Chapter 320: Ancient Demon (Tam's Side Chapter)
Valoran's waterways have been around for a long time, but the demon Tamkenchi has a much older history. From the muddy tent stalls of the Anaconda Valley, through the salt-frosted halls of Bilgewater, to the gilded tables of Piltover and Zaun.
Anyone who has coveted the riches of others will know what it is like to be hungry and thirsty after meeting the King of the River.
The earliest legend about this guy comes from a group of homeless people who traveled to and from the Python River Valley. They mentioned a huge fish with a wide, deep mouth that lured people with insatiable desires.
There's a story about a young man who was known for his honesty. Although he was born to be a boatman, he was tired of seeing the barren riverbanks and longed for a better life.
The King of the River promised him that if he told a little lie, he would give him an unforgettable experience. It seems to be a free benefit, so the boatman talked big about it when he chatted with his brother.
That night, the demon came out and pointed him to a river that he had never noticed before. Following the road, he came to a camp of outsiders. They brought him food and drink, and called him brother.
By daybreak, the boatmen were well fed and ready to go home. Then the demon came again, promising a happier experience if he lied again. Intrigued, he agreed to the deal and deceived his employer.
The river diverged its way again, and he went down the river for a night of greater luxury. Again and again, night after night, the once honest boatman now lied without much effort.
When the river finally flowed into the sea, he found himself alone, overwhelmed and no one to deceive him. So many foolish choices, he is to blame, and he can no longer find his way home.
The bitter waters of the continent have brought the story of the King of the Rivers to Blue Flame Island. As the rumors grew, people gave him the name Tamkench.
In Bilgewater, some people get rich, some people are destitute. Tides ebb and flow, and so does wealth. Many tavern stories mention Old Tamu as a demon who lives in the water, is the most addicted to gambling and is never satisfied.
As a result, this talkative guy became a symbol of the many gambling dens and crime places in the city.
The opening of the Gates of the Sun made it easy for Bilgewater and Piltoverf to trade, and the story of Tamkench became more and more widely known in the City of Evolution and the Zaun beneath.
The children knew him as "Two Coats" because the fish was so fat that they had to sew the two coats together to fit them in.
He wears a smug top hat and a big mouth that is wider than the entire city. He stirred the jealousy of the young mechanics.
It is said that on one day of evolution, he approached an inventor in Pi City who was struggling with her, and gave her an idea that promised to get a wealthy family to take notice.
All he asked for in return was a bunch of her hair. The ambitious woman said yes in one go, and indeed, her work brought her a lucrative contract.
But one invention was not enough, and two coats came back in a hurry. This time he wanted all of her hair. In order not to disappoint his new employer, the inventor agrees again, and Tamm immediately swallows his hair.
However, women still can't make world-famous inventions. The demon has reappeared, and the price of the claim is a fingertip.
A week later, he asked for an ear. After a year, the woman has nothing left to give. In the end, she summoned two overcoats herself and begged him to stop it.
He laughed and opened his mouth, saying that he would help her solve the problem, and then immediately swallowed her whole.
King of the River. Big swing. Yawn. Two coats. Tamkench has many names, but anyone who has called them knows one thing: no matter how tempting his rhetoric may be, you will be lost in his mouth.
For most people in Runeterra the Yodelers aren't something to be feared. Legend has it that they lived in Bandel City, a mysterious hingland filled with quirky trinkets and souvenirs collected from the material realm. While these wonderful creatures often live with mortal peoples for a period of time, they always return home with new stories and experiences.
Sadly, however, there are also some yodelers who have lost their way. Among them is the wizard Vega.
The Darkspawn War hundreds of years ago left a devastated world, and the only light left on Valoran's continent seemed to be the sky overhead.
The scattered survivors looked up to Heaven, and the resurgence of the study of ancient astral magic also attracted the interest of Vega.
In his imagination, he was already the grandmaster of this mystical spell, so the yodeler joined a group of mages in Nokohi, hoping to learn more from them.
They did not doubt the inquisitive newcomer, so he taught them how to gain hope from the rules of the stars.
But while many people are working hard to rebuild the world, there are others who want to conquer it. The ruthless warlord Mordekaiser swept across the land with his army, and anyone who rebelled against his rule was crushed and enslaved, and this group of mages who were not good at fighting was worthless to the tyrant.
He stood above them in that cursed armor, and his piercing eyes fell on Vega, and Maudekaiser recognized his yodeler as he was. He snatched Vega with an iron hand, dragged the loot and ordered the other mages to be executed.
The center of the warlord's newly built megalithic fortress became Vega's prison, and he was forced to use his magic for even darker purposes.
Knowing that the yodelers were more agile and dexterous than any mortal race, Mordkaiser bound Vega to the physical plane, making it impossible for him to escape back to Bandel City.
He was the only prisoner in this hellish place, and this loneliness was the most terrible and cruel torture for the yodelers.
Vega was forced to cast a number of horrific spells, some to strengthen the rule of his dominators, others to create terror for the sake of terror
Yes, terror seems to be the fuel for this dark empire. Vega became a witness in the midst of unimaginable suffering, and he was forced to witness that Maudecaesar's evil deeds had given him near-immortal powers.
Vega didn't know if it had been decades or centuries, but eventually the yodeler's magic and appearance began to distort accordingly
Memories of the past are fading. The question of why he had come to Valoran, where he had come from, and whether he had lived another life before weighed his fragile mind like the last flash of light before a total solar eclipse.
Later, the Wraith Warlord was plotted to persecute by his own men, and his nightmare reign finally ended, but Vega was now unrecognizable.
His eyes were on fire. Even his voice turned into a malicious sneer. He escaped from his magical cage, an unfortunate creature with no interest in the inevitable battle for the throne that followed.
Deep down, perhaps what he longed for most was to rediscover the feeling of security and freedom that all living beings crave.
Even so, instead of choosing to stay away from evil, he embraced it. He donned an armor that symbolized an ominous warlord and vowed to use the only way he could remember to gain respect and instil fear into all who met him with his ruthless evil deeds.
He will summon the wrath of the stars to descend on his enemies and trap them in an endless eternity between the gaps in time. It's just that Vega can't achieve the same success as his former rulers.
Of course, the good inhabitants of Valoran did know to be afraid of him, to some extent. Most often, they will find that the grass in their homes has been burned down, or the large house of the local baron has been razed to the ground.
Sometimes, though, for some reason, groups of robbers are driven out of their lair in the forest, or ferocious shadow wolves are torn to shreds and sprinkled on the town square.
And it's hard to say whether these actions are malicious or some form of assistance. Although Vega is determined to do evil, he always seems to be a cut short.
However, this evil yodeler has not given up on his quest to become the world's greatest villain. With the evil wand in hand, he wanted everyone in front of him to kneel and submit, and if anyone dared to despise him, Vega would cheer in their instantaneousness.
