Chapter 305: The Three Sisters of the Ice Descent (Extra)
In a time long forgotten, when the sands had not yet been born and engulfed Shurima, entities of ancient magic roamed the runetera freely. The boundaries between the mortal realms and what is within the borders of the other side are the objects of fierce contention.
In these turbulent times, when everyone was at risk, the three sisters, Lisandro, Serelda and Alvarossa, were born. Each of them longed to harness the power of war, and they all paid a terrible price.
Serelda attempts to take control of the Celestial Realm, but loses her voice to Twilight at the beginning. Avarosa was robbed of her hearing in the twisted darkness beneath the world, and the void that awaited within it longed to devour all creation.
Lisandro, on the other hand, fought against the wild magic of the mortal world itself. To punish her for her contempt, a primordial god cut her eyes with his claws, robbing her of vision.
While each of the three sisters has lost a piece of themselves, what really unites and thrives is the countless battles Lisandro has launched on the ice field.
Together, they are unstoppable, but even if the ties of blood will fade one day.
Without vision, Lisandro chose to walk in a dream. She could see the vision of others intermittently, but she found that only she could see the darkness below and its true face:
That lingering abyss means not only an ending, but also infinity. It is death, and while it is dangerous, it is also full of potential.
Lisandro secretly spoke to the near-divine spirits from the sisters, and made a deal with them in the name of the three sisters—the Overseers would grant them near-immortal powers, and they would need to prepare the Runeterras for the arrival of the Void.
Hence the three sisters and their most powerful followers to the name Iceborn. They have the ability to withstand the coldest frosts, and are therefore the strongest ones to survive to the end.
However, Lisandro's sisters became increasingly dissatisfied. Avarosa insisted that there was only one thing worse than death, and that was enslavement.
Even Serilda was furious, believing that the world they had fought so hard for did not deserve this. Lisandro was caught in the middle, trying to calm the sisters' worries and begging the watchers for more time, but the unknowable nothingness paid no attention to these banal words.
The Void has broken into the mortal world in the far north, and in doing so, Lisandro's secret collusion with the Watchers has become conclusive.
At that moment, she had only two choices, either let the world be swallowed up, or give up what she cherished most—Lisandro had sacrificed her sisters and their assembled allies to bury the watchers under the glacial barrier at the expense of the ice of magic that would never melt.
Lisandro soon discovered that even such a powerful elemental power was not enough. The frozen monsters were just sleeping, and they gradually polluted the ice around them, transforming them into something even darker.
Now they could easily wander into Lisandro's dreams, and she could enter their dreams just as easily, each time she would give them the eternal promise in her dreams, and each time she would wake up in terror.
As the sole survivor of the three sisters, she gathers the remaining followers to pledge allegiance to her and honor the memory of her departed sisters.
If the Ice can only delay the final fate of all things in the world for a while, then they must gather all their forces to search for all the descendants of the Ice Descendants on the ice field and join them in their great cause.
Lisandro and her first Iceguard tribe have rewritten history with all their might, mastering all the records of the truth, but even so, rumors and prophecies still circulate in myths and songs.
Amid the whispers of the people, Avarosa and Serelda will one day return and unite the many incompatible tribes, and in doing so, Lisandro has quietly killed all those who have been worshipped as their reincarnations.
And she herself retreated into the shadows, using the abilities she had been given to rejuvenate herself every once in a while. Just as she couldn't kill the threat beneath the ice sheet, so did Lisandro not be able to fully control her sister's legends.
Whether out of guilt or arrogance, the legacy of her sisters has been reunited into two powerful Ice Descendants—an Idealist and a Conqueror—who now lead many of the tribes of Freljord.
Lisandro watched over the two of them, looking for an opportunity to sow discord between them, while also redoubling her efforts to keep the horrific secrets she buried beneath the main castle.
She had to hurry, because the ice had begun to melt.
Ash hails from Freljord in the north, where tribal raids and clan wars are as much a part of the land as the cold winds of the cry sign and the unmelting ice.
Glenna, the matriarch of the small tribe of Avarosa, has only one daughter, Ash, an Ice Descendant destined to be a warrior, born with an ancient magical connection to the land, and possessed the rare power to use Ice.
Everyone thinks that Ash will succeed her mother and become the next leader of the tribe. However, Ash never longed for that kind of glory.
The cold responsibilities of the bloodline of war and the extraordinary talent of the war made Ash feel isolated, burdened, and lonely.
Her only solace was Sejuani, a little Ice-born girl from her sister tribe who came with her tribe every year to spend the summer hunting around the Ornkar Rocks.
The friendship between the two little girls was all they had in their childhood memories, but it came to an abrupt end after they were ten years old. Somehow, Glenna angered Sejuani's grandmother, and the friendship between their tribes came to an abrupt end.
Soon after, Ash's mother, knowing that her youth was dying, began her lifelong quest for the "throne of Avarosa", which should be a collection of treasures and magical items that she hoped would use to revitalize her people.
But Glenna's belief in prophecy and legend led her to take risks, often bringing the tribe to its knees. Eventually, during a dangerous and unnecessary raid on other tribes' territory, Glenna was killed.
Her sudden death sent young Ash on the run, and most of her people were wiped out.
Ash followed her mother's last map to a deserted glacier, where she was supposed to find Avarosa's grave and her Ice Magic Bow.
Ash used that weapon to complete her mother's revenge and set out to head west.
Whether out of duty or loneliness, Ash has made a name for himself by protecting many of the scattered Furnace tribes along the way.
Instead of treating them as slaves, she chose to accept those who were desperate as full-fledged members of her new tribe.
