Chapter 15: Bad News: Pietrovic is dead

Theoretically, the Nets would be perfectly fine to try out Muraysan any day before the draft begins.

In addition, Davidson is not in a hurry to let Murraysan come to the Nets for a tryout, so in the next period of time, he has nothing important to do every day, that is, to do some trivial things such as helping Chuck's father run errands and sorting out documents.

Every night, Davidson would enter the club to see if he could touch a sledgehammer.

As a result, Sledgehammer disappeared completely as if he had been trafficked......

Davidson wondered, no matter how beautiful Sledgehammer's girlfriend is, she won't be so beautiful that she can't sleep all night, right?

He didn't have any evolution coins in his hand, and the only thing Davidson could do every night in the club was to hang out.

From time to time, look at the stele and make a note of the list of drafts for this year's draft.

……

In the blink of an eye, the time has entered June, and the date of the draft is getting closer and closer.

But at this point in time, there was bad news in the basketball world.

The Nets' leading scorer last season, Dragan Pietrovic, known as Mozart in basketball, was killed in a car accident.

It is now the time for the start of the European Basketball Championships, Pietrovic led the Croatian national team to participate in the European Championships in Germany, and led the team to beat Poland by 30 points in the first game.

The whole basketball circle shook completely.

The city of New Jersey in particular couldn't believe that their Nets' ace was killed.

After Davidson learned the news, he was stunned for a moment.

He hasn't met Pietrovic but has watched him on TV and loves the European player.

It can be said that as long as you are a basketball fan, you will definitely be impressed by the charm of this basketball Mozart.

He scored 112 points in a single game, and once played against Jordan in the Olympics without falling behind.

In the '86 draft, the 22-year-old Pietrovic was drafted by the Trail Blazers in the third round.

By the time he landed in the NBA, it was 89 years old, and he was 25 years old at that time.

In the year and a half of the Trail Blazers, Pietrovic didn't get much of a chance to perform because of the two All-Stars on the team, Drexler and Terry Porter.

At the beginning of '91, in a three-way deal, the European basketball grandmaster finally ushered in his own spring and got the opportunity to join the Nets.

In the 91-92 season, the average points per game soared to 20.6 points.

Last season, the 92-93 season, the average points per game further improved to 22.3 points, surpassing the champion Coleman and becoming the Nets' leading scorer.

If you just score 20+, it's not enough to prove the strength of this player.

The main thing is that his offensive efficiency is quite terrible.

With an average of 51.8% overall shooting rate and 44.9% three-point shooting rate per game, he is unrivaled among the league guards!

Not just in today's league, but in the entire history of the NBA, no 196-year-tall quarterback has played this way.

Mozart, the greatest star of all time in Europe and the grandmaster of basketball, has left forever, and countless people have sighed.

Chuck Daly was so sad that he didn't eat much for the whole day, and Pietrovic's death hit him hard.

Davidson didn't know how to comfort his father, so he just sat silently beside his father in a daze.

In the evening, Dad went to attend the team management office meeting, and a little minion like Davidson was naturally not eligible to participate.

Petlovevic's death is definitely bad news for the Nets.

Sometimes it's really sad to think about the Nets in the past two seasons, last season saw the playoffs start, Kenny Anderson and Sam Bowway were injured, this season hasn't started, and the team's ace has passed away.

The meeting lasted until ten o'clock in the evening, when Daddy Chuck returned to the head coach's office with a dejected face.

"Wilson, let's go home." Daddy whispered.

……

In the next few days, the Nets held a memorial service at their home arena, the Continental Airlines Arena, where countless fans came, many of whom wept to see off the meteoric European basketball maestine.

At the memorial service, the Nets retired Pietrovic's No. 3 jersey as a way to remember the great player forever.

……

The people are gone, and the remaining living people still have to finish the unfinished business.

The Nets brought in Chuck Daley, the goal is to win the championship, and the backcourt of Pietrovic and Kenny Anderson in their team is considered the top backcourt in the league.

Now without Petlovevic, it is clear that just one Kenny Anderson will not work, and the Nets will need to trade in an All-Star backcourt to replace Pietrovic.

Recruiting an All-Star level backcourt, this is a big deal, Chuck Daley has been in meetings every day these days, and the phone has never been disconnected, and the whole person is a lot haggard, which makes Davidson look a little distressed.

But on a big deal like a trade, Davidson couldn't help Daddy Chuck worry at all.

……

In the club, Sledgehammer Anderson, who had been missing for a long time, finally appeared.

"Is it Pietrovic who died?" Sledgehammer looked at Davidson's face a little dull, and couldn't help asking.

Davidson nodded, and Sledgehammer knew that this was normal.

He revealed to Sledgehammer that he had a way to join the Nets immediately.

And Pietrovic's death is one of several points in NBA history that should be remembered.

"Hey, a generation of talents, it's a pity."

"We, the fans of later generations, have actually imagined that if Pietrovic had not had a car accident, it was very likely that he would lead the Nets to the Eastern Conference finals, and then it could be a showdown between Mozart and the Flyers, what would that be like? I think it must be exciting. Sledgehammer said with a sigh.

"Forget it, don't talk about these sad things, Sledgehammer, now I have something to ask you." Davidson said with a wry smile.

"Huh? What's the matter? As long as it's not about revealing important future information, I can help you as much as I can. Sledgehammer patted his chest quite righteously and said.

"I want to get some player manuals from the 80s or 90s, lend me 500 evolution coins, and I will pay back double." Davidson was a little embarrassed to speak.

"I guess, because of Petrovich's death, now that the Nets are trading, do you want to know some information about the players and avoid the Nets trading for the players, right?" Sledgehammer was quite clever, and from Davidson's words, he guessed Davidson's purpose.

That's exactly what Davidson was going to do, he wanted to help Chuck's dad worry about it, and although the chances of him affecting the trade were slim, Davidson felt he had to do something.
