Volume III: Tumultuous Beginnings (Remastered) Chapter 6: The Abyss of Pain (1)

The coast, southeast of the Sea of Mist, is surrounded by a series of winding mountains that form an area known as Firas. Anger from Gristom often swept through the area with a thick fog, and the crashing shores and mountains meant that the area was only able to communicate with the outside world for only a few months of the year. Poor traffic and a dangerous natural environment have left the area inaccessible, allowing Firas to preserve its pristine ecosystem.

You'd be hard-pressed to see a sapient creature here, even the trolls don't want to survive here, the beasts are the rulers of this place, and the thick fog from the sea of mist will make them fall into all kinds of hallucinations and end their lives in crazy gibberish.

Only the farthest stretch of the mountain range from the coast carries the remnants of civilization, and a handful of ogres occupy a ruin built by the ancient elves and worship their ancestors, more than a hundred kilometers south of the ruins known as the Hammer of Doom, a relatively gentle ridge of the Philas Mountains.

The elves set up a camp on this ridge called Salanar, which means "watchman of the distant journey", and an army of farfarers guarded the area while watching over the nearby Woodclaw Ridge. These Far Travelers, who possess the classes of Thief, Archer and Mage at the same time, are truly elite, and their individual strength is at least Rank 5.

An army of nearly a thousand Far Wanderers is not a force that can be wasted casually, even for the elves with deep pockets, and the main reason why these long-eared people are willing to put this elite army in Sarannar to watch the gate is for the abyss of pain on Woodclaw Ridge.

In the world of Ntagre, there are actually only three true gods, that is, the fallen god of creation and the two goddesses who have fallen into a deep sleep - the silver moon goddess Fugar and the blood moon goddess Luojiaer, other than that, all the other gods are actually just powerful creatures, even if they can destroy the world with a single lift of their hands and feet, but they are all creatures born from this universe at the root.

If this universe is compared to a company in the real world, then the creator god is the chairman of the company, the two goddesses are his secretaries, and the so-called gods can only be regarded as middle and high-level leaders at best, they enjoy the dividends provided by the company (the power created by the origin of the world), manage the company's employees (creatures of each world), and are also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the company (maintaining the stability of the world and ensuring the normal functioning of the world according to their respective priesthoods). They can't change the way the corporation works (they can't change the underlying rules), and they can't leave the corporation and continue to have the power (losing their origin is losing their power), so many people, except for the staunch believers, don't believe that these gods can really protect them, even though in most cases they are the ones who are protecting the world.

And among these gods, the first group to be promoted are called the ancient gods, the power of the ancient gods is strong and weak, and over time, some ancient gods have fallen, or become demigods because of the loss of power, but as the oldest group of gods in this universe, they still have some special abilities.

The depths of the Abyss of Pain on Woodclaw Ridge are sealed with the power of an ancient god, as the first chaotic creature born in pain and despair, the ancient god Asadago represents chaos and pain, and after the fall of the god of creation, the ancient dragon Isis, under the orders of the goddess of the two moons, defeated the giant ocean lord, destroyed his body, and sealed a part of his power in the abyss of pain.

Asadago's shattered body was thrown into the sea, giving birth to the first sea giants, and his soul mingled with the currents of the depths of the sea, causing chaos in the flow of the waters throughout Gristom.

In the middle of the First Age, the elves at their peak fearlessly explored the world, and some elven archmages also set their sights on the abyss of pain, trying to gain further advancement by studying the power of the ancient god Asardago.

As their research deepened, so did the power of the Old Gods, and the chaotic nature of Azardago eventually drove these archmages into madness, and their research became increasingly dangerous, eventually attracting the attention of the dragons.

Descendants of the ancient dragon Isis, the Red Dragons destroyed the institute and buried it deep underground with the help of the Black Dragon, but the remnants of the texts still left clues about the ancient god. At the end of the First Age, the collapse of the Elven Empire caused many careerists to sprout undeserved thoughts, and one of the unlucky people found the buried place of this research institute somewhere, and wanted to use the help of this power to replace the Elven Empire to rule the world.

It didn't take long for the careerist's delusion to be shattered by the rising humans, but he still opened this Pandora's box, and the remaining elves could no longer have enough strength to seal this power as they did at the beginning, so they could only seal it off and set up a camp nearby to monitor the situation in the abyss of pain.

More than a month ago, Yu Bin followed the Fireblade Clan to attack the Sweetwater Oasis, and stole the killing of Shaka Khan from Canos by fishing in troubled waters, and his purpose at that time was purely for the huge experience points, and the experience points that a hero-level centaur khan could provide were not comparable to those ordinary centaurs.

The result also made Yu Bin very satisfied, and the experience provided by Shaka Khan allowed Yu Bin to greatly shorten the leveling time, but at the same time, it also caused a problem.

The rune sword used to kill Shaka Death Breath, after that, it was as if some switch had been triggered, and it often transmitted some vague sounds to Yu Bin, which were as irritating as mosquitoes buzzing in your ears, but when you wanted to listen carefully, you found that it was just an irregular dream. Yu Bin struggled to barely hear a few words, among which "Abyss of Pain" was the one that appeared most frequently, and he thought that this place should have a lot to do with the rune sword of Death Breath.

Therefore, when the messenger of the will to death reappeared, Yu Bin made a request for an advanced challenge in the abyss of pain, and finally agreed. However, the meaningful smile of the black humanoid representing the will to die when he looked at the rune sword hanging from Yu Bin's waist still made Yu Bin feel inexplicably worried.

