(17) Brachial plexus injury

This disease belongs to the category of "injured tendons" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is usually caused by trauma, stretching, crush injuries (eg, broken collarbones, tourniquet use), lead or alcohol poisoning, and chemical injuries. In addition, diagnostic paracentesis can be injurious.

Superior brachial plexus injury is characterized by drooping of the entire upper extremity, inability to abduct and externally rotate the affected shoulder, and inability to flex and extend the elbow. a narrow sensory impairment area on the outside of the forearm of the upper arm; Subbrachial plexus trunk injury manifests as atrophy of the small muscles of the hand in a scaphoid shape, and there is a sensory loss area on the medial aspect of the forearm of the hand; If the entire brachial plexus is damaged, the affected limb will sags and the muscles atrophy.

(1) The patient is in a sitting or supine position, and the surgeon gently rubs the Jiquan and Shaohai points of the affected limb with the tip of the middle finger for 1~3 minutes, as shown in this figure (1).

(2) The surgeon then rubs the forearm and hindarm of the affected limb to relieve the symptoms of spasm, pain, numbness, etc., as shown in Figure (2).

2. Precautions

(1) Mild injury of the brachial plexus has a good prognosis. It can be combined with appropriate equipment and functional exercises to promote neurological recovery.

(2) Exercise the upper limbs appropriately, but do not exercise too much to prevent traction injury.

(3) Maintain good living habits and routines, and eat more calcium-rich foods appropriately.

(4) Shoulder well points are prohibited in pregnant patients, and this method should be used with caution.
