Volume II, Chapter 123 Standing Forward
In fact, there is another reason why this place is very suitable, this is the back side of the most common direction of typhoons, and the mountains behind are more than 100 meters high, which can unload some of the typhoon's energy, and the wind is at least one-fifth lower than the peak of the main island!
Except for the distance from the abundant water source, which is inconvenient for more than 500 meters, it is quite good in other aspects.
It's just that the trees are so dense that it's a headache, and compared to the bare terrain at the top of the mountain, it's much more difficult here!
But I don't have to be trembling when I first arrived on the island, and I didn't find that there was an obvious threat to me, so I could have a big fight!
I believe that with my current experience and hands-on ability, as well as various effective tools, the final relocation should be completed in a shorter time than expected.
After arriving at the location, I didn't rush to start work directly, but first went to the water source to check, if there is a more suitable vacant land nearby to build a house, it will be more convenient to use water in the future.
Unfortunately, after looking around, it was not surprising that there was no suitable open space near the water source, and there were slopes and cliffs of different angles all around, so it was not difficult to choose, so I decided to build the house in the location selected in advance!
The only inconvenience is that it is too far away from the water source, and it may take a lot of time to fetch water later.
Then we have to face a very annoying problem--- open up the wasteland!
This vacant land covers an area of three or four acres, and it is estimated that all of it will become vacant land in the later stage, even if only a small temporary living area is opened up in the past two months, at least three or five hundred square meters of woods must be cleared to spread out my large pile of stalls.
When I saw this large forest, there were several trees with a diameter of more than 30 centimeters that I needed to cut down one by one, and my brain hurt!
Logging is an extremely physically demanding task, which involves not only cutting down, but also removing branches, cutting them into lengths, and then carrying them away and piling them up.
The work is a little easier to do in the future, you can wait for the wood to dry out before moving, but the current work is difficult to do because it is full of wet trees, and you have to carry it away to clear the clearing.
It's only been a few trees that have just been cut down and you're sweating, and this is before the weather reaches the hottest time of summer, and construction work may be suspended for a while as the temperature continues to rise to more than 35 degrees.
Therefore, taking into account various conditions, what can be done as soon as possible needs to be accelerated, otherwise it may not be able to move before the year!
......
It is reassuring to know that the trees in the woods are not too dense, far from the dense level of the primeval forest, otherwise the trouble would be even greater.
After three or four hours to clear out thirty or forty square meters of land, the time has come to the afternoon, and there has not been such high-intensity labor for a long time, and the whole person is tired enough.
What's more, I was obviously hungry and I was already a little unable to cut down trees, so I started to pick up some dry firewood to make a fire to cook.
It's been years since I've had a picnic like this, and if it weren't for the exhaustion of cutting down trees, it would be a real thing!
In the afternoon, I didn't continue to cut down trees, so I planned to clear the fallen trees and choose some suitable size wood to build a grass shed.
I don't plan to go back to the island tonight, there are only thirteen or fourteen hours in total during the day, and it takes at least four hours to go back and forth, and at the same time I have to reserve one or two hours on the return trip to prevent it from being in time before dark, and five or six hours are wasted like this, which is too cost-effective!
I have to say that the biggest advantage of cutting down trees is that it solves the problem of wood that I need to build, and on the other hand, it can be regarded as killing two birds with one stone.
When all the wood in this land is cleared, not only will there be wood for building houses in the future, but also the materials for chicken and sheep pens, as well as firewood, will be solved......
Having built so many houses, and several huts, it was a challenge to build one again.
I sharpened the ends of more than a dozen calf-thick tree trunks and inserted them into the deep pit dug with a hoe, then backfilled it with soil and stepped on it, and the height of about two meters was crossed by some arm-thick wood as beams, and finally it was very rough to cover all kinds of fat leaves, and a simple grass shed was completed.
Can't blame me for the rough work, it's just a makeshift shelter for sun protection and occasional sleeping, usually tinkering, and probably after a while it will be abandoned and demolished.
And when the weather changes, I will still return to the island as soon as possible to take shelter, not only because the grass hut is not very useful, but also because I am worried about the typhoon, and the chickens and sheep at home are always a drag.
......
Although it is very simple to say, and it is indeed very rudimentary, it took me most of the day to build the grass shed, and it will soon be dark.
I started collecting more firewood before it got dark and lit the fire again for dinner, which really lit the crops and gave people a sense of security.