Passing through the opened spatial portal, the black humanoid gave Yu Bin a rune stone: "The enemy you are about to challenge is in the depths of this ruin, and those ancient elven archmages have built an arena for entertainment, where you will face your fate!" Once you've succeeded, you'll be able to walk through the arena to the core of this ruin, where there's a rune altar, put this rune stone on it, and I'll reappear! ”

"Don't you need to be supervised?"

"The seal of the ancient dragon Isis is still running, my power cannot exist here for a long time, this time, you have no time limit, but I suggest that you better not delay for too long, the power of the ancient gods sealed here is trying to break free from the seal of the ancient dragon Isis at any time, and any intelligent creature is the best carrier for him to get out of the predicament."

In other words, there's a good chance that the enemy waiting in that arena isn't a sapient being.

Although the remains of this institute were initially excavated by a careerist, his main body is still buried deep underground, and Yu Bin is located in the fault zone between the exposed part of the earth and the underground main structure.

The Woodclaw Jackals who live on the Woodclaw Ridge occupy the surface part of the ruins, and persistently expand their living space underground, it is difficult to say whether this behavior is influenced by the ancient god Azadago, but Yu Bin can still find wandering gnolls from time to time on the next journey.

As one of the three soft persimmons in the world of Entagre, the Jackals occupy the third place for warlike and brutal reasons, and in second place are the cavemen, these creatures that live in the dark underground have evolved a bat-like ultrasonic detector officer over a long period of time, replacing the eyes, but their low strength and submissive personality still make them a gas bag that anyone can bully. And in the first place, the first place in the world of Ntagre, is the kobold who can be seen everywhere!

If cavemen live underground and rely on the environment to provide protection, then kobolds rely on cowardice to maintain the reproduction of the race, and this creature similar to a puppy walking upright will subconsciously choose to surrender in the face of any threat, so many races will use them as slaves or miners.

In contrast, the Gnolls have always been the enemy of other intelligent creatures because of their aggressiveness and brutality, and there is only one reason why they can thrive and survive when they are weak, and their footprints are almost half the world - they will live!

The elves have a phrase to describe the gnolls: the only difference between them and the locusts is that they eat everything!

It only takes about two years for a gnolll cub to enter adulthood and begin to reproduce, while a female gnolls can give birth twice a year, with at least ten litters each time, so strong fertility allows gnolls to quickly expand the number of a group. In order to satisfy the food needs of the group, these gnolls can eat anything, dare to eat anything, and even eat the oldest individuals of the group to survive when necessary.

If it weren't for those intelligent creatures who launched a purge of the gnolls everywhere from time to time, I am afraid that these gnolls would have been able to occupy the entire world just by giving birth without control.

In fact, in Salanar's Far Wanderer troops, their daily mission is to destroy the gnolls on Woodpaw Ridge!

After stepping into the main body of the ruins of the research institute, that is, the real abyss of pain, Yu Bin couldn't help but be amazed by the creativity of those ancient elven archmages, after tens of thousands of years of time, the walls still remain smooth, and the lighting arrays set up in various parts make the entire ruins reveal a feeling like a futuristic science fiction world, the flat ground and the rounded passage can't be seen as the handiwork of the elves at all, walking in it, making Yu Bin feel like he is walking in a space battleship in a science fiction world.

The collapse of the Elven Empire has left too many ancient skills lost in the war, and the long-eared people who still call themselves elves today are just the lucky ones who have inherited a small part of the legacy of that vast empire, but even so, occupying a large area centered on the Eternal Song Forest, the elves are still one of the most powerful races in the world, which shows how powerful the Elven Empire was in the first place, which ruled almost the entire world.

Walking along the passage, Yu Bin was surprised to find that no matter how far he walked, he couldn't see the end of the passage, which was obviously impossible, because the entire Muclaw Ridge was only a few hundred square kilometers, and he had been traveling in this passage for almost two hours.

"Traps? Or is it a special illusion? Yu Bin stopped, stroking the smooth wall, the still working lighting circle made the front wall reveal a silvery white color, the material was close to metal.

Yu Bin thought that this was more like some kind of mechanism, at least he didn't think that the elven archmages who built this institute would set up anything dangerous here, just like you wouldn't dig a pit in the place where you would enter your house and change your shoes and wait for someone to jump in.

Fortunately, players in the previous life have long had a deeper understanding of various mechanisms, after all, as a player, daily life is to fight monsters and upgrade equipment, dismantle temples, dig graves and dig corpses, there are not a few diamond diamonds, where dare to do porcelain work, whether it is ruins or mausoleums, they are full of all kinds of dangerous mechanisms and traps.

Yu Bin quickly figured out how this mechanism works by setting up markers at several forks in the road, which is a three-dimensional architectural mechanism known as the Endless Corridor, which, from the player's point of view, is still stuck in confusing the space with immutable references, making people think that they are always in the same place. In fact, the whole mechanism is divided into four ellipses that intersect each other, each ellipse only connects with the other parts in the closing part, and because of the silvery white visual residue of the wall in the corridor, it is easy to overlook the intersection of the two ellipses and another narrow passage blocked on the other side of the wall.

After knowing how this mechanism works, it will be easier for Yu Bin to go out, and after going counterclockwise at each fork, he can find the entrance to the core by going around the inner line.

Yu Bin is glad that this place has become a ruin, in fact, this mechanism called the Endless Corridor is not as harmless as it seems, under the control of the archmage, the four ellipses can be moved, that is to say, the passage to the junction point leads to which ellipse is completely controlled by the controller, in that case, to find the real exit, the difficulty is simply straight up.
