CHAPTER XXV. Jar No. 42 is safe and sound
Yang Baoliang is the chief of staff of the Anshan Public Security Fire Detachment, born in 1967, and enlisted in the army in 1985.
At 20:40 on July 16, Yang Baoliang received an order from the detachment leader Wang Wei. He was ordered to lead the most capable personnel and the best equipment to Dalian in the shortest possible time. Yang Baoliang gathered 130 officers and soldiers and 25 fire fighting vehicles and arrived at the fire scene at 2 a.m. on the 17th.
Wang Wei took Yang Baoliang to the fire command headquarters to ask for instructions. The command ordered them to be stationed in the Nanhai tank farm to fully protect the No. 42, No. 43, and No. 48 crude oil tanks and the No. 2 import and export tank, the latter of which is a large valve group.
Truth be told, it is not an easy task to find a tank farm in the South China Sea on a blazing fire. The employees of the factory were evacuated. Even if I met an employee, I was not familiar with the reservoir area, and I couldn't tell the oil quality and critical parts clearly. Pipes crisscrossed the ground, and there were flowing fires everywhere.
They found a map of the distribution of the factory area, wiped the oil stain off it with their sleeves, and found the Nanhai tank farm. Entering the position, Wang Wei announced the establishment of the front-line command of the Anshan City Public Security Fire Detachment, with Wang Wei as the commander-in-chief, Hong Wenjie, deputy detachment leader, and Yang Baoliang, chief of staff, as deputy commander-in-chief.
Wang Wei ordered Yang Baoliang to lead the first attack team to go deep into the fire scene to fully understand the fire situation. Hong Wenjie led the second attack group to attack the fire from the north and advance to the south, and the deputy chief of staff Zhang Guowen advanced from the west to the east of the fire field, and the task of the first step was to eliminate the flowing fire on the ground.
Wang Wei's capable and clear command ability set up a position for the Anshi Gong'an Mountain Fire Detachment and quickly plunged into the firefighting battle to win valuable time.
Yang Baoliang went deep into the fire scene to reconnoiter and found that the No. 2 box had been grilled by flames, and a big explosion could occur at any time. Tank No. 42, with a crude oil storage capacity of 100,000 tons, was burned and deformed. After the crude oil steel tank is deformed, it loses its mechanical strength and collapses, causing the crude oil to flow, and none of the 130 officers and soldiers on the position can escape, forming a new fire area.
The four attack groups of the Anshan City Public Security Fire Detachment launched a tug-of-war with the fire from north to south and from west to east. At that time, their positions were on the sidelines, swept up in fire. The heat radiation blew in, and the burning was unbearable. The white helmets were baked brownish-red. The fire came out, and they retreated. When the fire retreated, they rushed to attack. By 5 o'clock in the morning, they had advanced more than 100 meters from west to east. To the vicinity of the small bridge of tank No. 42, the fire was extremely violent, with flames reaching a height of more than 30 meters. Zhang Chaoyang, the instructor of the special service squadron, ordered Liu Haibo, the squad leader of the special service squadron, and Wang Wei, a soldier, to set up cannons on the bridge to extinguish the fire that broke the pipeline. It's only 10 meters away from tank 42. The fractured pipe had been broken, and the rift more than one meter wide burst into flames and rushed into the sky more than 30 meters high. If the fire of the broken pipe cannot be extinguished, the No. 42 tank will definitely explode.
When the attacking team went all out to extinguish the fire of the broken pipe, the fire that had just been extinguished on the west side behind them was rekindled, and the crude oil in the ditch that had been extinguished was bubbling and would rekindle at any time. At this time, the attacking group was surrounded by fire in front and behind the bridge and was in great danger. Fortunately, they used foam guns in time to extinguish the fire behind them. After 3 hours of hard fighting, the Anshan detachment kept the No. 2 box and the No. 42 tank, advanced 100 meters, entered the No. 37 tank area, and joined the Shenyang City Public Security Fire Detachment. The position advanced 210 meters.
During the battle, the general headquarters ordered the Anshan detachment to withdraw from the position to reinforce the No. 103 tank, and the detachment leader Wang Wei stated the battle situation without leaving an inch. If they had left the Nanhai tank farm at that time, Tank 42 would have formed a new sea of fire. The commander's judgment and decisiveness make success or failure determined by one thought.
Yang Baoliang recalled the battle and talked about three feelings:
1. Wang Wei, the leader of the detachment, went deep into the Nanhai tank farm with him to reconnoiter the fire, and there were only the two of them at that time. They climbed to the commanding heights and overlooked the fire, and saw that the burning No. 103 tank was 20 meters above the Anshan position. Yang Baoliang said: "The No. 103 tank exploded, and the oil fire was the first to pour into the Anshan position. Wang Wei didn't squeak, and after a while he said, "We're going to set up a position here." Yang Baoliang admired Wang Wei's decisiveness at the critical moment.
Second, the foam cannon in the hands of squad leader Liu Haibo weighed more than 20 kilograms, and weighed more than 70 kilograms after being filled with foam. Without the training to build an iron army, this battle could not be completed.
Third, the government's investment has added sophisticated equipment to the firefighting units, which has provided a very important guarantee for winning the battle and protecting the lives and safety of officers and men.
