Chapter 379: Group Stage Draw
During the play-in tournament, the teams that were directly exempted from participating in the play-in tournament were training intensively, but the twelve teams that were deeply involved in the tournament engaged in a desperate battle, and finally four teams were able to stand out, and the number of wild card teams reached as many as two.
In addition, the winning team in the MSI and Wild Card Zone, the Japanese GR team, a total of five teams were able to enter the group stage, and the 16 teams that entered the group stage were three LCK teams guaranteed, two LPL teams plus one from the Play-In Tournament, two LCSNA teams plus one from the Play-In Tournament, two LCSEU and LMS teams each guaranteed, and two Wild Card teams promoted from the Play-in Tournament and one from MSI.
A total of 16 teams will be able to advance to the group stage of the League of Legends S10 Finals, and before the start of the group stage, the 16 finalists will be divided into four groups of ABCD to play a double round-robin single-game match, each with four teams. Each team plays two games intermittently against other teams in their group.
The rules of the double round-robin format are that all teams in the same group can meet twice, and the game will be played in two BO1 matches, in which the winner will earn one point, and the loser will have no points, and finally the two teams with the higher points in the group can directly advance to the quarterfinals and continue the next matches!
If two of the teams are tied, the head-to-head win-loss record will be used to determine the first team to decide. If the two teams have the same head-to-head record, then if the two teams will tie for first or second place in their group, then they will play a tiebreaker to determine the finalist. If the tiebreaker does not determine the first or second place in the group, i.e. if the third and fourth placed teams in the group are tied, then no tiebreaker will be played.
If there are three teams tied for the record, then all the head-to-head records involving the winning team will be taken into account. If a team has a higher winning record in the showdown (i.e. winning more than 50% of the games) than all other teams (i.e. winning more than 50% of the games), that team will automatically become the top winning team.
In this case, the other two teams (i.e. the teams with no winning record compared to the two draws) will need to play a tiebreaker. The loser of the match will be deemed the last team to draw and the winner will play a tiebreaker against the highest tiebreaker. The winner of the second tiebreaker will be considered the highest tiebreaker among the teams in the draw, and the loser will be considered the second team in the tie.
For example, if Team A wins 2-0 against Team B, Team A is tied with Team C with 1-1, and Team C is tied with Team B with 1-1, then Team A will be designated as the top winner, and Team B and Team C will play a match, and the winner will play Team A with a bye into the match.
If no team has a higher head-to-head win record than any other team in a draw (i.e. no team has the highest head-to-head win, or more than one team has a head-to-head win), then the total time each team wins (i.e. the sum of the time it takes for each team to win each match) will be calculated.
The two teams with the most total wins (i.e. the two teams with the longest total time to win the match) will play a tiebreaker. The loser of the match will be deemed the last team to draw and the winner will play a tiebreaker against the highest tiebreaker. The winner of the second tiebreaker will be considered the highest tiebreaker among the teams in the draw, and the loser will be considered the second team in the tie.
In the unlikely event of a four-team draw, these teams will play a single-elimination tournament based on the total time each team has won all their games. Throughout the single-elimination tournament, teams play BO1 matches. Seeding will be determined by the team that takes the least time to win the tournament in the group stage.
The four teams will play two first-round matches separately; In the first two matches, the No. 1 seed (i.e., the team with the fewest total wins) will face the No. 4 seed (i.e., the team with the most total wins), while the No. 2 seed will take on the No. 3 seed.
The losing team will be eliminated from the tournament. Next, the winner of the third match will be seeded first, and the loser will be seeded second.
The draw is conducted by players sent by each major team, and there can only be a maximum of one team from each region in each group, in case the team from one region is eliminated due to a civil war at the beginning of the group stage, for example, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the LPL region will not be placed in the same group.
At the same time, there is only one team from pool 1 in each group, only two teams from pool 2 in each group, and only one team from each group that advances to the play-in stage.
The No. 1 seed shown in Pool 1 is determined by the top four regions from the Mid-Season Championship Division, which this year are the LCK, LPL, LMS and European LCS regions, while Pool 3 is the team that will advance from the Play-In Tournament and Pool 2 is the other teams from each region.
The draw took place quickly, with a total of two draw bowls on the draw platform, which included all the seeded teams. The groupings are arranged in alphabetical order, i.e. a, b, c, d from left to right.
First, all teams from Pool 1 will be randomly drawn, followed by Pool 2, and finally Pool 3, who has just made their way out of the twelve Play-In teams
When a seed is drawn, it will be placed in the appropriate group in alphabetical order without causing the other team to be placed in a valid position, resulting in an invalid draw.
For example, if a seeded draw is placed in Group A, which would cause one of the next seeded teams to violate the above rules, we will have that seeded team "skip" Group A and put it in one of the groups where B, C, or D have a spot.
When it is the turn of the draw for Pool 2, the allocation of seeds to Pool 2 in each group will only begin after each group already has a seeded team from Pool 2, unless doing so would result in a violation of the aforementioned grouping rules.
For example, if the No. 2 seed team in the LPL region EBF is the first team in pool 2 to be drawn, but the No. 1 seed BF in the LPL region has been placed in Group A, according to Rule 1, there can only be one team from the same region in the group, then the LPL No. 2 seed team RNG cannot be placed in Group A, but can only be placed in Group B, because there are still places reserved for pool 2 teams in Group B, and there are no other teams from the LPL region.