However, the news is not so good, the fresh water and food I brought with me are depleted very quickly under the intense physical exertion, and I must return to the island again tomorrow afternoon to replenish it.
I thought I could last at least two and a half days with a backpack full of meat and tortillas, but I ended up removing half of the two meals on the first day.
The next morning I decided to suspend logging, because wood could be cut at any time, but the problem of water needed to be solved first, and I could no longer bring water from the island, so I thought that water should be brought back from this side.
The mountains and rivers here are not only clearer and cleaner, but they also don't need to be used to drink it, and it is very troublesome and unhealthy to filter dirty water on this island.
It is a bit far to open a road from the current location to the water source in the distance, and it would be more appropriate to open a road from here to the water source two hundred meters away, and dig it out to solve my daily drinking problems for the time being.
At night, because I haven't slept in the open air for too long, listening to the chirping of the insects and snakes in the forest, I have never slept well, and I got up to cook at dawn in the morning, which made the morning time very sufficient, with five or six hours to use.
By noon, I had a smooth path to the water source, and the road was one meter wide, and there were no obvious weeds or vines at two meters wide, and I had to keep it as flat as possible without steep mountain paths.
With this route, my personal water consumption should be sufficient in the early stages of the move, and I often stay on the island due to weather and routine returns.
......
After lunch, there were still two or three hours to use, and I think that time was reserved for the expansion of the well, so there was still no logging.
The water source was still completely unexplored, with only a small puddle for two bottles of fresh water, and of course the water in it must have been laughed at by me.
I am very glad that I had the foresight to realize in advance that I might dig a well and bring the chisel over, so the work of expanding the well can be carried out smoothly, otherwise I can only stare dryly!
Expanding the well is a craft, it must be made of stone material on the outside and at the bottom, so as not to leak, so when chiseling, it must be chiseled inward at a height of fifty or sixty centimeters, and then downward when chiseled to the inside, always let the outside have a wall about ten centimeters thick.
This also slowed down the process, taking two or three hours to chisel out a bucket of water or so, but the results were satisfactory, at least for my daily needs.
When I returned to the island in the afternoon, the sheep seemed very happy not to see me for a day or two, but I think they were not thinking of me, but hungry!
This year's lambs were supposed to have five lambs last month, but unfortunately one of them died because the first year's calf was inexperienced.
I know that the little ewe is very sad and can only be fed a little more food to see how sullen it is every day, and there is nothing I can do about it.
What's even more distressing is that the other lamb is almost half a month old and was trampled by the big sheep and did not survive, even if the number of sheep is enough now, but watching the sheep on the ground lose so much in vain is also infuriating!
It could have been possible to expand the sheepfold to the size of thirteen, but now there are only three small lambs, and with the addition of eight large sheep, there are only eleven.
Although eleven is completely enough, people are sometimes greedy and always want more!
......
When I returned to the island again, the feeling of sleeping in a brick house was different, and I cried out as soon as I fell, and it was sad to think of listening to the noise outside in the grass hut last night, and I couldn't sleep after tossing and turning.
Therefore, if you want to live more comfortably, you must move forward with all kinds of work faster, especially to build a house, even if it is a priority.
The next day's plan to go to Crocodile Island was aborted by a rain that lasted from the early hours of the morning to the morning of the third day, which successfully delayed me for two days and made me even more anxious!
However, when I saw the amount of water at home, I found that the rain came in time, and I would have to go to the sea again to fetch water two days later.
In the past few months of this year, the climate has generally been windy and rainy, and there has been no prolonged rainy weather, let alone a drought of more than 10 days and a half.
This climate is quite mild and unsuitable, and if it weren't for the sake of long-term peace and stability in the future, I would not even have plans to relocate!
But that's just a momentary thought, what the climate on the island is like in the past few years, I have learned everything one by one, there is no most desperate, only more desperate, so a few months of mild climate can never change my final thoughts.
Taking advantage of the rain and the rare two-day rest, this year's task is particularly difficult, starting from the loosening of the soil at the end of February, to the later shipbuilding, and then to the later exploration, there is little free time.
Even if it's a sunny day, even if it's raining, I'm doing all kinds of chores most of the time at home, but now that I have decided to move to the island, the burden is even heavier, and all kinds of construction and transportation work are still waiting for me to complete one by one.
Although he was not seriously injured, he was also cut by the weeds and branches in the woods, and some of them have not formed scars until now, which can be said to be very hard!
Being able to steal two days of leisure is something that I have been thinking about every day lately......
