Chapter Eighty-Four: Surgery Today, Work Tomorrow
On the second floor of Helen's house, Belle stood in the doorway of a room with a locked door, and through the door, she could faintly hear what seemed to be music inside.
She pushed the door open a small crack, and immediately a pungent smell of alcohol hit her face.
The smell was so strong that Belle even felt spicy to her eyes.
She frowned, pinched her nose, opened the door a little wider, and looked carefully inside.
By the light of the hallway, she saw the brick-blocked windows, the broken roof lamps that had been removed, and the hundreds of wine bottles, neatly arranged against the wall according to their size and shape.
In the farthest corner from the door, a dirty mattress lay directly on the floor. Helen curled up on the mattress, her hair scattered, her eyes were withered, and her eyes were misty.
Next to the mattress, there was a plate of fried rice that had eaten only a small part, and the sticky rice grains on Helen's fingers and hairtips probably came from here.
She hadn't eaten much, but most of the wine in her hand had gone down. Her hands holding the bottle were trembling slightly due to the continued drunkenness, and her nightdress and mattress were covered in wine stains.
However, her hands and feet are neatly trimmed, the fried rice is also very rich, there is no shortage of vegetables and protein, and the wine bottles are full of good wine, and it can be seen that her family has been doing their best to take care of her.
The light source is isolated to avoid visual stimuli. The fact that a potentially sharp weapon such as a glass wine bottle is not cleaned up suggests that Helen at least has no tendency to self-harm. The body is very dirty, but the sense of touch has to arrange the wine bottle neatly, and it seems that he is still an obsessive-compulsive person.
And the strangest thing is that Helen was an alcoholic.
Long-term alcohol abuse can cause brain damage and mental illness. But people who are already crazy don't need to rely on alcohol to anesthetize themselves.
Belle thinks that Helen is probably not crazy, but is just afraid to see something that will stress her down.
Relying on his super eyesight and quick thinking ability, this meticulous observation and speculation is only a second or two.
And in this short period of time, Helen immediately covered her eyes and began to scream wildly.
Downstairs, Helen's parents, who had been paying attention to their daughter through a monitor equipped with infrared night vision function, heard their daughter screaming, and their hearts suddenly rose to their throats.
They knew that their daughter was afraid of light, so every time they went to bring her food, wash her face, cut her nails, etc., they would sneak in when she was unconscious, and do everything lightly by the dim light.
"Don't worry, don't come up."
Belle's voice came from the monitor, calm, firm, and unquestionable.
She walked quickly to Helen's side, squatted down, and gently put her right hand on Helen's forehead, and Helen, who had just gone crazy, immediately quieted down.
Belle said gently, "Don't be afraid, Helen, I'm here to help you." β
Under the influence of Belle's abilities, Helen tentatively opened her eyes.
Bewilderment, ecstasy.
Helen stared at Belle for a minute, her face instantly changing emotions, and she enthusiastically pounced on Belle and hugged her tightly.
After hugging for about five minutes, she let go of her hand, looked at it carefully for a long time like a child seeing a novel toy, and then directly touched Belle's whole body from head to toe.
She shouted in English as she touched it, "You don't have it!" You donβt have it! (You all know each other, right?) I won't translate)"
This operation, coupled with the lines that are very easy to misunderstand, it is difficult not to make people think crookedly.
Belle's face was almost green, she forcibly suppressed the urge to push Helen away, and said coldly: "How fresh, I have what you have, and I definitely don't have what you don't have!" β
"No, no, no, you really don't, what's going on?"
"Nothing? You can make it clear, hey! β
Bewildered, Belle tries to read Helen's thoughts, and even shares Helen's vision, but she can't see anything.
"Are you hallucinating?"
Belle pondered, if it was an illusion, it was produced in Helen's brain, and Belle shared that Helen's vision received electromagnetic signals naturally could not be seen.
"It's just a little hallucination, so it doesn't scare you like this, right?" Belle asked, confused.
"It's not a hallucination," said Helen earnestly, "it's real!" β
"Okay, okay, it's not a hallucination, can you tell me more about it?"
Hearing Belle say this, Helen seemed hesitant. She glanced at the camera in the corner of the roof, as if to say that she didn't want her parents to know about it.
Belle understood, turned around and went out, and explained a few words to Helen's parents.
She promised that she would be able to heal Helen, but that no one should record the healing process.
Helen's parents had just witnessed Belle's miracle of appeasing her with one hand, and with the strange tricks they had previously used to debunk their plans, they were convinced of Belle. After a little discussion, they agreed to Belle's proposal.
So Belle returned to Helen's room, floated lightly into the air, and removed the camera, reassuring Helen completely.
"That's okay, right?"
Seeing Belle actually flying, Helen's eyes widened.
"You, you're a superpower? Then you should be able to understand me. β
Helen pulled out a scalpel from the hole in the mattress, took a wine bottle, and demonstrated it as she explained.
"Here, here, and here," she said, gesturing her fingers a few times, "there are three lines." β
Looking at this posture, Belle's jaw dropped in surprise.
"! This special meow won't be ......"
She watched as Helen used her scalpel to follow the three lines she had just pointed out, and it didn't take much effort for the whole bottle to fall apart and break down completely.
