Sun Dejiang was not a fire commander when he got into the car, he was an engineer of the combat training section of the Shenyang Public Security Fire Detachment. Sun Dejiang was born in 1967 and enlisted in the army in 1987 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. On the position of the Shenyang detachment at the 7-16 fire ground, he and the officers and men of the Qigong squadron braved great danger to go deep into the scene of the valve group fire, find out the fire, formulate a set of combat plans, and report to the headquarters of the Shenyang City Public Security Fire Detachment. The command of the detachment adopted Sun Dejiang's plan and appointed Sun Dejiang as the first commander of the forward position.

There were a total of 12 people in the forward position. Sun Dejiang was the commander, Xie Lifeng, the instructor of the Qigong Squadron, and seven non-commissioned officers and soldiers were the main attackers, Zhang Peng and Yu Hai were the drivers, and Meng Fanjun was responsible for the rear water supply.

After Sun Dejiang and 12 others entered the position, they first carried out fire reconnaissance. They found that the valve group connecting tanks No. 37 and No. 42 had been cracked and deformed by the fire. After the valve burns out, the oil circuit cannot be closed. The crude oil at the bottom of the valve group continues to leak out to form a large-scale flowing fire, which flows to the crude oil tank farm. If the fire in the valve group area is not controlled, tanks 37 and 42 are bound to detonate, triggering a chain explosion of tanks of high-risk chemicals. After careful calculation and demonstration, Sun Dejiang made the following arrangements: Using the 16-meter-high spray truck of the squadron in the development zone and the foam anti-chemical vehicle of the special service brigade to set up two mobile artillery positions on the west side of the No. 37 and No. 42 tanks, to cool and suppress the explosion of the fiercely burning valve group, and the Qigong squadron set up two foam gun positions to eliminate the flowing fire on the ground, and after the fire burned and stabilized, a mobile artillery position was converted into a foam gun position. Such arrangements and control can give full play to the power of the Shenyang detachment's new high-tech equipment and complete the task under the condition that the amount of foam is insufficient. The two tasks of extinguishing the fire of the valve group and cooling tanks No. 37 and No. 42 were taken into account.

This operational plan was approved by the detachment headquarters, and the detachment leaders demanded that Sun Dejiang carry forward the spirit of the Iron Army, which is not afraid of death or hardship, and lead the officers and men to successfully complete the work of fighting the fire in the valve group.

This is not the first time that Sun Dejiang has been born and died. Every old firefighter has crossed the threshold of escape from death several times. In the winter of 1993, a fire broke out in an old-fashioned residential building with a stuffy roof in Heping District, Shenyang. The fire started on the roof of the building. The building had a ridge and a sloped roof, and it froze immediately after the water cannon hit it. Sun Dejiang went to the roof with a water gun to extinguish the fire, slipped and fell after a few steps, and slipped down the ice slope, fortunately a parapet wall was built on the edge of the roof, otherwise he would have landed. Three floors, if you fall down, you can't die and you have to be seriously injured.

Sun Dejiang's second adventure was in 1998 to extinguish the fire of a liquefied gas tanker in Yuhong District, Shenyang City. At that time, the large tank truck unloaded liquefied gas into the small tank tanker, and suddenly caught fire. A large tank loaded with 40 tons of liquefied gas exploded, and the body of the car was blown into three pieces. A section flew 50 meters south, cutting down a row of trees with a diameter of more than 20 centimeters at breast height. One section razed the factory to the north to the ground. The middle one sat down in the ground after the explosion, and only a layer of steel was left on the surface. Sun Dejiang was on the east side at the time and survived.

Stepping on the 7.16 fire field, especially stepping into the valve group position, Sun Dejiang felt that this battle was a hundred times more dangerous than the two battles he had experienced. Tank 37 has been baked red, and 50 meters away from tank 37 is a tank of high-risk chemicals. Sun Dejiang didn't know what was in these tanks at the time, the crude oil tanks were black, and the tanks were white. This distinction proves that they are chemicals. If the fire spreads and is not controlled, the oil and chemical tanks will be blown up, and no one will be able to escape. When the deadline came, Sun Dejiang had an epiphany that only by extinguishing the fire in the valve group could he survive, and if he couldn't survive, he would have fulfilled his duty as a soldier. Sooner or later, people have to die, and it is much more glorious to die on the battlefield than on a hospital bed. Sun Dejiang's confidence also comes from the Qigong Squadron, they are brave and good at fighting, and they are the best soldiers among the elite soldiers.
