Volume 2 Chapter 132 (1)
The location of the pepper is not bad, not only is it sunny nearby, but there are no weeds to cover it, it is no wonder that it can survive, if it is estimated that it will be difficult to produce peppers in a different environment!
The two peppers are in the flowering and fruiting stage, and the possibility of successful transplanting is very low.
When I got home, I couldn't wait to fry the chili pepper and mutton on a plate of spicy dishes that I had been looking forward to, and the spicy feeling burst out in my mouth again, and there was only one word: "cool"!
The spicinessness is enough, and it is not a star and a half stronger than the green peppers used in the general stir-fry, and it can be eaten and sweated after a meal, and it can also be remembered for a long time.
But the number of just over a dozen chili peppers is still too small, and it is always a pity that I can't make chili sauce, and it's not enjoyable at all!
I didn't have much to gain other than chili peppers, only some Chinese herbs and wild vegetables, but I was very satisfied with the results!
......
The temperature in July is becoming more and more unpredictable, and so far there has not been a typhoon this year, which shows that I am lucky, but I still want to deal with some potential threats in advance.
For the time being, I think that in addition to the forests on the vacant land where the house is built, there are more than one acre of various trees that can easily be broken or blown down in the event of a typhoon.
It's just that there is no problem with falling, but I am afraid that the fallen trees will hit the house or the chicken and sheep pen, and the loss will be immeasurable, so I have to give priority to them!
Thanks to the fact that we can now concentrate on more than 10 hours a day and clear at a rate that is the same every day, it is almost twice as efficient as when we first started logging and have to travel between the two islands more than five or six hours a day.
So it only took two weeks, and all the remaining acres of trees in the vacant land were put down and piled up, except for four or five large trees with a diameter of 30 centimeters for summer cooling.
It is a matter of concern to clear all this vacant land, and it will be more reassuring to be active on this land in the future!
The relatively flat open space with a total area of nearly four acres is now a sense of openness compared to the lush greenery of the first time I arrived.
The only thing missing is that I can't see the sea, and I can only see part of it in the crevices of the forest and in special locations, because I don't plan to cut down the trees on the hillside around the open space in order to prevent typhoons.
The upper part of these trees is three to five meters above the open space, and it can play a certain role in blocking typhoons, even if it absorbs some energy, so if you want to drink a drink and watch the sea view directly here, you can only appear in a dream.
At least for a short time I'm not going to be a lumberjack anymore, and now seeing an axe affects my mood, and it's getting hotter!
......
The first typhoon came, and it was the first typhoon to experience when moving to Crocodile Island, and although the preparations were similar, I was inevitably apprehensive.
After all, all kinds of safety of new houses built in new terrain have not been fully tested, and when a typhoon comes, you can't even run away!
Fortunately, the decision to speed up the relocation was made very correctly, and the previous door panels were also carried over, so there was no strong wind blowing outside and strong wind blowing inside the house.
It's just the chickens and sheep that are miserable, and so far there is no shelter from the wind and rain, all I can do is give them a little more food.
I am lucky, this typhoon level is not high, the maximum wind force reaches about 10 and then does not rise, the damage caused is very limited!
Only dozens of corn plants in the field have been blown down, a number that does not matter to me!
This typhoon made me realize that it is inconvenient to check the crops on the island, and even to count the damage, I have to travel far across the ocean, so I plan to expand the area of the crops even if the weather is hot.
Because next month, after the greens and spinach wilt, they will have to be planted on Crocodile Island, and at least one and a half acres of land will need to be used here, not to mention potatoes!
It was only at the end of July that enough land was cleared for three acres, and the area that could be planted was about two acres, but for the time being, I had to do that because I didn't want to cut down any more trees.
......
The temperature is getting higher and higher, and some open-air work is not suitable for doing it, and it is a torture to be idle without electric fans and air conditioning, let alone work in the open air.
But unlike in previous years, I still have a lot of things to do, and it's okay to choose some work that is not in the open air, including making bricks and tiles.
There are still several large trees in the open space that have not been cut down, which allows me to work in the shadow of the trees, and the brick-making workbench is not exposed to the sun more than half of the day.
While working at a low speed, returning to the island is also mixed with other tasks, such as transporting vegetables, harvesting potatoes, grinding cornmeal, and extracting oil, etc., which can only be done with some time, and does not make too many at a time.
Before these facilities on Crocodile Island are made, they can only work on the existing facilities on the island for a while, after all, one production can last for a while.
