my residence, but the advantage is that the wind and waves are usually calm, and even if the typhoon passes by, it will be weakened by nearly half by the high mountains on both sides, which is an excellent anchoring position.
It was only during the restoration of the sails that caused me to worry about the condition of the sails, which had been covered with large and small holes after years of use.
Even if the largest hole is only the size of a finger, if there are more holes, it will only be like a sieve and will not work, and it seems that the life span will not be too long......
If you can't find a replacement, going to the sea will be much more troublesome than it is now, especially if you are physically tormented!
Being able to get everything back to normal in a few days is something I find very rewarding, because it proves that my work is done well, at least much better than before!
The first thing I wanted to do after a typhoon was to kill sheep, and even when the typhoon came, they were miserable, and as a victim like me, I shouldn't have to suffer the anger caused by the typhoon.
But I think the reason for killing sheep is not a typhoon at all, but that the recent food is in a vacuum, the vegetables have not yet grown, and eleven sheep are a weight that I can't bear, which is already an old issue every year, and there is nothing new!
The two are ewes, and now there are a bit more lambs giving birth each year, and I'm going to get rid of the crocodiles on the island after the next year, and there will be a lot of fresh meat coming in.
The rhythm of adding three lambs a year seems to be the most reasonable at the moment, and it is no problem to keep the size of about ten sheep for a long time after the crocodiles on the island are cleared, because if you let go of eating, you may consume four or five sheep a year.
......
The sweet potatoes are ripe, and this year's sweet potatoes are actually about the same as in previous years, but the number is far behind, a full fifth less than in previous years.
There are many reasons that affect the yield, mainly because the stump is too dense and the loose soil is not enough, especially the depth is not enough, and secondly, there is only one kind of plant ash on the fertilizer.
The sweet potato harvest means that this year's grain is all harvested, and all that is left in the field is greens, spinach, potatoes and carrots harvested next spring.
This year's harvest is all in the warehouse, which is considered to be the end of my heart, and there are not many things left, especially the more urgent things.
What made me think was that the bark soaked in paper for a long time could be solved first, and the other thing was to go back to the island to make some pottery.
At first, I thought that I would wait until next year to return, but now the temperature is low and it is not very pleasant to cross the sea, but there are still a lot of things after the year, so I will not delay it anymore!
Making pottery was a headache for me some time ago, because it would be a hassle no matter how it was done, and there was no clay on Crocodile Island.
There are reasons why I am too busy to look for it, and there are reasons why I feel that it is too troublesome, and I have been in too much trouble, so much that I don't want to find new troubles for myself!
So I don't plan to change the source of the clay, but I'm going to dig it up on the island, unless I have to find it again.
At first, I still thought about making it on the island, then storing it in my room, and waiting for ten days and half a month before coming by boat to burn it, but unfortunately this typhoon did not give me my wish.
Hundreds of tiles on the roof have fallen off, and the roof of the kitchen has been completely overturned like never before, so it has become impossible to rest in the room or store pottery!
Unless I take the time to renovate the roof of the first room, I don't have the heart to do so, and the only way to do it now seems to be to bring the clay back and dig a kiln in Crocodile Island to burn it.
From the bottom of my heart I was reluctant because it added another job to me, but unfortunately I really had no reason to refuse unless I didn't use pottery!
The transportation of soil is a very technical task, and if you dig up the mud and throw it on the ship, it is estimated that only half of it will be left when it reaches the shore.
Half of them must have been hooked up by the sea, and one wave can wash some of the loose mud on the boat into the sea, let alone ten waves, a hundred waves.
So while digging the mud, I also added some water to make a mud blank, and finally shaped the clay blocks of 30 centimeters long and wide, so that there was no problem in placing them on the boat, but the process was much more troublesome!