The Eye of Death, the coolest ability in Belle's heart, is not one of them.
She had spent a lot of energy trying to develop this ability, but nothing had progressed.
Neither the Infinity Stones ability from Nemesis nor the inexplicable "water" ability can reproduce the Eye of Death.
After repeated attempts to no avail, she had to give up and accept the harsh reality that the Eye of Death was something she could not conceptually understand.
I never expected to see it here today.
Looking at Belle's shocked appearance, Helen looked a little disappointed and lonely, she lowered her head and whispered, "I thought that as a superpower, you could understand me, I'm sorry I scared you." β
"I'm really sorry, I wasn't scared, I was just too surprised. I always thought that this ability was just a myth, but I didn't expect it to be true. β
Helen asked, "Listen to you, do you know what is going on?" β
Belle nodded and said: "This is called the Demon Eye of Direct Death, according to the literal meaning, it is the eye that can see 'death', and the line you see is called the death line, as long as you use a sharp weapon to cross the death line, you can erase everything from the level of existence." β
"There is actually such a second-class name." Helen said self-deprecatingly, "I've actually done a lot of experiments, and I have some of my own understanding. However, I have always hoped to be able to cure all the diseases in this world, and this ability to see death is not the irony and mockery of this world for me? β
Helen took another sip of wine, and the tears flowed down her slender neck, along with the wine that leaked from her mouth.
She was a great woman with a strong mind.
She became famous at a young age, achieved remarkable results, and gained fame all over the world, even if she suddenly fell to the bottom when the future was infinitely bright, she did not lose hope.
The death of a colleague, the unfair trial, the anger of her compatriots, and the attacks of the keyboard warriors did not knock her down. As long as the truth remains, she will continue to seek and explore.
Even after being expelled from U-Gin, being rejected from all research institutions in South Korea, and having her passport confiscated, she was unable to leave South Korea in search of new opportunities, she still did not despair. At the very least, she still has the time and energy to record and preserve all her achievements.
Until fate played a huge joke on her, and what was presented to the eyes of the most life-revering scientist in the world was the end of everything.
This man, who is dedicated to saving lives, gains the ability to easily erase everything.
The black dead lines weave a huge web with no dead ends in Helen's world, and Helen herself is a poor butterfly who struggles all her life and finds that she is actually a spider weaving webs.
"Really?" Belle said in an exaggerated voice, as if she didn't see Helen in tears, "I don't think the world is sarcastic and mocking you, at least, don't I have a dead line?" β
When drunkenness hit, Helen burst into tears and laughed, and with the strength of the wine, she put her arms around Belle, and the two of them fell on the mattress together.
Deadpool's girlfriend, Vanessa, often moves against Belle after drinking too much. But Vanessa is a special industry practitioner, and her behavior is understandably debauched. I didn't expect Helen, a female scientist, to come to this set.
Helen stared at Belle's face closely, and Belle wanted to vomit as she breathed the strong smell of wine.
"Oh, that's what I'm talking about. Who knows, what kind of freak you are. Aren't you going to die? β
"Yes, if I stay here any longer, I'll be sick to death." Belle said expressionlessly.
Her eyes looked around, the rice in Helen's hair, the saliva on her mouth, and the stains on her nightdress, none of which escaped her eyes.
The last time the sheets were changed was a few days ago, she made up the sweat and wine stains on it, and couldn't help but sit up with a spirit.
"Let's get down to business," Belle said, standing up and looking at Helen condescendingly, "I've promised your parents that you'll be cured." β
"Don't get excited," Belle quickly added, for fear that Helen would misunderstand what she meant, "The Demon Eye of Straight Death, even if you blind your eyes, will not disappear, but I think you must have heard that life gives you lemons, and you can use it to make a glass of lemonade (when life gives you lemon, make lemonade, life often has unsatisfactory things, but from a different angle, change your mind, and put a little effort into a good thing). β
"The 'death' seen by the Demon Eye of Direct Death is a very vague concept, it is not death, it is the end and death that has been determined from the beginning of existence."
Helen asked, "At the beginning of existence?" What exists? β
"Okay, I wanted to say that everything exists, but I myself seem to be a counterexample, so I might as well say that most of them exist. Terrorists, murderers, alien invaders, evil robots, disease, trauma, aging, and even death itself, are all present. As long as you can understand, you can erase their existence. β
After listening to Belle's words, Helen's eyes brightened for the first time since she woke up in the hospital.
"If you want to deal with the first four, you can be a good Avenger with a good training, but," Belle said, stating the purpose of her coming to Helen, "If you want to deal with the last four examples I have given, I happen to open a hospital in New York, and the position of director is yours if you want." With your skills and the Eye of Death, I even thought about the hospital's advertisement, and I would have surgery today and go to work tomorrow. β
"I do," said Helen, "but my passport has been detained, and I can't leave the country at all." β
"You don't have to worry about it, if you want, go take a shower, change into clean clothes, and breathe in this damn room, it's disgusting in this house, cockroaches can't live, and I don't know how you're doing."
"Also, I told your parents that I am your friend, so don't talk about it."
Belle grumbled and left the room with a look of disgust, but her heart was already happy.