As the days passed, a kiln of bricks was finally driven out before the corn harvest, and their function was mainly to pave a drying field, and it was impossible to transport the newly harvested corn back to the island to dry!
Even though the sun was fierce and I only spent seven or eight hours a day working in the morning and evening, I was glad to be able to lay a drying field with an area of nearly 30 square meters before the corn harvest.
This year, because the fertility of the newly cultivated land is not bad, and the spacing between the individual plants is large enough, although only some grass ash is sprinkled, the growth of the individual plants is almost the same as in previous years.
However, the corn around the clearing will be more damaged, and a large part of the sunlight will be blocked by the surrounding large trees, resulting in fruits that are only half the size of normal, and a few even only a few dozen corn kernels.
directly lowered the total output a lot, and in the end, it was estimated that all the harvest was only about 500 catties!
The peanuts planted on the island have been very stable, with a harvest of more than 200 catties.
There are still a lot of peanuts left that were not squeezed for the Chinese New Year last year, plus more than 200 catties this season, it is estimated that there can be six or seven hundred catties, which is far more than the level I can consume in a year, so I am thinking about interrupting peanuts for a year next year!
The drying of corn and peanuts was tragic, with three or four thunderstorms delaying the final drying time by nearly a week.
......
There are dozens of dried peppers, not to mention the seeds, which can be grown for tens of square meters in a simple way.
Carrots have also been harvested one after another, a total of twenty or thirty square meters of carrots have more than 100 catties, delicious carrots let me have it almost every meal in the next half a month, whether it is fried or stewed to eat, there is a freshness in it than other dishes.
It's just that this opportunity doesn't last long, and the high temperature in summer makes carrots very difficult to preserve, and it's thankful that they can be put for half a month without spoiling.
In view of this, I turned a fifth of it into long strips and dried radish, and I was inspired to dry a lot of dried vegetables, which were greatly improved during the two months of winter when there was a shortage of vegetables.
This is something to celebrate, in the past, only greens were often the only vegetables in winter, and after eating them for a long time, people had no desire for food at all.
The growth cycle of carrots is similar to that of potatoes, and it usually takes less than five months to mature a season, so while breeding greens and spinach, the new season of carrots and potatoes are also planted.
The area is not much, potatoes and carrots are only about 50 square meters, I think this amount is enough, planting more than 100 square meters to harvest a few hundred catties, it is very likely to be digested and put into decay and deterioration, the gain outweighs the loss!
In addition, the small thistle is also ripe, except for a few used to harvest seeds, the other fifty or sixty trees have all been dug up and dried by me, and the professional trauma medicine in the future is guaranteed.
......
In addition to the various harvests, I believe that the problem of typhoons must be taken seriously, and the safety of livestock must be considered first, and it is difficult to imagine the consequences of chickens and sheep resisting typhoons in the open air, and the last typhoon can only be said to be lucky.
First of all, I am going to solve the problem of chickens first, the number of six chickens is very unsafe from the heart, and if a bad accident occurs, there may be a risk of total annihilation!
There are four hens among the six chickens, and they have been working diligently, guaranteeing one or two eggs a day, and I think I would go crazy if I suddenly lost them all.
In order to prevent it from happening, I think it is better to renovate the chicken pen as soon as possible to make people feel more at ease!
This time, I plan to abandon the brick construction method, which I have learned from previous experience that although it is very strong and fast to build, it is not very friendly.
The strong sealing between the bricks makes the inside airtight, and the chicken manure inside is difficult to clean, so the smelly environment will increase the risk of pheasants getting sick inside.
Of course, the most annoying thing is me, it is dark inside, I often have to grope for a long time when picking up eggs, and often when I pick up eggs, I also have chicken feces on my hands, which simply affects the mood when eating eggs, because there are shadows in the psychology......
At first, I thought of using bamboo to make a chicken coop because it was faster and more labor-saving, but I finally gave up thinking about its lifespan, and I had to make it again after a year or two.
It can be used for five or even eight years if it is made of wood with better materials, and the heavier weight is also good for typhoon resistance, so it is better to honestly use arm-thick wood to make it!
The size of the wood is also larger than that of the brick structure, the length is close to one and a half meters, and the width is also sixty or seventy centimeters, and the total net area inside should be about one square meter.
The top is still tiled, and the windward side is brick to block the wind, I think the strength should be similar to that of a chicken coop.
According to my estimate, it is not a problem to accommodate more than a dozen chickens in it, which is also a preparation for hatching chicks, and the number of chickens is still too small now!
I don't know how long it has been since I last ate chicken, but I can't remember it anyway......
