Chapter 50: Research Diary
Smith looked visibly surprised, and when Issad said he was Charl's former teacher, Smith frowned tightly.
"May I ask how Charr died?"
"We are looking to see if the suicide of two years ago is hiding something. Smith continued mournfully, "Char has provided some clues. β
The room fell silent, and Isad remembered what he had taught Char while Smith tapped his right index finger on his knee with his head down.
Roddy broke the peace.
"Mr. Smith, we would like to have some details on this case. β
Smith looked at Roddy with a very obvious hesitation in his eyes.
"You don't have to worry that we're from the Church. Isad's voice suddenly rang out: "We are just ordinary newspaper employees. β
"How could an ordinary newspaper employee know that I was worried about the church?"
Smith looked at Issad with a solemn expression.
"I'm sure we had the same experience. β
Smith was silent thoughtfully for a moment, then slowly got up.
"Follow me. β
.......
Isad and Roddy followed Smith through the living room to the second floor, where they heard Angel talking to herself as they passed through a room.
Luo Di thought that Angel's symptoms were so severe that she couldn't express them logically, but judging from the words she heard, Angel didn't seem to be as wooden as she seemed before.
Because her tone was extremely gentle and her thoughts were clear at this time, but she couldn't help but sigh in her heart after listening to what she said.
She missed the dead Attana so much that she hallucinated.
If it weren't for the fact that Atana had been dead for two years, Roddy would have thought that Angel was exchanging something interesting with her son.
"For two years, she was always like this, except for the time when she paid tribute to Atana at the place of return. β
Smith seemed lonely, and he was tormented by the change in his wife.
Isad was silent, looking silently at the door, as if he could see through the wooden door to Angel, who was communicating something interesting with Atana in the room.
"However, it can at least make Angel smile, and only then can I feel that my Angel is still there. β
Smith comforted himself and led Isad and Roddy to his study.
The study was very small, with only a desk covered with a white cloth and two rows of bookshelves, Smith motioned for the two to wait, and then went straight to the bookshelf, seemingly looking for some books, but Roddy vaguely saw Smith touching different books in the same way.
With a click, two rows of bookshelves slowly opened.
This turned out to be a secret room!
Smith smiled slightly at the surprised expressions of Issad and Roddy.
"I could feel the surveillance, and although I didn't feel that way anymore, it was especially important for me to have a safe enough space to be safe and secure for safety. β
Issad nodded in agreement.
It wasn't until he entered the chamber that Roddy realized what Smith meant by "security."
The whole secret room is not big, like a bird, although the five organs are small, but they are complete, in addition to what really makes Luo Di's heart feel a piece of experimental area that occupies most of the space, and all kinds of random stacks of books in the area.
"Looks like that's how you investigated? Experimental equipment. β
Isad casually glanced at the experimental utensils in the test area and said as usual.
"Huh. Smith chuckled, a slight madness in his eyes, "This is what my son is studying, and you can't imagine how important it is!"
It didn't matter if it mattered to Roddy, but when he saw the familiar experimental utensils, he knew what Smith was doing, so he leaned over to Isad's side imperceptibly.
Although he didn't seem to be as good as the Extraordinaire artifact that Issad was holding, Bob's pocket watch was useful.
"I'm not going to tell you, though. Smith quickly calmed down and said sincerely, "This is for your own good." β
"You don't seem to be worried that I'll tell the police or the department the secrets here, they'reβ" Issad continued, gesturing to the test area:
"Normal research doesn't require mouse guts. β
Smith looked at Issad in surprise, then grinned for a moment.
"Yes, no, I also believe that you are angry enough at the death of your student, Char, who once said that his teacher was an absolutely respectable and respectable person who pursued the truth and regarded it as his life. β
"Isn't it?"
Smith tilted his head slightly and stared at Issad, who felt very different from the previous father who had lost his child and was in pain.
It's crazier, it's more unpredictable, and it even feels like a different person.
Roddy's heart sank, which was enough to show that Smith had been negatively affected by the 'Extraordinary'.
Isad didn't seem to notice the change in Smith, and still replied in a normal tone and in a normal way.
"Sure, but... I suggest you pause your research. β
Smith smiled noncommittally, turned to the edge of the bed, took a notebook from under his pillow and handed it to Isad.
"This is my son's diary, you can take it if you want, but I've erased some of the research. β
Isad took the diary and tucked it under his armpit, bending slightly.
"Thank you for the clue Mr. Smith, this is really helpful to me. β
Smith returned to his normal state, and after sitting down with some difficulty on the edge of the bed, he said with a sad expression:
"I also hope you can find the real cause of my son's death. β
"Of course. Issad replied firmly.
.....
After leaving the Smith house, Isad took a cursory look at the diary, and Roddy didn't notice that something was wrong with Issad's expression.
"Roddy, I'll give you this diary. β
Isad cautiously handed the diary to Roddy, adding:
"I'm going to be alone in the afternoon to the port of Beside, and I need to make sure of something, so you'll have a whole afternoon at home studying this journal. β
Roddy took the diary and nodded, indicating no objection.
The two did not return to the newspaper office, and Isad went directly out of the city to find a remote carriage, while Roddy returned home with his diary, but when the two parted, Issad seemed to say something to Roddy:
"Roddy, in the process of investigating the truth, often takes the path that seems to have nothing to do with the truth. β
"But you have to remember that no matter how inconspicuous or irrelevant the clues may seem, just go down and you'll find that the truth is there. β