And because the teams are drawn randomly, under the restrictions of multiple rules, it may not be possible to be grouped, resulting in the draw being "invalid". The conditions for invalid draws to occur will vary depending on how teams are distributed in the team pool each year, but the general process for excluding invalid draws is the same as in previous years.
For example, there are two pool 3 spots left after the draw (Group C and Group D), and two pool 3 seeds need to be placed in these spots (3rd seed in the European LCS and 3rd seed in the North American LCS). Because both Groups C and D already have a North American LCS team, the group cannot accommodate another North American LCS team, so the No. 3 seed in the North American LCS region cannot be placed in either Group C or Group D.
There are two ways to solve this problem. First, reallocate until the above situation is completely eliminated. However, this method may result in an unlimited number of duplicate draws. In a live-streamed ceremony, the move was clearly unrealistic.
The second method is that we have been monitoring the process of drawing lots, and through a series of logical judgments, we can predict whether the allocation of a team will lead to the inability to be grouped in the following rounds. If this is possible (especially when teams 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 are drawn), we will change the position assigned to the currently drawn team to avoid it.
The dilemma in this example is unsolvable. The problem lies in the allocation of the No. 3 seed in the LPL region. When the No. 3 seed in the LPL was placed in Group B, while there was no violation of the rules, the result was that one of the remaining teams (the No. 3 seed in the North American LCS) could not be placed in either Group C or Group D.
In order to avoid invalid draws, if the 14th draw is a team from the LPL region, it must be placed in Group C, as other options will result in invalid draws. Similarly, when the remaining two teams are drawn, the North American LCS teams will only be placed in Group B, and the European LCS teams will be placed in Group D.
Among them, because the LCK region does not need to participate in the play-in round, there will be three LCK teams in the group stage to participate in the draw, and because the LPL No. 3 seed team MD successfully advanced from the play-in round to the group stage, so there will be three teams in the LPL region to participate in the group stage draw, so at least two LPL teams will meet LCK in the group stage.
This news is not too good, after all, the overall strength of LCK is stronger than that of LPL, but in fact, fundamentally speaking, if the goal is to compete for the championship, then in fact, the impact of early and late encounters is not very great.
The more important thing is to see whether the strength of the team itself is strong enough, if the team is strong enough and well prepared, in fact, there is not much difference in what kind of grouping. After all, no matter how you group it, you still have to see the real trick on the field in the end.
Of course, it can't be said that the grouping of the draw has no impact on the process of the game at all, after all, if the foreseen are all weak teams, then there is no doubt that you can hide and save a certain amount of strength and tactics, and wait until the final to show off and catch the opponent off guard.
You must know that there is always no shortage of coaching staff and players' whimsy in the S Series World Finals every year, and some specially formulated tactics can often produce great effects when playing against certain teams, which is also a specialization, different drugs can cure different diseases, otherwise what's the use of eating banlangen if you have gastritis?
If you meet a strong team at the beginning, if you want to qualify and continue the next games, you will undoubtedly have to expose some bottom-of-the-box tactics, which will have a certain impact on the quarterfinals and semi-finals and finals after that.
The draw was soon over and the final results were presented to all the eagerly awaited spectators, with the four groups of ABCD grouped as follows:
Group A: (LPL)BF, (LCK)FA, (LCSNA)AA, (Wildcard) LOP.
Group B: (LCSEU) GNR, (LMS) AK, (LCSNA) DOK, (Wild Card) GR.
Group C: (LCK)SS, (LCSEU)RC, (LPL)EBF, (wildcard) TGN.
Group D: (LMS)QAQ, (LCSNA)za, (LCK)SC, (LPL)MD.
Among them, the BF (Bloodflags) of Group A Coco Lee directly encountered the Hanbok LCK No. 2 seed team FA (FallenAngels, meaning Fallen Angel), which means that Coco Lee will directly encounter Hong Qimin (Raven), who is known as the world's No. 1 support player, and the AA team in the same group (Apocalypseadjudication Apocalypseadjudication Apocalypseadjudication) also has Ruin (Ruins), known as the violent mage.
And one of these three teams will definitely be eliminated, after all, only the top two professional teams in each group can continue the next games, and the loser can only be eliminated and leave this stage in a gloomy manner, as for the wild card team lop is a wild card team from Brazil, it is not surprising that the return ticket has basically been booked.
Group B is GNR (gunsn'roses), after the return of the former world-class mid-laner Alex (Alex), the strength of this team has been broken through and improved again, and it can be called the undisputed king of the European division, no one can beat it.
What's more worth mentioning is that the GNR team in this draw undoubtedly took a great advantage, none of the three teams in the same group as him are from LCK or LPL, and the AK team in the LMS division is not worried at all, after all, the quality of players in the entire Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao competition has not been good.
A long, long time ago, when LCK and LPL didn't pay attention to the competitive game of League of Legends, they were able to win the S2 championship under the leadership of some geniuses, and now except for the old team of QAQ, the rest of the teams are three or two big cats and kittens, and they can't make any big waves.
The DOK from the LCSNA also poses no threat to the GNR, after all, the battle between the LCSEU and the NA has been going on for many years, and the clash between the two major divisions in Europe and North America may be much more fierce than the clash between the LCK and the LPL.
In the end, although the GR of the Japanese team from the wild card LJL is like a strong little strong, to be honest, it is at best a stepping stone that is relatively difficult to step on, but even if it is difficult to step on, it will not escape the fate of becoming a stepping stone in the end.
